So, let's assume that the Jets have no recourse aside from unloading Tone and his undeserved contract. Well, what should the Jets look for?

Low rent potential. I have had the opportunity to see Laurent Robinson bloom into a dependable and dynamic receiver with Dallas this season. I think the combination of his age combined with Tone's retardation, combined with Jerry Jones makes this a heavenly match.

So, addressing only the people that aren't dumb, and have also seen how good Laurent can be... Is this a straight up trade, given contacts and such, or does a team need to add picks to entice?

I really don't seem them letting him go. I think Rex is confident that he will be able to charm him into playing nice... and it will be a colossal fail. I also don't think any team is going to trade for him. He is football's new Randy Moss.

Not doable... we would have sooo much dead money in 2013. Plus isn't LR a free agent?

Not many people want Holmes on there team.

    He's a stoner douche.

You just made me jizz. Apparently a smart Cowboys fan I know got me going on a goose chase.

If he is a free agent, we must sign him.

Obviously the exact trade is impossible since Robinson is a UFA, but further Holmes is basically untradeable. What team is going to give up value for him when they have to take up his 9.75M cap hit in 2012, and $7.5M-12.5M guaranteed for 2013? He has zero trade value, maybe even negative trade value. We finessed his cap hit for 2011 to help us, but it makes his contract truly awful for 2012-2013.

My basic premise was the scenario where he must be jettisoned. Every tram has to make difficult decisions like that. Pitt gave him up for peanuts.

If the Jets feel the need to make a change, no player is untradable.

Yeah, but Pitt didn't owe him big money. We owe Holmes BIG money. Unless Tannenbaum figures some genius way to get out of some of it, it's hard to see Holmes not coming back next year. It would be a ton of dead money to eat, and a huge black mark on Tannenbaum/Ryan.

Pretty much Holmes would have to be one of those players that you often see in basketball or baseball that a team is trying to get rid of because of his shitty contract.

Like if the Magic wanted to trade Dwight Howard for Amare the Knicks would be forced to take Turkalu too because his contract is a steaming pile of shit that the Magic dont want.

Holmes is our Turkalu. Wed effectively have to tack him onto a deal and he would be a negative.

The only other way we can cleanly get rid of Holmes is if he is willing to restructure his deal as part of a trade. And If you think Holmes is willing to restructure and take less cash, you dont know nothing about Holmes

Teams bite that bullet all the time. And then declare a rebuilding year. And I don't think the organization relates Rex and Tanny as closely as we do.

I don't think there is a team in the NFL that would trade for Holmes despite his on feild talents. Contract, attitude, and NFL drug policy combine basicly make him unfit for a trade.

I think that Robinson is beyond the point of "low rent potential." He fulfilled a great deal of his potential last season, and this offseason he's gonna get paid.

You've got the right mindset in terms of a potential return for Holmes though. If we do move him, I'd want Tanny to be looking at high-ceiling guys like Andre Roberts, Arrelius Benn, or Mike Thomas.

We wouldn't eat the money, or at least very little of it, it goes with him, which is what I meant earlier by untradeable. Moving hm would be great for the Jets, but beyond idiotic for the team getting him. To get someone to eat his salary would likely require something insane like tone and a 3rd for a conditional 4/5, that is how bad his contract is, we would likely have to give up something else of value just to convince a team to take him. Especially since the spending floor isn't in play for another year.
Who would take a 28 year old WR who isn't an elite player, is supposedly a locker room cancer, and will be one of the highest paid WR in football next year?

I think there was an article about Tone's contract - if I recall correctly, if Jets release him before March, they are on the hook for less than 5 mil this year. It is after march that the dead money sky rockets beyond 12 mil.

Trade holmes to the rams for a draft pick, bring robinson and edwards in. Best scenario.
