This is disappointing, but as time wore on, the more disenchanted I became with Haley. The allegations of phone and office wiretapping he levied against the Chiefs are a little looney. The last thing we need is to bring in a circus act. We’re already too much of a circus. I like Sparano – for as many question marks as the guy may have, people do take him seriously. We need more guys like that.
I like the idea of Rex having a solid guy to lean on on the offensive side for a change. If Pettine stays also and a few personnel problems are solved I think the Sparano hiring will pay dividends next season. I'm really not sure about the passing coordinator idea, although if the guy does not report directly to Sparano I'm against it. The Jets need a clear chain of accountability next season. That's something they have been lacking for awhile.
Oh Well. So, who is coaching the passing game? Or is the plan basically either: 1. Peyton Manning; or 2. If Sanchez is here, we have no faith in him, so we will run the ball 99% of the time, like Broncos, so we dont need a coach who knows anything about passing the ball...

When I see things like your #2 option above it makes me think you have nothing serious to say so I shouldn't bother reading your posts.
Agree with the bolded part. Haley was too much more of what we have plenty of already. Not sure about the pro-Sparano part, though, and let's face it - the whole notion of the Jets attempting to get Haley was that they did not want to turn the passing game over to Sparano. Doing so seems like a rather underwhelming Plan B at this point, I am afraid.
That’s our speculation at this point. We as fans are speculating that Haley was brought in to be a passing game coordinator while Sparano ran the running game, like in Dallas. However, the fact is, we don’t know what role he was interviewed for. All we really know is that he visited the Jets and interviewed for something. We have no idea what role he was interviewed for, all we can do is guess based on previous experience and media reports. Honestly, considering that Haley wasn’t interested in the position, I’m guessing that the role he was offered was a lot smaller than we think. Which leaves me to believe we are going to leave the offense mostly up to Sparano.
Not sure why people are under the impression Sparano can't coordinate a balanced offense. Schottenheimer was a QB coach and had dominant run O in 08, 09 and 10. Considering this guy has already been a HC, it would be appropriate to assume he can handle OC duties. He's taking a lesser, more precise role.
Dang it! I was really hoping that they would coax Charlie Weis out of retirement to run the offense. I guess we're stuck with Shades now...
Well, you are right that we are speculating. Still it makes more sense to me that they were looking for some kind of shared role running the O with Sparano than a clearly subordinate role for Haley. After all Haley was an HC who got canned, just like Sparano. It's not obvious to me what the substantive difference between them was that would lead the Jets to simultaneously want Haley on the team but in a clearly subordinate role to Sparano.
I'm disappointed. :sad: The Jets having a paranoid coach would really take the media's attention off that dysfunctionality in the locker room and focus it on the coaching staff! :wink:
I am glad he's not coming here. You have to have one guy in charge of the offense not two. Too many cooks in the kitchen can be said for too many head coaches in the kitchen. It would be like Rex hiring Dick Lebeau to be defensive coordinator. Rex know how to run a defense he doesn't need a guy who may question him along the way.
How do we know Sparano knows how to run an offense by himself? He's hardly the Dick Lebeau or even Rex Ryan of offense.
I agree. I get the part about Sparano having the same "philosophy" as Ryan. But what is his real background with calling plays, closer development of players, that sort of thing? I am not saying I am sure he will not work out. I just wonder why we should all just assume he knows how to do this job.
With Haley. He was the "run game coordinator". Were there too many "cooks in the kitchen" then? Is Sparano the Rex Ryan of offense? Nope. Like BB, I'm not saying it WON'T work out, just that there's good reason to be skeptical.
