Dear Don but big Stein did it by spending 400 million a year on payroll. That is allowed in a noncompetitive exhibitions such as baseball and the WWE but not in the NFL which has this thing called a salary cap. The Jets and, in fact ALL the other NFL teams are not allowed to just outspend everyone else by three times, Yankee style
Thankfully we don't have George ruining our franchisem like he did w/ the Yankees for most of his years. It's not a coincidence that the Yanks started winning again in the 90s while the team was built when he was suspended from baseball.
Actually when he started to outspend teams by an insane amount is when they stopped winning championships.
No, he didn't. He spent more than anybody else, that's true but it was how he handled the entire organization top to bottom that made winners. He didn't even buy the Yankees until 10 years after the Jets won their only championship and they have won 7 since.
10 years? He bought them in either 72 or 73, that's not 10 years after the Jets won the Super Bowl. Quite simply, the Yankees stopped winning when they kept trading prospects for big stars. The free agent signings weren't as damaging as the loss of a farm system. Once the Yankees limited those trades and built up their farm system, they started to win again.
actually, Don, it was the commissioner kicking his felon butt out of baseball for two seasons that allowed Stick Michael to rebuild the annual mess that Crazy George had made of things with his impulsive attempts to throw money around like it was water
Wrong. The Yankees had, and still have, the luxury of buying their way out of every mistake and outspending the league average salary by a factor of four. The Jets don't have that luxury. Now, go back to your baseball forum.
Very true. As I stated in an earlier post, once they kept it to only free agent signings and didn't trade their prospects away, they started to win again.
Over the last decade or so that is true but they started spenind out of control in the 00s, the latest dynasty was built while George was suspended and couldn't ruin the team. Gene Michael and Buck Showalter get most of the credit, if George was never suspended Jeter and Rivera wouldn't be Yankees.
hopefully how they responded to our run the last two years. The Giants have a SB winning formula although their ground game isnt what it was when they beat the patriots the improvements Eli has made since than makes them better. not to mention a more dangerous WR corps. dear rex ryan, stop beating off to CB's and find a pass rush.
As usual, you are all wrong...First, the Yankees didn't win again until 3 years after Steinbrenner came back and they signed the likes of Cone and Clemens and Boggs and Strawberry and Gooden and Wells and probably a dozen others.. Yes they spent money(like any other could have done) but they won because they kept changing the organization until they got the right people in place who could use the talent they had. I guarentee if he owned the Jets they would have won multiple championships before now..Hess and Johnson are both willing to allow people like Tannenbaum and Schottenheimer and Hacket and Mangini and..and...and... stay in place for years as long as the tickets are selling..they could care less if they ever win.. And as far as payroll..the Yankees average payroll over '96-2000 when they won 4 titles they averaged about 60 million a year, their attendance sucked and they didn't have YES. Others out spent them and even more could have. They won because they had an owner that was determined to win. http://www.baseball-fever.com/showthread.php?48598-Yankees-Payroll
They didn't sign Cone they traded for him, they didn't get Clemens until 1999 after they had won 2 titles. They didn't make any stupid moves to get rid of good prospects for aging vets, they didnt' overspend in FA- they didn't sign many FAs in those days. Most came through good trades by the GM, the one part you got right was their payroll was in line w/ the rest of the league before George went crazy in the early 00s and ruined the dynasty. If you are a man you are one that doesn't know football either so why not try to talk about baseball?
This whole JEts vs Giants thing is IDIOTIC! If you're on that band wagon, you're an idiot. Props to the Giants I say, good for them. Now we have to react to the Giants success, give me a break, that's the most retarded thing ever. We are the Jets they are the Giants, we share the same stadium, big whoop. Why does it have to be more then that? And anyone out there that hates the Giants, I ask you this, how can you hate the team that kept the Patriots from achieving perfection?! DO YOU REALIZE THAT YOU WOULD NEVER EVER EVER EVER EVER have been able to take that away from those dirty bastard Patriots?! EVER!! No matter what the Jets did the Patriots would have ALWAYS had perfection. Thanks to the Giants, the do not!! So.. GO GIANTS!!! KICK SOME A$$!!! Represent the city since we sucked to much to do it ourselves.
I know one thing the Jets should do, get a freaking DE that can pass rush. We haven't had one decent pass rushing DE since Abraham left.
