Ha, yeah - and that's just the one everyone talks about and remembers because it killed their season. There were plenty before that - and last year as well. I remember being frustrated last year that they couldn't get off the field on 3rd down. And then throw in that abysmal, horrible, frustrating, maddening drive against Miami that was 12 1/2 minutes, 21 plays and they gave up at LEAST 4 3rd and 10 and longer - on ONE DRIVE!!!!! That was the worst - the Jets were still winning at that point and that ridiculous drive was the nail in the coffin. It woke Miami up, it woke the fans up, it was just the final cherry on the cake of a bad defensive season. I don't care what stats say. They may not lie, but they certainly disguise the truth. And anyone can manipulate them without a frame of reference.
The same can be said for the 20 other teams that the Jets defense is better than statistically. The stats speak for themselves. You really think we were the only few teams who had these type of snafus happen occasionally? Look at the Steelers and Broncos game. Even the best defenses dont always play up to par every game. This is by no means a great defense or ever better than they were the last 2 years but they are definitely good. Harris, Cromartie, Pouha, and Revis are probably top 10 in their respective positions. If the offense didnt shit the bed most of the year, we would all be singing a different tune and would be in the playoffs this year.
I dunno. A lot of factors are conspiring to make it seem like a possibility. - Injury affecting Manning's status as unquestioned starter for 2012 and the next couple years beyond. - Monstrous bonus coming due. - Colts getting number one pick, basically winning the Luck lottery. - Uncertainty with the front office and coaching staff; Irsay, Manning's good friend, getting fired. Team giving all indications they're going into full rebuilding mode. - Jets limp to a tremendously disappointing finish, with Sanchez's erratic play being a part of that. Serious questions arise about Sanchez's ability to lead the team. - Giants and Pats go to conference championship games. Motivation for the Jets to make a splashy, off-season move? - Eli does a radio interview, expressing a surprising enthusiasm about the possibility of his brother playing for the Jets. It still seems unlikely...but laughable? Outlandish? Totally far fetched? I don't think so. Not with expectations set so high for the Jets.
One or two plays? Did you watch the games this year or just study the Sporting News when it came to your door step each week?
Dear Peyton Manning, Congratulations on your new-found freedom from employment! And congratulations on the successful recovery of your neck surgery! Our team doctors confirmed with the Colts' medical personnel that the reason you, a first ballot Hall Of Fame quarterback, were released so hastily, was because they value your emotional well-being and do not want to insult you by making you play the role of Lame Duck on their team. This is where the New York Jets come in, my friend. Feast your eyes on the opportunity of a lifetime. The Jets have recently hired a new offensive coordinator, Tony Sparano, who is even more obsessed with a run-heavy offense than our head coach, Rex Ryan. You know Rex, right? He coaches the last defense to face you (and also the last one to beat you, and hit you) before you had to have a doctor fuse your spinal column. Great guys, you'll love them! Here, we will use your obsessive football acumen to create the ultimate offensive attack! We know that you like to work out with your receivers during your off time to get you timing down. This may seem like a problem with our current receiving corps. Kerley, this guy is a workaholic and will never be a problem. With Holmes and Burress, well these guys have both caught Super Bowl-winning touchdowns, but you may have to get a bit creative with them. We suggest that you find a good practice field, and build a stage out of marijuana bricks for a bunch of loose-legged nude dancing women to parade across. Do this, and these two jokesters will NEVER be late for a practice session, we can assure you! Also, try to massage their egos a bit, as we don't want any 'anonymous' quotes making their way to the ever-friendly New York media. Enough about that, though, please now turn your attention to every quarterback's best friend, the offensive line! Never mind the fact that neither of our starting tackles in 2011 could stop an elderly woman with emphysema, things will immediately improve now that our blocking scheme is completely gutted and changed to suit a new playbook. Do you even need a playbook? You are something of a football cyborg, correct? Who needs playbooks and offensive lines when you have a laser rocket arm? No pass rusher can get to the legendary PEYTON MANNING before the ball is released. Hey, you know what? Forget all of the football team stuff and concentrate and the REAL GOAL! Endorsements! Heck, what do you think about Wrangler Jeans? Okay, what about GQ magazine? Hmm, nevermind about that one. Well, how would you like to host SNL for a guaranteed 6 episodes next season! We know ADAM SANDLER! Surely he still has some connections. We can get this done, Peyton! Just let me know what you think, my friend. I myself believe this is a match made in heaven. Mike Tannenbaum p.s. Also, since Rex is such an amazing coach, we will expect the usual discount that players take when signing a contract with the Jets. Hope you understand.
I don't see how he could possibly turn down that offer. I mean, after all, the Jets are a "win now" kind of team.
Yeah, I mean, why would he care whether he was paralyzed for the remainder of his life even though by normal society's standards, he's a very young guy. I mean, he'll have all that endorsement money to keep him company!
Plus, he and Eli could share an apartment together. Maybe even bunk beds, just like the old days. Who would pass up an offer to relive their youth like that? He'll be a Jet next year, and he'll play for next to nothing. You mark my words.
Of course he will be. I'm saying I don't think the Jets can keep him healthy, and that he's smart enough to realize that.
I'm pitching an idea for a reality show to the networks...Eli, Peyton and Rex Ryan all share an apartment in Midtown Manhattan...we call it "Three and a Half Men".
Colts just canned Caldwell. Not sure if that impacts anything regarding Manning. Not familiar with the relationship they had.
If Manning is here, Sanchez is not. It's as simple as that. And, you forget that the Jets have draft picks, etc.. This team will be complete by Training Camp. As for Manning's health. You better believe that before they sign him they would have team doctors look at him, as well as the top specialists in the country. That should go without saying. As for restructuring, I have never said anyone needs to be restructured. If it happens, it happens. If it means in 3 years we are in salary cap hell, so beit. But I would rather have 2/3 legit shots to win the SB than 0. I think most Jet fans would sign up for that.
The point was that it is possible to fit him into the cap even with a deal that averages 12-15 million over 4 years. I am just talking about how Peyton Manning can be a Jet in 2012. It is in fact very realistic from just a salary cap perspective. What it does in 2014 is not the topic. The topic is Peyton Manning in 2012. And again, if Manning wins a championship in 2012 and 2013, do you think any Jet fan will give a shit about what happens in 2014? Honestly.. As for gambles, yes, I do think it is worth a gamble. Getting Manning is the only chance this team has to win the SB in the next 2/3 years. The only chance. And with that being the case, the Jets have to take it..
I'm really fucking getting sick of this shit. Manning would be just Favre all fucking over again. It's not like he had a fractured leg or torn ACL. This is his neck. One more injury to it and he's done. This could completely cripple the franchise. It will be MUCH worse than the fallout after Favre. This is really unfair to Sanchez, as well.
Im referring to the one or two things that you and other people point out. How good was the offense again this year? Funny that you fail to even respond to that.
