I just got done watching some tape on him. He projected to be the first OLB taken. Would you be upset if we moved up a couple spots to get him or would you rather wait for Upshaw (going on the idea that we are taking a pass rusher in the first)??? We did well with being able to grab Wilkerson last year but we still need some younger LBs and I hope we can get it done in the draft opposed to FA. Tell me whats your take boys.
Melvin Ingram will not be the 1st OLB taken in this draft, might not even be the 4th OLB taken. At this point hes a 2nd round prospect. We need to add depth to this team, Unless we are trading up to get Blackmon, who at that point would have to be falling, we arent going to trade up.
I agree he shouldn't be the first OLB taken, period. I do think he cracks the first round by april. I think he will shoot up draft boards after the combine, if he has a good showing at the combine and erases some of those "speed" concerns, I think he becomes a very appealing pick to some teams.
I see him as a first round guy, but like others over him. We should have bigger talents available to us.
I think right now Upshaw, Mercilus, Perry, and maybe even Hightower could be up their as the first few OLBs taken. Ingrams stock is moving up, and I do like him but I dont think he will or should be taken day 1. Just my instinct.
I actually think he will be the best available after Upshaw. I like his skill set, I think he just has some minor technique issues that need cleaned up. I think he will be a pretty good player for some team.
He put up very good numbres this year and is very versatile. If he has a good combine someone is going to take a chance on him in the late first. At least thats my thought on it. but I think you can safely put a late first/early 2nd grade on him.
Its hard to say as of now, the combine will determine a lot. Dont get me wrong, I do like him, I love that he can drop back into coverage and line up at 3 positions on the field. But , Ill make a bold prediction and say he will be drafted as a 4-3 DE.
Ill be completely honest. While im not a fan of trading up and personally believe we need to trade down. However if we trade up and land a homerun you really cant complain. Would you really complain if we pretty much traded our entire draft and walked away with just 2 VERY good players ? An impact OLB + safety/OL and I think every jet fan would be incredibly happy. Its all about making our picks count, FA is fine for filling in the other blanks
Still be thin at WR and RT. And RB for those that dont believe in Greene . And TE for those that dont believe in Keller. Added Greene and Keller because im not sold on either of them also.
NO. I went to Clemson and saw Ingram play a few times. He is a great DE with a high motor. I just dont know if he has the athletic ability to cover in space. I would trade down for him but definitely not up.
I went to South Carolina and watch all their games. He has a high motor but always plays with his hand on the sand. I've never seen him playing standing or where his job was to make tackles in space. He projects best as a strong-side end in a 4-3, like what Ellis played when we were a 4-3 team across from Abraham. He also benefited a lot from the fact that he wasn't the most intimidating pass rusher on the line, Clowney was. Coming into the season, he graded out no higher than a 5th rd pick I would say.
1) no we shouldn't move up 2) Ingram is more explosive than the other OLB, despite Upshaw being more polished 3) Ingram plays faster than the other OLB bc he has better instincts, and overall is a better football player 4) Clowney was NOT the best player as. an 18 year old rookie, Ingram was and that's why he is rated the number one OLB for this draft 5) Watch the games of these kids mixed up like on separate devices. Ingram is the best football player, in the way that Ed Reed is the best (in it her words, he just has a knack for the game, is around the ball, versatile, makes p,ays, explosive, regardless of stats and measurables) 6) if Ingram is there at 16 with his ability to play anywhere in the front 7, I have no doubt Rex takes him. 7) Watch the games please he has his hand down, up, is lined up all over the place. This is not some 4-3 only DE
In cnnsi they were comparing Upshaw to dare I say his name Vernon Gholston http://www.thejetsblog.com/2012/01/15/prospect-watch-deolb-courtney-upshaw/
I dont see it at all. Upshaw isnt the freakish athlete that Gholston, he plays every snap with passion and isnt a one trick pony. Upshaw isnt a passrusher, he’s an all around linebacker. He has good passrush skills but also can play the run just as well. Just to compare a possible Jets draft pick at OLB to Gholston isnt the most intelligent of things.
People do have him as the #1 OLB on the board. http://www.nfl.com/draft/story/0900...oins-luck-atop-first-2012-nfl-draft-big-board We need a pass rusher who can also play in coverage.. he has great football instincts and that is a trait not always attained by pass rushers.. Upshaw would be a good fit too.. I don't know which one would be better for us.. If we don't go OLB I would love to grab Michael Floyd if he is there..he is a game changer and will flourish in NFL..i have watched all of his game..he is awesome.. either way it should be a sexy pick..I would rather grab a RT in FA --experience is a must
I disagree if the Jets want to get one of the top three tackles. There are other guys we could trade up for, but if we got a franchise right tackle I wouldnt complain
This. Couldn't agree more. Ingram is the kind of versatile, instinctual player that the Jets could use just about anywhere. I see people knock his potential like he's some mediocre talent, this kid is a monster. What he has cannot be taught, athleticism and instincts. The kid is a natural at LB, I have no clue how someone who saw him play would say he kept his hand down.
