Rex seems to prefer taking method #1, but still hasn't gotten there yet. If this team can get good safeties and a real pass rush, then, just then, they'd have a chance to be that.
Good defensive analysis, but the overriding question for me still remains. could those teams have won the superbowl if Sanchez was the QB playing like he did this year? I truly doubt it. You need both elements, a strong top notch defense, a savvy top tier QB that does not give the game away.
People forget that Peyton often had a good running game. No team, aside from NE, wins without running the ball. The pieces are there for a good running game. You just need a QB that scares teams with his ability to throw to make it dangerous.
This is why we were successful the last two years in the playoffs. We had a good running game, a solid defense, and an offense that could go down the field. Remember the good old days when receivers had room to run after the catch and we threw down the field... This doesnt involve the quote above but, the elite QB argument is misleading because Big Ben, Brady, Eli in their first super bowls did not play elite in the Super Bowl or on the way there. Looking back you can say elite QB's win Super Bowls, but in the moment none of them were considered elite or even great.

What this shows is that a team needs balance. The Giants statistically had a terrible running game and if anything the only thing that got them in the playoffs to begin with was their passing game. But they were coached to play with balance, and it's paying off. The Packers had a terrible defense, and so with their WR's forgetting how to catch they couldn't keep up. Same with the Saints, they thought they could outscore anyone allowing a more balanced team to keep up with them. How did the defense and run first Broncos do against an all pass team again? Of the 4 teams left, all except the Ravens had far better passing games than the Jets. And the Ravens were superior both defensively and running. So no, there's no magic formula. Good teams win championships, not a style of play.
yes I know that. But I think us being jets fan do forget Sanchez as only been in NFL for 3 years. I still think IF we can get Peyton we do it. No way u pass on a QB like him.
Aaron Rogers did not even see the field until year 4 and still took him two more years to become what he is. If AR started in year one you guys would have wanted to dumb him by year three. Be reasonable and have some common sense. I know that is crazy but to give a guy three years and expect him to be great and be great with the weapons he has is beyond ignorant.

I'm pretty sure the complaints wouldn't be as bad about Sanchez if we didn't hear all these expectations about him and the team. If the jets were being sold as a rebuilding team (rams, jags etc) then Sanchez growing pains would be a little more tolerable.
