I know some of you may think of this as crazy, but if the Giants win it all, that basically makes them the team of NY. As Jet fans, we are right on the cusp of greatness and taking the city back. We can't let them take control of NY from us at this stage in the game. So yes, as much as it pains me to say it, I will root for New England over the Giants if it comes to that. Anyone else agree? (Not that I think it will come to that as I predict Balt-SF in the Super Bowl, but it's interesting to think about.)
In spite of the fact the Yankees and the Knicks are the teams of NY the Mets and the Nets have a fan base. The Giants have been the team of NY for a long time. Doesn't change a thing one way or another. There's always next year...
Honestly who fucking cares if they are 'the team of NY'. Were not in the same division Are their fans assholes? Yes Will they be talked about more and more? yes Will that effect the Jets play in the AFC? no. It doesn't matter who the team of NY is. Jets just ahve to go out and play every week.
The teams of NY are the teams that win- The Mets owned the City in the 80s while the Yanks were an afterthought, since the Yanks started winning again in the 90s it's been a Yankee town. The Giants have owned in when they won, the Rangers, the Knicks getting to the Finals, the Jets the last 2 years. if you win you own the City
I'm rooting for the Harbaughs at this point but I would love to see the Pats lose twice in the Superbowl.
I can't stand the Giants, but if it was them vs. NE, I'd root for them once again. No way I can root for NE to win another Super Bowl.
I think it depends on where you live and who you deal with in your every day life. Giants fans are insufferable since I can remember, which is a long time, and have been worse since we played them and gave them the fucking game on Christmas Eve. Can't get a fucking break since then. I had little hope for Dallas or Atlanta on the road but you'd think Green Bay at Lambeau could help us out, no? Here's the thing. In a pure football sense the Pats are our division rivals and the Giants aren't in our conference, but they are in our market and our stadium, so if you're local that counts for something too. Plus, in my opinion the Patriots are worthy of winning it, as much as I hate them, they are 28-6 the past two seasons, the Giants are no better than we are and I hate them too. There is no perfect season at stake this time for the Pats, and we saw the Giants win last time. This time I seriously hope the Pats not only beat them, I hope Brady shows up like Steve Young vs the Chargers and puts it away in the first five minutes. Why am I saying this now and not focusing on the Ravens and/or the 49ers winning? Because they aren't going to win. Deep down you know this too, so you might as well figure out what you're going to do for Giants-Pats. I probably won't even watch, but I do hope New England not only beats them but embarrasses them.
The JETS should just worry about putting a winning product on the field and stop all the big brother/little brother bullshit. The GIANTS deserve to be where they are. They stepped up when they had to and I hold no animosity towards them. I'd love to see them win it all and stick it up the fat ass of our baffoon of a HC.
That started to dawn on me yesterday as well, I expected the Pats to crush the Broncos but midway through the 3rd quarter it dawned on me that this is happening all over again. A mediocre Giants team gets hot at the right time and goes to the SB. Your right, at least the Pats are worthy of being there. The way they play is exciting and the way Brady and Gronkowski play catch is ridiculous. I think however the VaGiants could win that game.
We're not the Jets, we're fans who have to live with and around Giants fans every day. I'm glad Rex hates the Giants, it's the first time in history we've had a coach who gets it and is in tune with the fans. It's not his fault we gave that game away, kick Rex while he's down if you want to, as a Jet fan I'm glad we have him.
I agree with Miano. Another point, I just don't think the 49ers will get another performance out of Vernon Davis like they did against the Saints -- 180 yds and 2 scores is a monster day. Davis won the game for SF (arguably Alex Smith too) but I doubt he can do that against the Giants and then the Patriots. The Giants have the firepower to go back and forth with the Patriots. I'm not even worried about defense because the 49ers showed that, even an elite defense, can't stop the insane offenses out there.
To make the weekend an unmitigated disaster, the 49ers won that game. There's no way the Giants would have won at New Orleans, they almost did win at SF and they will this time. We watched the end of that last game from our TGG tailgate, in fact. I guess it could have been worse if the Texans were going into Foxboro instead of the Ravens but it isn't going to matter.
Well one thing that gives me hope is that the Pats have had difficulties in the playoffs with teams who have very good defenses. Their last three losses in the playoffs have come to the Jets 2010-11, Ravens 2009-10, and Giants 2007-08.
