Key players not returning: Ladainian Tomlinson RB Bart Scott ILB Bryan Thomas OLB Plaxico Burress WR Matthew Mulligan TE FA: Woody and Tanny will go out aggressive this year in the FA. I can see a year similar to the year we got Pace and Faneca. We literally made no new acquisitions in the FA last year, Woody and Tanny won't make this mistake again. We have the money (thanks to last offseason) to do some big things. Reggie Nelson S Exactly what we need at the Safety position. Heavy hitter and excellent coverage skills. After last nights game its evident that receiving TE will only cause the Jets woes for years to come unless we acquire some of Nelsons athleticism. He will cost a decent amount but well worth it. Michael Bush RB Another pricey signing, but could definitely emerge as a legit #1 RB. Having Bush and Greene would do wonders for this offense for years and could possibly give the Jets leverage to trade Greene and get a decent pick. I wanted Bush coming out of Louisville and have liked him ever since. He is going to cost a good amount as well. Nelson and Bush will be our two big signings. Levi Brown RT Easily an upgrade over Hunter. Brown still faces problems with inconsistency but is overall a decent player. He is still very young and has yet to come close to his peak. Many posters want us to go OL very early in this draft, drafting a RT and also a replacement for Slauson/Moore. One thing that is being over looked, is the fact you simply cannot have superstars at every single position on the line, It's simply not affordable. Slauson is solid and very serviceable and hasn't done anything to be replaced. Brown is just as solid, if not better than Slauson. Chad Henne QB No explanation needed. He is still very young and can help get the organization get the best out of Sanchez by constant competition. I don't think Henne's days as a starter are numbered. He could possibly be trade bait later on down the road. DRAFT: 1) Nick Perry USC OLB Perry is the fastest project 3-4 OLB in the draft. He has an excellent variety of pass rushing moves and is solid in coverage. An overall good player and an even better pash rusher. USC has a good reputation regarding LBs and Perry should do nothing but prove it. He is my #3 overall 3-4 OLB in the Draft, But I see Mercilus going to possibly the Panthers and, or definitely before #16 and see Upshaw going to the Bills and or, definitely before #16. Perry would be a good choice based on our remaining needs. 2) Dwight Jones UNC WR Jones was an very solid WR on the college level and will be the same in the NFL. He locates the ball perfectly and goes up and gets it at the highest point. He isn't afraid to take some big hits in it means coming down with the ball. Excellent hands and even better route running. If the ball is intended for him, you better believe he is going to end up with it. Coming from the same program as Hakeem Nicks and could quite possibly be just as good. 3) Nigel Bradham FSU LB All though Bradham played OLB in college he translates to a ILB in the NFL. The kid put up top numbers at FSU throughout his entire career, despite the fact that FSU was near the bottom in all defensive categories. The lone bright spot on that team for the last 3 years (aside from Ponder). He's extremely tough and can lay the wood. He's a physical dude and fits this defense perfectly. Insane speed and can cover sideline to sideline. He has hawked down some of the fastest RBs in the nation. 4) Tramain Thomas Arkansas S Thomas provides even more much needed depth at the safety position. Aside for Lowery when was the last time this team drafted a safety? Although Nelson helps out tremendously, Leonhard could quite possibly be on his way out due repeated injury if it were to happen again. Leonhard is also undersized and can only do so much. Thomas is extremely athletic and almost a CB rather than a S. He is a bit of a liability in the run game but that can be coached. He is excellent in coverage and that is what this defense needs. Depth Chart: QB: Sanchez RB: Greene/Bush FB: Conner WR: Holmes, Jones, Kerley TE: Keller, Cumberland LT: D'Brick LG: Slauson C: Mangold RG: Moore RT: Brown DE: Wilkerson NT: Pouha DT: DeVito OLB: Perry WLB: Bradham MLB: Harris OLB: Pace/Maybin CB: Revis, Cromartie, Wilson S: Nelson, Leonhard, Thomas Thanks in advance for the feedback guys! Took a fairly realistic approach and something I can see happening and would be all for happening. Hope y'all like it.
I love your first two picks, but have soem big problems with Bradham in this defense. Bart Scott plays the TED lineback most often in our D. He's the guy responsible for blowign up blockers so the Mike and Safety can make the plays. If Bradham is replacing Scott he's way to small for the role, the same problem Vilma had in our efense. I really see him as an 43 OLB in the NFL. We may be over drafting Tramain Thomas here and I don't see him as a guy Rex would fall in love with. Michael Bush is too much like Greene to be his compliment. If he comes in on the Cheap I would not hate it, but I have a hard time seeing it happen. Brown may be a slight upgrade over hunter, but Most cards fans hate him and are glad he's leaving. That would be enough to worry the hell out of me. Henne is a possibility. I have a feeling he would like to go somewhere that he's going to be given a fair shke to start though. I could see a team like Cleveland or The Skins going after him if they lose out on RG3. I know he lacks the mobility that Shanahan likes, but he's better than the scrubs down there ATM. I can see your thought precess behind this all and agree with trying to adress the problems we have, jsut not loving some of the players your plugging in.
First off thank you for the feedback. I'm not sure if you are aware of this or not but Bradham is only two pounds lighter than Scott. By the time preseason roles around he could be 250 (currently 240, Scott is 242). Although Bradham may project to the 4-3 better, which I agree with. He is hardly undersize. Vilma is 230, which by all means is way to small for a ILB in the 3-4. Thomas is def a reach at the 4th round ATM but come draft time I think the 4th is where he will land. Like I said Brown does have consistence issues but he is still young and the Cards and their fans may have been too quick to judge. He isn't a bad player. My other option is Bell from the Bills. I honestly do not want a rookie starting at RT next year. We need experience and we need it now. Brown is still very young in his career and is decent but not great. Similar to Woodys status upon arrival a few years back.
For some reason I was thinking Bradham was between 230 and 235. If he is getting in the 240 + range its a possibility. I still think his skill set best fits a 43 OLB though, but his speed would help in the front 7. If we get a guy like Martin in the fist we could absolutly start a rookie at RT next year. Cordy Glenn may also be an option in our new blocking scheme. as for vet RT's, part of the problem is there is really not much out there. I expect to see a lot less 4 and 5 wide looks and more max protect, TE's and RB's chipping before going out as the safety valve to compensate for whomever is our RT next season. Giving the RT help and Mark less reads to make will improve this offense. I have my doubts we add a FA RB. If we do I guess it could be a guy like Bush, but if we are going to traget a power back I'd rather have Tolbert. Slaton and Kevin Smith could be good all purpose options. Jackie Battle is a good dark horse canidate. He has size and runs hard, but the Chiefs may try to keep him to compliment McCluster and Charlse.
Honestly I haven't heard much about Nick Perry, but I feel as though we could take a much better player than him in this draft, this is also my opinion, because I love Mercilus and Upshaw and haven't heard of Perry from Mel Kiper or any of the "draft guru's", I wanna hear more about this kid, also what other WR's do you project to be available in the second as well as the first
Blackmon is a top 5 pick. Floyd, Jefferys are definite 1st rounders, most likely top 20. Kendall Wright will most likely be a 1st rounder as well, but could slip to early 2nd. Same is said for Sanu. By our pick in the 2nd round, most likely Toon, Jones and Randle will be available. I like Jones the best out of the three.
LOVE the off-season. Reggie Nelson and Michael Bush would be XTC for me. I like the draft pick of perry but need to read up on him more. Not a fan of Dwight Jones, saw him play this year and was not impressed at all. I would go Muhammed Sanu or Nick Toon in rd 2. If not try and hope Ruben Randle drops to rd 3.
I don't get the logic behind not bringing back Scott - he's got a fully guaranteed contract, cutting him saves $0.
Love the first pick, but I have a feeling Perry will be long gone before we pick. He might go top 10 if he has an amazing combine. Lane Kiffin was saying that he's faster than some of their running backs at USC. That kind of speed at his size = someone will reach. Von Miller being an example from last year (although it was the right move to pick him). I don't think we need Bush, especially at his price. I'd rather draft someone in the 4th round or lower. There's some speedsters this year. Would love to get one. I also feel we could do better than Levi Brown at RT. Other than that, I'm on board.
Like most of it and it's obviously best case scenario and not reasonable with our lack of cap space. If I were going to nit pick, I'm not a big Nelson fan and the pats would constantly target him in coverage. Also I think we need to add a TE and a Kicker.
I like Thomas thinks hes a good safty and that is a giant need for us With los dos faggots (Gronk and Hernandez) he can put some major hits down to. Perry in the 1st is a little scary because i see him more of an early 2nd than a mid 1st but love Jones and Bradham
I like the Nelson signing, but pass on a used RB. They just don't have the shelf life. Can't say I know enough about Perry at this point to say yeah or nay over the other two. In the second, I think I'd prefer a two way TE like Allen from Clemson or Charles from UGA. A bunch of mocks have us taking James (RB Ore) in the second.
I dont get the Bush love, why have Bush and Greene as our backs when they both are similar. We need thunder and lightning, a power guy and a speedy dual threat guy. Bush/McKnight, Greene/McKnight, Richardson/McKnight are better tandems than Greene/Bush........also I'm not to fond of Dwight Jones I wanna see how his hands are at the combine, he mainly catches balls with his body, any below average corner would slap those balls out every time he does that. I want Floyd or Sanu if we draft a WR in the 1st round if not I'd wait til the 4th for Stephen Hill or Tommy Streeeter
After the monster contract Holmes got last year, do we have the cap room for another premium paid WR? I'm all for trading Holmes for a used pair of cleats and then drafting a top WR, but that's different.
