As we all know coaches will often return to their former teams to bring players in that know their schemes and philosophy. Just having a look at the Phins free agents - are there any here we are likely to see on the Jets (players and reviews taken from walt football - listed in order of quality): Paul Soliai, NT, Dolphins. Age: 28. At 6-4, 355 pounds, Paul Soliai is a monstrous, run-stuffing nose tackle. He made $12.3 million with the franchise tag this season. Kendall Langford, DE/DT, Dolphins. Age: 26. Kendall Langford is a really good, young five-tech who excels in both stopping the run and putting pressure on the quarterback. He's a key piece of Miami's 3-4 stop unit who will have to be retained. Vernon Carey, G, Dolphins. Age: 31. There were some questions about Vernon Carey entering the 2011 campaign, but he held up pretty well at his new position. He gave up three sacks and was whistled for only one penalty all year. Phillip Merling, DE/DT, Dolphins. Age: 27. Phillip Merling could barely do anything this year coming off an Achilles injury. Perhaps he can bounce back and finally live up to his potential next year. Chad Henne, QB, Dolphins. Age: 27. Chad Henne has some solid physical tools, but it appears as if he'll never have the mental aspect of football down. Still, I'd like to see what he could do with some really good coaching. Will Allen, CB, Dolphins. Age: 34. Steve Slaton, RB, Dolphins. Age: 26. Marvin Mitchell, ILB, Dolphins. Age: 27. Lex Hilliard (RFA), FB, Dolphins. Age: 28. Ikaika Alama-Francis, DE/OLB, Dolphins. Age: 27. Lydon Murtha (RFA), OT, Dolphins. Age: 26. J.P. Losman, QB, Dolphins. Age: 31. Of all of these I could see Vernon Carey being a possibility (we couldnt afford Soliai or Langofrd I dont think).
not jumping through hoops about anybody on the Phins roster other than Wake pretty much a pile of JAGS that wouldn't improve the Jets all that much IMO
The answer is: God, I hope not. First of all they're Fins. Fins give me a bad taste in my mouth because I'm a Jet fan. Secondly, they're not all that talented and I don't want to go through the Bart Scott/Jim Leonhard shuffle again. getting older players who are good but not great and about to decline.
I know what you mean, and yet coaches seem to do it time and again Rex brought in quite a few ex-ravens in order to smooth the transition to his new defence and so I wouldnt be suprised to see a couple of Phins come across on the O
Slauson is not a bad player but man I'd love to upgrade that LG spot. Faneca for all his faults in pass pro was an A+ run blocker and we haven't ripped a huge run since that SD game a couple years ago
I can see us signing Henne as I think he will be cheap and good competition as No2 qb. Also i would like Merling, think he can be prouctive if over his injury. The phins have some decent players but imo that franchise is mired in its own self pity
Easily better than Slauson, also Carey might be able to kick outside and play some right tackle for us.
Slauson is cheap thats all he has going, cannot pull out on screens nor can he consistently beat his man one on one..we should invest whatever wecan on the Guard position in FA and draft a RT. This franchise will see a huge turnover in personnel this year
Long runs are more of a function of the running back than the o-line. It's the first handful of yards that the o-line is usually responsible for.
I agree but we hardly created a great deal of running lanes..I am not a fan of greene, he reminds me of Jordan ...he is not a starting rb imo..I would love a mcfadden type back who can kick it putside
Hey, I didn't say I trust the Jets enough to not bring in ex-Phins. I just don't see why they would do it.
Funny, he was a pretty good OC in the one year he called plays. Wouldn't necessarily call that a 'joke.'
I know we were only 6-10 last year but I think you guys are underestimating our talent. I could easily argue we have a better offensive line, running backs, wide recievers, quarterback, defensive line, linebackers, safties, punter, and kicker.
God I hope not. It was hard enough having Jason Taylor on the Jets and now Sparano. I have despised Sparano in the past. I'm rooting for him, but it's gonna be hard to come around on him. Besides, outside of Cameron Wake, Kendall Langford, Jake Long, Reggie Bush, Anthony Fasano, and possibly Vernon Carey, I'm not sure there are any other players on the Dolphins I'd even want.
Carey is intriguing. I didn't realize he got moved to Guard. Always felt he was an above average powerful right tackle. He likely isn't an upgrade over Slauson or Moore. If he doesn't have the feet to play RT anymore and wants starter money he likely isn't an option. However, if he still has the feet for RT OR is willing to be a versatile veteran back-up...I think he's a solid possibility.
