Cumberlands injury was harsh and they said it could possibly be career threatening. The fact is if we lose Keller we need to bring in both a blocking specialist TE, and a dual threat TE. If we went into the season with pretty much two below average young udfa te's + whoever we get in Kellers stand, id be pretty worried. Id like to at least see a late round TE + a free agent or a mid round + late round draft TE. To play real ground and pound football were gonna need at least 2 good blocking TEs, and both Keller + Cumberland suck balls at blocking. And I doubt Baker can be that good considering he sat behind Mulligan on the depth chart for a reason. So If Kellers gone at least 2 TEs are coming aboard, guarantee it.
Realistically I'd go for John Carlson and Greg Olsen and use a healthy Cumberland as the receiving threat. Keller could get us at least a 2nd or maybe a 3rd and 5th :rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl:
I don't think any of those guys are much for run blockers. These guys are going to want someone who can run block and make the occasional reception, with fairly sure hands. I wouldn't be surprised if we took Michael Williams from Alabama in the 5th or 6th round if he declares.
This thread really doesn't make much sense to me. Keller isn't going anywhere. We have been a very strong running team twice the last three years. Obviously this past season was the exception. Keller was here for both of those seasons where we were running it down everyone's throats. You can't expect a complete overhaul on offense like the OP seems to be suggesting. They are overhauling the coaches, those coaches are being brought in to make our current roster improved. They are not here to make our team worse. You do not take away one of the few bright spots on our offense, especially when Keller hasn't hindered out top notch run game the first two seasons under Rex. That would be a mistake, there has been enough of those made last year.
I will see your 'occasional' and raise you 'often.' I hate Belichick, but he has been writing this blueprint for years. And it has come to fruition. True offensive production can be found between the hashes. We need a guy like Witten or Gronkowski to pair with Keller, or Keller is useless.
Just watched some tape on him, I like him and he comes from a great program and I think he'll be perfect for us with our new/old offensive identity
This is an asinine thread. Regardless of Dustin Kellers final numbers in any year he has played for the Jets he has not been a constant in the offense. He comes up with some great third down conversion , so don't get me wrong. He disappears in multiple games and is not known for his blocking abilities. He is a beast physically , but is not scaring anyone or any defensive coordinator. It may the scheme, so if he remains maybe there will be a bump in his production. He will not be in hot demand , so I don't think there will be many takers if he is dangled during the draft.

While I agree he likely has not much trade value, that doesn't really answer what the Jets should do about TE. Someone else made the point about the severity of Cumberland's injury. I frankly had not realized that. Is there in fact little prospect he comes back?

I think the point TJB was trying to make was that Keller probably doesn't fit very well into the style of offense that Sparano and hopefully Haley want to run. They want a more traditional TE that is at worst a solid run blocker. I don't think he'd have big trade value either, but if our OC doesn't see him as much more than a situational player I can see why it might make sense to try and move him for a later round pick that could maybe be used to get that traditional TE.

You don't need the stat - you have my eyes. He dropped a lot of passes, whether it was the most or not. Half of them seemed to be 3-4 yard passes that he didn't even know were coming.
