Johnny addressed safety in FA with Michael Griffin who would add the needed speed/coverage/ballhawkish type player. IMO, that should be our #1 move this offseason.

As for the draft, its not a great year for safeties. Just to draft a safety in the 1st is kinda pointless when there value is late 2nd. Mark Barron is the top rated safety, and just because he’s the top rated he’ll be overdrafted by a team that needs a safety (hope its not us). His value is not near our 1st round pick, and would still be a reach in the 2nd.

FA is the way to go in order to fix the hole at safety.

Hahaha, to be honest I didnt even notice that, hey maybe a lot of good prospects come from Maroon and White Schools?

I dont go to Rutgers but have many friends who do. Ive been to a few of their games this season, their game Vs Ohio and Vs USF. Sanu really impressed me in both outings. Prior to going to those games I thought of him as a great player but he really stepped up his game this season.

Safety shouldnt be drafted 3rd round and up in this draft unless Barrons value drops big time, hed be worth a shot to me at the middle of the draft.

Safety should be addressed in FA not this draft, next year could be different though with guys like McDonald and Armstrong coming out. Both would be solid picks for the second round.

Solid mock, cant complain about the first two picks.

As far as Broyles goes, he is not a deep threat. Yeah he can run through coverage but I dont see him as a guy whose speed is going to challenge people. Talent wise Broyles in the third makes sense but I dont know how much that injury will effect his positioning.

Allen is a good player but we dont need another run first safety. Though I do like his size which would be good.

I dont have many complaints of basically drafting a bunch of offensive lineman in the late rounds

I see Broyles as a big time over the middle threat, he also has made some big time plays deep, yeah his speed wont beat you, especially because of that ACL injury, but his fantastic catching down field is something we just dont have on this team. Countless times in college he has made big time yardage catches, he has always impressed me big time with that big play ability.

Allen can cover some bit, I believe he can improve in the NFL. I drafted him also because of his great playing lining up at nickel. We will need that if we let Strick go.

Thanks for the comments man, much appreciated.

Thanks for explaining each pick and what you see. I like both wide receivers have the chance to be down the field threats which is what we were lacking this year. I also like the FA signings. If Tanny followed this as a guide I would be happy and excited for next season. Now it was mentioned we may end up with some compensation picks, do you have any type of prediction or speculation what we would aim for in the low rounds? Or what do you think is a good position (by position I mean rb, ol, etc) to hit on a successful player in the lower rounds?

I don't get all this love for Mercilus. None of the big draftnicks have him going even near the top half of round one, and I can see why. IMO he doesn't diagnose the play the way an elite player should. He's never played standup, never been in coverage, and doesn't seem to do much other than get 1 on 1 sacks. I know he put up stats and has a cool name, but picking this kid in a year where you cannot miss on your first rounder is a terrible idea.

Ingram, Upshaw, Martin, Reiff, DeCastro, Richardson....if one of those guys is there you take him ahead of mercilus.

Just to be clear I LOVE Broyles as a prospect, I love his competitiveness and I love that he has the best hands in this class without a doubt. Even if we didnt retain Plax having a group of Tone, Sanu, Broyles, and Kerley would be outstanding.

To be honest, this is my favorite mock so far.

This draft could solidfy our receivers and make us scary as long as Sanchize progresses.

While Broyles is a somewhat flashy pick, I see no reason why not to taken him in them third unless a decent tackle is ther.

And Mercilus is awesome. His last name is awesome, his rushing capability is awesome, and I love him already. Ill do them honors in saying Sign this beast!

Well it all depends on who we go with the first 3 or 4 rounds but if its the way I hope it goes we should target Olineman, OLBs, and WRs all day, then as many BPAs as we can get, whichever position it may be, value picks sometimes turn into gold. We need to add depth on the Oline, WR core, and another young OLB.

Like I said, it all depends on who we go with in the first three rounds but those positions Id like to stock up on the most.

Ingram? No. Reiff? Maybe. The rest I can agree with.

About your criticism about Mercilus standing up and never being in a 3-4 D, Aldon Smith says hi. But seriously , many great OLBs have played in 4-3s in college, players can adjust, his pure pass rushing ability is what this team needs and makes our secondary that much better. If Upshaw is there, I personally would take him over Mercilus but there is no doubting the dimension he would be able to give the Jets.

Agreed Broyles is an awesome player. I think if my draft were the case wed still need to bring in Plax for 1 more year for the Redzone. Broyles is a great redzone threat but Plax and Mark did very well this year in that department and if we are bringing in a lot of new guys I still want to keep that consistency.

He has an injury problem but we will see how he can preform once he gets into the combine and individual workouts, if he can show his game isnt too much off from what it was hes a lock 3rd rounder. Maybe even gets drafted in the back end of the 2nd.

    JTJ,
I would take this draft and run to the bank...not only did we get a passrusher but 2 really good wideouts....bring back Maybin and Plax short term and shit this team is back....

I just joined the Mercilus bandwagon recently. I really want this kid. I feel that he is very similar to JPP, and he could be a big time pass rusher for years to come. I also like the 7th round pick. Him or Jake Stonburner would be great TE's to get towards the end of the draft. I don't love the idea of Sanu and Broyles, but overall its a very good mock draft.

I would also like the TE from Stanford Coby Fleener or something like that, the kid is huge

While I agree that there is no S worth taking in the first round save Barron, I'd take Markelle Martin in a NY minute in the 2nd round. He's definitely worth it.

I don't know too much about the players you choose, aside from the first three selections. I feel Sanu will go late 1st, very early 2nd and will be long gone by our 2nd round pick. Overall I like it. My only gripe would be, I don't think there is any way we take two players of the same position in back to back rounds. It literally never happens and I think this case would be no different.

Good job man! Looking forward to the next one

Completely agreed, this whole mock and outlook could change though by combine time, I appreciate the comments.
