BTW, I don't think they would have signed Sparano unless they absolutely plan to get another TE and a first class RB..it certainly wouldn't make any sense to get him without them just so he could fail too.
Our RB's have never shown they can't handle the load. Given the fact that 85% of our running plays either a. took 5 seconds to develop off of all sorts of weird motion.. b. were straight up the middle. c. were called at horrifically inopportune times. I think were gonna be ok. Just need to patch the OL, TE's a little and were on our way!
McKnight has breakaway quality moves, shown in his ability on returns. The whole idea is to run him into space..which entails using the edges. How many times did Schotty run McKnight up the gut? I honestly havent seen our guards and tackles pull on sweeps in 2 years. WTF happened to all of that?
RBs are so easy to find, Year after year we see RBs come out of nowhere. I dont want to trade up for anyone. If some potential talent falls, then yea pick him up. RBs arent that hard to find.
That's pretty much where I saw the change in running scheme occur as well. You can't run ground and pound if it's going up the damn middle or on a delayed counter 90% of the time. Just won't work when they are also loading the box because you also dont take shots down field. IMO, the run suffered from the lack of pass threats, not the other way around, which you can pin on the overall scheme. That's I think our RB tandem can actually excel given the right system.
Assuming LT does not return, I'd would love to make a play at Jonathan Stewart. He is very good in the pass protection and at catching the ball out of the backfield.
Go with those three and get some veteran off the scrap heap for depth. Use resources to fix the OL and solidify the defense. RB should be the last position the team looks to plug.
Powell is still the unknown----if THEY think he cannot do it then someone should indeed be brought in
This would make me happier than Schotty leaving... well maybe. I think Forte has more value, but I would even throw in a mid round draft pick or some role player. This would probably be the best possible move we could make this offseason. He would make this offense go, and strike fear in defenses.
Yes. And A LOT stronger. He benches 475. Thats fucking insane. He is the epitome of ground and pound. He can catch and block too so would be an immediate upgrade all around.
I doubt anyone is going to trade for Holmes contract. If they do I can't imagine we'd get much more than a conditional late pick.
Perfect answer although Moore was good pulling to the weakside also. The real issue is the Jets have no heart and soul on offense. Schotty's schemes were always so technocratic and required perfect play by the players. I thought the dead giveaway that his stuff was no longer working for the Jets was when the penalties and collisions began to mount as the season progressed. The system was just way too complicated for people to play at peak efficiency in.
So how about Chicago franchises him, then with his permission trades him to the Jets for Santonio Holmes and a back. Then the Jets sign Forte to the contract they would have to float to Greene otherwise to keep him in NY and the Bears get their big deal where they want it at WR and not at RB. Holmes would be a much better fit in Chicago with Cutler and Forte would be a dream for the kind of system the Jets want to run, absorbing 250+ carries a year and catching the ball 50+ times as well.
