Wow, this is getting interesting. I understand why "unnamed" sources are important and why journalists use them, still not a fan of them though because we can never know the motive behind them.
Does anyone else think some of the "personal statistic" complaining stuff over the course of the season could be coming from Plaxico? I mean he was out of the league sitting in a cell for a couple of years, now was on a 1 year deal, hoping to parlay it into a bigger one for the next season(s), as well as not really having personal investment in the team. If anyone needed better stats to get paid, it would be him..... more conspiracy theories :breakdance:
Keep thinking that. I guarantee you that the next time Revis thinks he has leverage to go get more money he's going to do it regardless of the circumstances. He might even do it with very little leverage just to see if he can. I'm assuming your 3 Super Bowl scenario is that the Jets bomb out and go 2-14 and get to take the next great QB with the #1 pick next season? The oldest QB to win a Super Bowl was John Elway at 38. All it took to get him there was having an MVP in the backfield next to him. Seriously, Peyton Manning isn't going to drive the Jets to a Super Bowl next year. He'll be lucky to run a successful offense at all given the limitations that will be in place, including age, injuries and playing outdoors in the northeast in the late fall and early winter. The other flaw in your scenario is that no QB has ever won 3 Super Bowls in a row. Only a few have won 3 Super Bowls at all.
The wisdom of the crowd is largely overrated just cause those ppl think Sanchez sux doesn't mean he actually does. insanity is common in crowds
Thats how I feel, at least McElroy had the fucking balls to not be anonymous even though he ran to Bama to say it.
My view is if anyone worth a crap did indeed throw Sanchez under the bus, would they be happy to be traded to the Colts for Manning?
Agreed, Holmes said he wanted to be remembered as a Hall of Famer. Need stats for that. Plax actually had a more productive season than people expected. He was also very gracious towards Rex and Tanny for even visiting him, so I think it wasn't him.
More than likely, but Holmie already received his fat signing bonus to go with his Cristal stats or not...... but yes, his track record, and public display this season speaks poorly of him.
I think we can all agree that Sanchez needs to improve in many aspects of the game but c'mon, if players are going to comment they are obviously not directly involved with him. That entire offensive unit knows what happened this year. Bad OL play in the run and pass game, WR's fighting with teammates, RB's not contributing like they should. TE's occasionally dropping passes thrown directly into their face, guys jumping offsides, guys committing dumb penalties on 1st down etc. The blame goes all the way around. Add the ridiculously convoluted offensive system they were forced to run, and the assinine situational play calling and you have a perfect storm of crap. Given the clusterfuck outlined above, I don't think many QB's in this league would perform well. Don't get me wrong..Sanchez needs to get better and cut the GQ crap off the field and start concentrating on football. But they still finished 8-8..it wasn't 4-12..so let's move on here and realize this kid could be really good under a no BS system and some healthy competition at QB.
It is actually common to use unnamed sources if they are unwilling to be named and you as a journalist know who they are, meaning that they are in a position to know the truth of what they are saying, and you have some means of verifying what they are saying. The latter may include that some other unnamed source backs up the statement. This is an accepted journalistic practice. We also have some backup for the story coming from Woody, who in effect agreed to identify himself. I understand how people can be pissed at people for not wanting to be quoted and then talking off the record to a journalist - not the most admirable behavior, to be sure. But in this particular instance that is a side issue. If the issue is whether Manish had adequate sources for his story, it sounds more likely than not that he did have adequate sources, and that at least some significant part of the story is true.
It's a few anonymous players. It could be anyone on defense...probably Cromarty, Scott, even Revis. If it's anyone on O it's Holmes, and the rest are probably special teams guys.
I seem to recall you as one who in assessing relative blame for the poor O was, to put it mildly, less inclined than some to blame Sanchez. This story obviously does not fit with your prior assessment. In fairness to you I concede that the story in itself hardly disputes that the other problems you identified with the O were not real factors. But I also think you have to accept that even if only half of the story is true, the relative blame that belongs to Sanchez is larger than you acknowledged just a couple of weeks ago.
I have said this, but people downplay the Playboy factor. Some dudes can handle the NY playa lifestyle...and some get overwhelmed to the point where all those late night escapades with beautiful women start to drain your focus away from football. If there's anyone on the team that needs to be extra focused it's your QB. Time spent plowing ass could be spent studying playbooks and film.
