True. And frankly, what a difference a couple of wins makes. If we were 10-6 no one would be hearing about this.
I don't see how this surprises anyone quite honestly. This locker room is one predicated on acting like an asshole quite frankly, and I don't think that is necessarily a bad thing in the nfl when you are playing a physical emotional game like this. But when you look at the psyche and attitude of this team, the attitude that got us to back to back AFC championship games, it is an attitude that Sanchez really doesn't have. You have to admit he does seem a little out of place on this team does he not? So I don't see it as a surprise that many Jets players don't like him, and feel like he is being anointed leader, captain, Sanchize, rather than earning it.
Which is why after the Eagles game I leaned towards hoping we didn't make the playoffs. If we have this many issues I don't want this shit papered over with another squeak into the playoffs. Air out the shit, burn down what needs to be burned, have a good draft, and come back with a real foundation for contention.
2012 season does not start anytime soon. From now till then many things will change and many coaches and players will be held accountable for their actions. I have faith in Rex and the system he has put in place to make sure nothing like this happens again. So far a few changes have been made and i expect many more. We'll be fine once the season comes around
Rex needs to get his team under control or he's going to be out of here in a Big Apple minute. Obviously the locker room is divided at this point and people are spending a lot of time pointing fingers. Teams don't win that way. They never have and they never will. If this story is the coming off-season in a microcosm the Jets will go 6-10 next year and the back-biting will be legendary. The other important thing here: Manish Mehta welcome to the world of being a jaded Jet's beat writer. You've just joined the ranks of Steve Serby, Mark Cannizaro, Rich Cimini and a host of other illustrious writers who fell into the trap of feeding the NY media beat with negative stuff about the Jets. It may feel good to have written this story right now but I guarantee you that the trajectory you're on is going to make you feel like total shit before you're done. Probably just a bit before the same beast spits you out and you wind up doing something for the money instead of the fun for the first time in your life.
How can you condemn a writer for doing a good job of reporting the honest reality of how players feel about a guy that any knowledgeable, objective observer can see in incapable of doing the job? Would you rather he spin it the way Rex does? If Manish Mehta is to feel anything, it should be proud of himself for being honest and not trying to pander to the team he covers. How can he feel bad about himself for writing what he knows is true? That's having integrity, which many journalists lack. If he was to suck up to the team and always paint them in a positive light they don't deserve, not only would I want to punch him in the face, but he'd be acting like their bitch. How can that feel good? Thank goodness we're finally hearing some truth and not that crap Rex and Mike keep feeding us. You have a whole bunch of great football players on the Jets whose championship asporations are being held back by an incapable player and an organization who continues to publicly support that player and hand him the reins he hasn't earned. I'd be pissed off too.
This ^ I'd be pissed too. I just want to see this team win one superbowl before I die, and if we have the chance to do it with Peyton in the twilight of his career, then go for it. Becuase I just can never see Mark Sanchez playing at a high enough level to win the Lombardi trophy, and i think players in the locker room see it too.
I think if this story has any significant truth to it, than it just proves that Rex has indeed LOST this team. As a result, he should either resign, or be fired. The teams attitude and performance starts at the top. It is a direct reflection of the HC. In my opinion, Rex will be fired, or will resign by next friday.
Apparantly some people have not figured out that I like to add dramatic effect to some of the things I say. But the premise is solid. Keller catches the ball only when he is 100% wide open. Other than that, he is useless. And his stats are padded because Sanchez loves him and throws to him more than he should (and even then, his stats are not that great for a number 1 option). He cant block, he cant catch when covered, and in general, he is just not very good. Many Jet fans over-rate every player that we have. And the 2 most glaring ones are Sanchez and Keller, both of who are not very good, and yet when reading this board you would think they are Aaron Rodgers and Gronk...
Nothing would surprise me at this point. The Jets obviously melted down last year under the weight of the expectations and talent and coaching breakdowns. That said, I highly doubt that Tony Sparano was brought in by Mike Tannenbaum and Woody Johnson. This has Rex hire all over it and you don't resign or get fired right after you've gotten your man. If this was a Mike Tannenbaum or Woody Johnson hire and Rex wasn't the guy who made the call then this team has real long-term issues just over the horizon.
This may be the case. It may also be that Sanchez did in fact work his ass off during his first two years. However maybe after playing in two AFCCGs he (very wrongly) started to think that he's better than he really is and slacked off. Wouldn't be the first time that a young player gets an early taste of success, thinks that he doesn't need to work as hard anymore, and starts becoming complacent. IMO Sanchez being so hyped up, cover of GQ, commercials, etc. makes it that much more likely that he would be susceptible to this sort of thing. Just an opinion.
I think Rex has most definitely lost this team, which is sad because I had enormously high hopes for the Rex Ryan era and really liked the pick for HC. Holmes will not work out, he simply needs to go. The guy is a cancer and clearly at the center of all this. My only hope is this is all too familiar with the Giants and Coughlin during their epic collapse. Coughlin and Eli both rebounded to win a SB and contend for one again this year.
Mangold is tweeting this is all bs, says it's not true. Maybe Holmes has issues with Sanchez but the way a scrub like Wayne Hunter stood up to Holmes in the huddle makes me think the opposite of what is being said. I also think it was pretty clear that LT had his back as well. You never saw any quit in that guy. Now on the defensive side of the ball maybe there are guys who have issues with him but other then Holmes I didn't see anybody on offense quit. I saw a team that just wasn't any good.
normally I would agree with you, but under the circumstances(assuming this stuff is mostly true), It is better for the team to gain new leadership. A fresh start is the teams best chance for success IMO. Now to be fair to Rex, I do not hear anything coming from the defense at this point.(nothing publicly anyway) and that is primarily what Rex controls, maybe Schitty is the problem and had no control over his offense... just my 2 cents.
Woody Johnson likes Rex, but Woody is not happy with all of this dirty laundry drama since the Miami game. He will not continue to back Rex unless this team looks like it is "under control" by Rex in 2012. Rex gets 2012 to get the trajectory of the franchise back in the right direction or he will be let go. And perhaps having 2 former HC (Sparano and Haley) on the staff gives the JETS options in this regard if the ship continues to "stink" during the 2012 season. I like Rex and hope that he gets the ship turned back around but I don't give him more than the 2012 season to do so, nor do I think will Woody Johnson.
