Here's the guys I'm watching tonight that may be able to help the Jet's. Upshaw, Barron and Richardson for Alabama and watch Sam Montgomery for LSU

upshaw made some players - he can cover some ground but plays a bit stiff....however i am fully on board with him at #16. i did not watch enough of him this year to suggest which LB position he would play.

how about that punter for LSU. some team is going to take him on day 2.

I think that punter is a red shirt freshman so he's not an option . I did like Upshaw his lower body is huge though . I hope he is able to stay in shape and stay at his current weight . He made a bunch of plays and was always around the ball at 16 he looks like a solid pick.

Oh and that safety on Bama Mark Barron is supposed to be first round material I didn't notice much . Granted they couldn't throw at all and probably had something to do with him . Maybe its a good thing he didn't have a great game , maybe a chance he can slip into the second round where we might have a shot.

Barron is a second rounder if not third rounder. He should be where we will pick but we shpuldnt pick him. No rookie will solve our problems at safety.

He is older than the typical freshman. He is 20 years old now as a Freshman but I don't know what the rules are for entering the draft. I think you have to be at least 3 years removed from high school but do not quote me.

Not slow, Quick. What you saw last night was a "mush rush" designed to keep Jefferson in the pocket.

Upshaw looked pretty good. Hightower had a beastly game.

Still thinking Upshaw or Mercilus with our first pick.

He's not an edge rusher. That sack anyone could have sacked the QB, he was unblocked.

I think his size makes Upshaw look slower, but he's not slow.

Upshaw has average speed, but is very strong and smart and knows how to take proper angles.

Don't overlook Hightower, if Bart Scott's future is up in the air, and it could be, Hightower would be the perfect replacemant.

I love Hightower's size and his commitment to football is incredible.

Upshaw looked good, not great, but he heald his edge when required to and showed good power. He showed all the tools, was great in running down the play. he did look a little stiff at times but is mroe than a viable option for Buffalo at 10 let alone us. A OLB that can rush the passer, hold the edge, with experince dropping into coverage, its Rex's wet dream.

Richardson showed his explosive cuts and acceleration and power that will make him a top ten pick. He hits the hole with authority and is patient when wait for his blocks. The kid is a complete back with a Higher top end than ingrham and should not suffer the same draft day fall.

Barron was what he is, a good saftey. Not great from him. Good range, good in the box, good in coverage but nothing that stands out.

I really wanted to get a better look at Maze this game as a later round option. He's versatile and a team leader but did not put up huge numbres. Would love to add a player and person like him to our receiving core.

Runber Randle and the rest of the LSU offense .... my god did Bama dominate this game. No one got to show a thing. Randle has size and some spped outside, but this game was about worthless for him to showcase anything.

Mingo is someone to kep an eye on next season on the LSU D. Very quick off the snap and showed good counter moves when rushing the passer. Would need to add at least 15 or so pounds to play in our D though. I liked his over all athleticism.

Would anybody be opposed to drafting Courtney Upshaw and maybe trading up for Whitney Mercilus early in the second (if he is there) I think it would make our linebacking core set for a good while and drastically improve our pass rush, but some people might not like two outside llinebackers. Also I am wondering if we want the best pass rusher (Mercilus) or the best overall linebacker (Upshaw)

Mercilus is a good shot to go at our 16 pick let alone the second round. I would love to have both, would not mind having eitehr, and would feel lucky to land one of the. Your senario is a bit wishful thinking, but I understand why. :)

As for what we need, Upshaws ability to play all three downs and experince in the 34 is huge. He's dropped back in coverage, he can set the edge well from a two point stance, he aware of his job and could most likely start from day one. Mercilus will need time to learn. He may be more of a force in the pass rushing game, but would provoide less versatility to begin with. I'm really not goon list one over the other for sure and either one would be a god send to this defense.

If we keep Pace and Thomas to give us time to groom Mercilus it may be t he perfect situation. If we are letting go of BT in the offseason, Upshaw has the advantage IMO.
