why dont we go after this guy - he was pretty good and the raiders threw away 2 1st rounders for palmer so they are obviously in for keeps i would love to have campbell on our roster -
As a back up? Sure. But I think he will go to a QB hungry team who doesnt get their QB in the draft like Miami, Seattle, or maybe even go back to Washington.
The only thing Jason Campbell has never done is win. That's why he has moved from organization to organization during his career and it's why he's available now at the age of 30. There's no reason on earth to think that the Jets will get anything more out of Campbell than the other teams that hired him got: a mediocre risk averse QB whose teams lose because their offenses never ignite while he is on the field.
But as a backup he isnt a bad option, if this is what this thread is intending. Better than Orton, Mcnabb, or anyone else the Jets could get as a backup QB. As a starter though for this team? Hell no.
Campbell is going to go somewhere where hes got a legit shot at starting. These guys know if they come to NY theyre a backup, unless their name is Peyton
Campbell is good enough to start in the NFL, but on the off chance he'd come to the Jets as a cheap backup, I'd take him in a minute.
A lot of his risk aversion comes from the fact that he's had a hilarious amount of offensive coordinators throughout his career. He's not a superstar by any stretch of the imagination, but he'd be a perfect fit as our backup. Good enough to put pressure on Sanchez to preform, and more than capable of stepping in if Sanchez goes down. I assume that he'll wind up on a team looking for a starter though.
I don't know if he's looked at as starter material at this point. He's past primetime (26 to 29) and he has been about as flat a QB as you can be. Maybe he winds up as the next Rich Gannon somewhere in a few years.
Mentioned Campbell a few times....he is a quality No.2 QB who would be fine as a Jet. He may look for other jobs but I think the opportunity in NY could be big for him given the outsider's look at how Sanchez's job is in jeopardy and all.
Campbell is going to go somewhere and compete to start, so it won't be here. His numbers were good enough at the start of 2011 for teams to be interested. Campbell is an average QB, who has had the misfortune of being in some bad situations. Much like Sanchez, he's not a top 10 QB at this point, but he's probably better than at least 10-12 of the quarterbacks that were penciled in as starters at the beginning of 2011. I don't think he would be a big upgrade to Sanchez.
I think the Raiders will try to keep Campbell. The team did much better with him than they did with Carson Palmer. They were a playoff team before he got hurt.
Don't see a reason to get him. If he leaves Oakland he is gonna want to go somewhere where he can start right away or has a good chance at starting and that is not the case for the Jets. He is an average QB, I'd take Sanchez over him.
It would be awesome to put Brees in Shotty's system just to watch him struggle to break 3750 yards for the season.
Let's be fair here. First off, Campbell has only played for 2 teams in his career. And the Redskins and Raiders of those years were not exactly NFL powerhouses. Campbell is a decent NFL QB who has a nice vertical game. No way will he end up on the Jets, I just hope he stays out of Miami.
I want Matt Flynn now and Sanchez released! Jason Campbell won't come here as a backup either but he is better then Sanchez. Look at Oakland with Campbell and look at them after he got injured.
