I thin most NFL fans that were alive in the 80's and 90's Knew who Ellard was and jsut how good. Its jsut a matter of how old of a fan you are lol.
Don't know if serious o.0 That said I think he's done a pretty good job with Turner and Kerley. Edwards got over his dropsies. I don't think Holmes or Burress pay much attention to what their positional coache tells them... he should be kept.
Ellard also is one of the "BEST" recievers coaches out there. He is credited with the development of Issac Bruce and Tory holt. Anyone who blindly says "FIRE HIM" should tell me who we could get that is better?
Are you kidding me? Of all people, Ellard? He is one of the few on the offensive staff that did a good job with the receivers. (Edwards stopped dropping easy catches, etc etc.)
The development of Kerley as the year progressed should not be over looked. This kid became Mark's second security blanket to Keller, often making the play on third down. Several of those plays he runs to the sticks before settling down for the catch. Ability in the open felid, game awareness, good hands, this kid has the tools to be perfect in the slot and did a very good job as a late round rookie for us. Turner is just too slow to be much of an NFL receiver. He looks like plax running routes, but is in his prime years of physical health, not a 34 YO on the decline.
I agree in both cases. What I meant with Turner was that with "limited talent" he helped the guy become at least usable in some offensive packages. Apparently the guy is very raw, we'll see if he'll be retained as a red zone threat next year.
Yes, I knew that. Anyone who didn't really shouldn't be posting on any football board, let alone a Jets board. I actually think he's a good receivers coach, but unfortunately he's been sprayed with Shottenheimers foul stench. So, he has to go.
He did a good job helping an NFL receiver learn how to catch the ball in that case. I would hope that any receiver coach could help with that, but maybe that's asking too much? Kerley had a much better rookie season than probably anyone anticipated either, so he should get credit for that. He was closer to the Santonio situation than any other coach could have been. How did that never bubble up to Rex? He also failed to develop Brad Smith (among others) as a receiver. If a new OC comes in and decides they want Ellard, fine, they know better than me, but I'd rather they get to pick a fresh face familiar with there system.

Brad Smith is a good athlete. He was never goign to be a good receiver. As a runner he's a long strider who just didn't have the body controll to make quick decisive cuts. The experiment with him as a receiver is goign the same way in Buffalo. Not well at all. The Situation with Tone was bubbling up all year leading back to the Moore press battle. Sadly he was right then, our poor Oline play killed our offense this year. On the down side he needed to keep that shit in house. No coach can controll a player 100% and I do not knock Ellard for Holmes acting like a bitch. Kerley's play has been very good. Turner is a so-so talent that we got the most out of. Its his work with the younger talented guys so far that keeps him around in my book. The older set in thier way guys who've been paid are going t oact out if they want to.
Get off your high horse. Just because you were around long enough to know guys like this doesn't make you any more entitled to post on football boards than younger fans who may have actually PLAYED football
I don't know. I've seen too many drops this year to think Ellard's all that good. Also, double moves and tactics to get separation seemed very lacking. I wouldn't mind a new WR coach to babysit Santonio if we have to keep him.

Considering every other place Braylon's been, a season in which he did catch the ball consistently is clearly a sign of an excellent job by his coach. For the Santonio thing, there's no way Rex didn't know about it. Can't blame Ellard for Rex dodging something that was probably obvious. And if Rex was purposely avoiding certain things, that's his own fault. Lastly for Brad Smith, forcing him to spend a great majority of his time focusing on returning AND wildcat offense likely had a big impact on his work with the receivers. Wearing too many hats means some might not fit as well as others.
So I guess we should take a poll and find out who here knew Ellard's all-time ranking in receiving yards and anyone who didn't can be perma-banned. Gimme a break.
If you don't know who Henry Ellard is you really should do your homework and not advertise your lack of football knowledge.
