Unfortunately, you're right, but that's the worst thing they could do. Just making a big splash at one position doesn't solve all the other problems. The team would be much better off if the sign a number of players to address some of the glaring needs. This will not only make the team better, but enable them to go with BPA in the draft rather than having to focus solely on needs and perhaps reach or be tempted to trade up, thus creating more problems.

This thread is totally meaningless because no matter what people may be on the team currently and what their salaries are supposed to be it will change and it will change a lot.

I dont see that the cap situation this year really matters - every big signing is back loaded and if the jets have to give someone a big back loaded contract with guarantees in order for them to take a modest salary in 2012 then that is what they will do if its someone they really want.

Exactly. We cant afford a huge signing like Mario Williams or eve Cliff Avril.

The biggest signing I’m looking for is a safety- Michael Griffin or Goldson.

Add in some other “lesser” FA’s like Robert Meachem, Braylon Edwards, John Carlson and some depth players and I think we are looking good.

But of course the whole offseason is determined on Schotty’s situation.

Michael Griffin wont exactly cost us as much as we all thought in the beginning of the year, fans and supposedly his team have really soured on him. He has played up and down the past few years and looks as though as he is VERY unhappy being in Tennessee.
I think we can sign him for a lesser price than once thought maybe something like 4 years 32 million at the most, so about 8 million per year.

We can certainly fit that into our salary cap, we would just need to play our draft picks smart into getting maybe a starter or two and a healthy amount of depth on both sides.

To be honest, I think he was offered longer term deals. I think it was rumored that Arizona was offering him a 4 year deal but the salary was very low and didnt want to get locked up somewhere for less money so he took the 49ers deal.

I think if a team likes him enough this year they will offer him a longer term deal. I dont think 1 year is out of the question but if hes smart he either should take that longer deal or get on some high powered offense that needs a WR like the Bears or Chargers (if they lose Jackson) and get his stock back.

The only long term deal Braylon Edwards will ever get will be with a correctional facility.

Not saying he certainly will but he will now look at every option possible that allows him to sign long term. Honestly if the Jags offered him a long term deal Id venture to say hed take it in a heart beat.

Yes and No. I hate Schotty but if they are going to replace him with Koetter , trust me, fans would be even more critical of the offense.

Braylon isnt getting a long term deal from anyone. No one wanted him last season. Then after that joke season he had last year, NO ONE is giving him anything.

Id give Braylon a 3 year 8 million contract and he'd probably take it. Is he healthy? not sure, if he isnt we dont take him obviously. Bringing him back tho is priority #1. I dont want guys like Garcon, Steve Smith, lets bring back someone who had a good connection with Sanchez.
