Anybody who slammed Holmes after calling out the line truthfully, yet supports McElroy is hypocrite. McElroy didn't just call out poor playing, he flat out said that the locker room was selfish. That is far worse than what Holmes did. It's one thing to call out poor play, correctly, but it's a completely different thing to claim the locker room is full of selfish players and slam the team and coaches like that. No reason to make something like that public. He won't be back next year. If he was commenting on poor play and what needs to be fixed, it would be a different ball game. I think that Rex needs to step in and show these guys that you never throw your own players under the bus like that. Regardless of Rex's policy about speaking your mind, issues like that need to be kept internally, not reported to the already biased and hungry NY media that would LOVE an opportunity to bash the Jets.
If that was true, then what he said would've NEVER ended up in the NYC airwaves and tabloids. 10 miles...really? C'mon, man... For a man who is pretty intelligent, Greg did a very stupid thing. AT this point, I'd even consider one of the Vets like you or Cakes for OC. Anyone except Schotty.
I don't agree. Shotty is a good play designer, probably one of the better ones in the league and trust me I'm not much of a fan of his but I give the guy credit where he deserves it. His issue is he just can't manage game flow to sustain drives and has no pulse on the team during drives. That and him not calling proper plays suitable for the down and distance on a consistent basis, especially on 3rd down.
As a 3rd string QB and a rookie he can't do that in the locker room, no one will listen. It needed to be said by Sanchez. I give McElroy credit for saying what he did, he's proven to have more guts and leadership than Sanchez. The good thing coming out of this is that it has to be thoroughly embarassing to any veteran starter with a conscience that they couldn't police their own locker room and had to let a 3rd string rookie make it known to the world how poor the leadership is on the team. It will pave the way for someone to step up in that role next year.
And how does this not qualify for being a shitty OC? He may have his strengths, but so does every individual. If you really look hard, you can find strengths in every player and coach, but when someone's weaknesses outweigh their strengths, then it becomes a problem. It is apparent that his weaknesses clearly outweigh his strengths. We all have seen that.
I think Holmes' criticisms were much more costly to the team because it stirred the pot and created a climate of dysfunction throughout the season. The Jets were never really able to get it together and were constantly making mistakes. Mcelroy's comments happened after the dismal season had ended. He violated the code of keeping negative comments inside the locker room and has enabled the rest of the NFL to see the Jets dirty laundry. But, having a bad egg on team is much more damaging in the long run. The Broncos and Giants also had three and four game losing streaks but, they overcame them to succeed in the playoffs. The Jets just sputtered down the stretch because they were disconnected and not operating as a team unit.
Well if there wasn't anyone that did that then, there sure as hell going to be one now. Greg just made himself a sacrificial lamb here, IMO. If he manages to keep his job here, he's going to be in for HELL ON EARTH when he participates in training camp.
So the guy complains about the locker room on a radio station and it means he's got more guts and leadership than Sanchez? WHAT A FUCKING JOKE.
McElroy is just a good 'ol boy that was telling the truth in an interview. Was it the greatest or most thought out way.. hell no but if you just view it for what it is the kid was just being honest and speaking his mind. What the hell did Sanchez do? NOTHING... The bigger issue is why didn't Sanchez show any leadership. Sanchez isn't "aww shucks" Eli who leads by example and says little, he's said he wants to be a leader yet when provided the opportunity to show it he came up small, like his 10 yd passes at the feet of receivers or 8 ft behind or over a receiver when there's no pressure on him.
when those two dopes, Sheffter and Mort report that the Jets have fired ALL their offensive coaches and hired Hue Jackson as Assistant Head Coach- Offense, I'll be ready to listen
