Both quarterbacks were coming off of 11-5 seasons with sky high expectations. The 2006 Giants had a great running game (Tiki Barber) a good line and a good defense just like the Jets but they finished the season 8-8. EVeryone called for his head and he came back and has steadily improved to what he is today. Just wanted to point out what I found tonight. All the apologists are probably going to agree with me and the haters are going to call me stupid.
Who cares about Eli Manning? What I do care about is that the quarterback of the NEW YORK JETS has terrible accuracy, field vision and decision making.
And Giants fans said the same thing about Eli Manning in 2006. Point is Sanchez has the talent and has made the throws. Put him in a better offensive system and then judge him.
If u look hard enough you can find statistical comparisons between Sanchez and a lot of QBs past and present. That doesn't mean he will make strides like any of these players. I hope he improves, but the "Sanchez vs." threads are getting old.
I agree Schotty is garbage but Schotty is not the one who makes Sanchez throw the ball at receiver's feet all the time
You give up on QB's not based on the stats. You give up on them based on whether or not you can win with them. Period. The Jets have won a fair number of games with Sanchez at QB. They certainly wouldn't have won any more games this season with an average QB and the comparisons to the top of the NFL are ridiculous because none of those guys are third year players or even close to it. When the Jets can't win with Sanchez despite putting a good team on the field then it will be time to move on. Until that point he's better than what we've seen out of a young QB in quite some time. The Chad comparisons are completely nonsensical. The man could not stay on the field and he did not win consistently in the playoffs. As a result the Jets didn't do as well with him as they have with Sanchez.
The John Hufnagel saga as it relates to the NY Giants and Eli Manning: "Hufnagel became the offensive coordinator of the New York Giants in 2004, and molded them into NFL’s most potent offenses. Tiki Barber set a franchise rushing record two years in a row, and the Giants became only the fifth team in NFL history to have five different players score at least seven touchdowns. (Tiki Barber, Jeremy Shockey, Plaxico Burress, Amani Toomer and Brandon Jacobs). While Hufnagel is credited with the rapid development of quarterback Eli Manning, he is sometimes criticized for his often predictable playcalling and an inabiltiy to utilize his offensive playmakers effectively. During the 2006 season, Hufnagel came under much criticism for being too pass-happy and abandoning the running game after the Giants trailed during games. In addition, he was also questioned for having Manning throw the ball the third and sixth most passes in the league over 2005 and 2006 despite Tiki Barber clearly being the best player on offense. In addition, his situational playcalling came under scrutiny, such as when running back Brandon Jacobs was removed from the game inside the five yardline in two games, thus making the offense more predictable to opposing defenses. Following a 30–7 defeat by the New Orleans Saints, Hufnagel was stripped of his duties as offensive coordinator. A week later, it was revealed he was fired." Cut and paste from Wikipedia. Tom Coughlin, who had history with Hufnagel from Jacksonville, knew that if he didn't step in and clearly define the root of the problems on offense in 2005 and 2006 that Eli Manning would be the one taking it in the neck from the fans and media. He pointed the finger where it needed to be pointed, at the people most responsible for developing Eli and running the offense and he fired them. The alternative would have been to likely lose Eli Manning to the firestorm. A year late the Giants won a Super Bowl.
the example cited above is not relevant, since the giants have a GM who is actually qualified for the job.
This is an obvious point, but will not get through the hard-heads that is the New York Jets fanbase. Fact is, in this town its "what have you done for me lately", and the average fan will only remember how he finished this year, which was awful. Therefore, to them he is an awful QB. Truth --> He had a very shaky third year, but still shows flashes of brilliance. He has a pretty good sense of the pocket, although this year that skill was reeeeally put to the test because there really was no pocket, LOL. His main flaw is ball security...he NEEDS to stop with the fumbles. The picks this year weren't as bad as previous years when you consider the increase in attempts, that has been improving steadily. Its the fumbles that need to be worked on. All in all, I feel that most fans don't realize how dysfunctional to the core this offense was this year, and it made Sanchez look reeeeally bad. He's not GREAT, but he doesn't deserve all this ridiculous blame. He's a good kid and he definitely wants to win and has the mentality of a winner. Just because he can't control SANTONIO doesn't mean he's not a leader....nobody can control that animal.
Schottenheimer didn't force Pennington to throw pick 6's to the opposing DBs nor did he force Favre to throw 22 INTs. *Yeah. Right. What have you been watching lately? If the play design is garbage, QBs can do only so much. 6 years of Schottenheimer obviously isn't enough for you. Good job right there.*
Jets offense hasn't had any creativity since Vinny left. They are a 2000 styled offense stuck in 2011. They don't know how to get receivers open downfield while giving Sanchez time. Now, part of that obviously is the Oline's fault, but you need to find ways around that. They should have been rolling Sanchez out right more this year.
Play design affects accuracy? The slant is pretty much the only throw I see Sanchez can consistently make and even those he's all over the place with.
Pretty sure the OC got canned. That's exactly what we need to do. It's crazy how similar their career #s are. Imagine how angry Giants fans would be if they dumped Manning in 2007, then saw him rise to become one of the best in the league? Don't forget, he took them to a superbowl in his 4th year. Sanchez could do the same. Fix the offense. It deserves full attention this off season. Give Mark a good supporting cast, not a flimsy offensive line, and no running game to lean back on. If Schotty's staying, he'd better have someone breathing down his neck at all times. Whip Holmes into shape, watch Kerley excel after next year's training camp. It will be an interesting off season. That's for sure.
I find it hilarious that its the EXACT same Giant "fans" who think Eli deserves MVP votes this year (im dead serious they really think this), that were the very same people who wanted him cut before they won that superbowl. And yet well have many of the same people as Jet fans on Sanchez
