We have all our picks expect a 7th but an extra 6th. Also, we are not trading Holmes to move up for a player unless they are elite. The only player Id trade up for in this draft for this team is Trent Richardson or Justin Blackmon. And for the lack of depth we have we shouldn't be trading up at all. We should be going BPA and trading down.
Could we afford Carl Nicks and a safety? Because if we dont solve the safety position through FA, then its not going to be...
Not a top flight safety but a serviceable one. Think about it, the Jets 2011 defense wasn't bad and that was with Eric Smith starting.
To be fair were watching the Cmen and not the Jets today because of Shitheads like Eric Smith. 99 yard td anyone ? Burnt by Tebow ? 100 tds by the Pats TEs ? Our defense as a whole was fine, our safeties lost us games hard tho. Im more than happy with a 6m/yr fa safety + a rookie + Leonhard + whichever of our shitheads we decide to keep
This is my opinion too. This team NEEDS a safety that isnt a liability. There’s not too many years where there will be 5 or so solid safeties entering FA. IMO, this is a must when looking at this team. Shitty safety play is a large reason why we arent in the playoffs- Cruz, Tebow, Celek... all being burnt.
I fully agree. We cannot begin the year with Smith as a starter. I like Leonhard and expect him to be back. Saftey play has been questionable. I dont know what our cap situation looks like, espicially after we resign our guys and take care of any player cuts, so maybe getting a cover guy like Lowery could solve problems short term on the cheap.
The beauty of keeping Eric Smith (cheap) is he capable of starting if need be, is a solid special teamer, isnt good enuf to get real money, and allows us to take a risk on an injury risk ala Otogwe or Landry cheap, while still having a guy who can step in if they miss a few starts
Free Agency is not the key. Free agency is not the key to a successful season. We need some key role players, but no more 5 year, 45 million dollar problems. The past three seasons have proved that. Also look at the Eagles this past season.
I agree you need a nice balance and going hard in free agency is not ideal unless you are addressing a major need. For example Faneca and Woody signings gave us argueably the best o lines when we signed each of them. Holmes was somewhat of a necissity but we definately overpaid, as he is no #1. In regard to the eagles they put a very good team together. They have all-pros all over the place, they just were not executing. I fully expect them to be in the playoffs for the next few years at least.
