I love the Sanchez apologists. You change the line to have 5 all-pro's, and if he sucks, its because they didn't have time to gel. If they suck again in 2 years, its because they are old. If you change the OC, same thing. If you dont change the o-line, OC, HB, WR's, its that they were not changed. It will never be his fault, and the retarded excuses will always continue. Its like watching someone who made a bad stock bet try to double down on and/or justify holding onto the stock because they got in on the stock at the ground floor. At some point, you have to stop making excuses and cut your losses. We have reached that point with out shitty qb.
Only a pure hater would go into a topic about the offensive line just to bash Sanchez blindly, without even addressing the topic. Getting rid of Sanchez now would be stupid, especially when we are aware of the problems we need to fix. QB isn't one of them. Many QBs don't instantly become elite in their 3rd season. Many break out in the 4th. Cutting him when he's shown improvement in most categories despite poor protection and terrible play calling is pretty much dumb, unless you actually can bring in a guy like Manning. Anybody completely blaming Sanchez knows nothing about football. Yes, he could be better, but he also has been a punching bag this season. A lot of people could be playing better on offense this year. It certainly isn't just one person.
So whats your plan? What QB should we get, how should we go about fixing the team? I think the best thing would be to build up the rest of our team and leave Sanchez. We were able to take Sanchez to 2 AFC championship games and we didn't lose because of him. Get him a new OC and see what happens. Worst case scenario, we have a really strong O line and Defense and can surrond a new QB or old veteran QB with a very strong team. Best case, Sanchez takes a step up and become a better team overall. What is wrong with this plan? If you cannot see the O line took a step back, then I don't know what Jets team you were watching.
I have said a million times, go get Manning. If not Manning, take a chance on Flynn, or draft someone. Sanchez should be the last option for this team, and even then, if he is here, he better have someone who can a) beat him out for the job and b) if by some miracle Sanchez wins a qb competition, to take his place the second he inevitably throws his 2nd int in one of the first 2 games of the season. As for the line, I have also addressed that a million times. Get a qb with a clue, who can read defenses, pick-up blitz packages, and adjust the play to beat the defense, and this line becomes a premier line. Many hate Hunter, but Hunter is a product of Sanchez being awful. So was Brick's down year. Manning makes both guys look like all-pros, and so do most competent NFL caliber qb's, something that Sanchez is simply not. And, its really much easier getting rid of Sanchez, making fewer changes, and getting to the SB that way than building a roster that can win in spite of Sanchez. But, if he is here, I agree with you, build up the rest of the team, then once he inevitably "disappoints" again, this team will be ready for whoever would take over in 2013. But to get back to my original point, every Sanchez defense post begins by blaming someone else. To many on here, he is flawed, but someone else is more flawed. My only initial point was that people will always make excuses for Sanchez, and before you know it, he might have been here for 10 years and wasted the careers of Revis, Harris and Mangold.
See I don't agree Manning can overcome our poor O line play. He could hide our deficiencies but could not mask them a whole season I believe. Look at Brady in 07 in the SB, he could not overcome his poor o line play. If you think Hunter being bad is a product of Sanchez, I am not sure what to say. People straight beat him and push him back into Sanchez. Sanchez doesn't have 10 seconds and gets sacked. He is pressured immediately the majority of the time. What happens if we take a chance on Flynn and are wrong? We allocated money very very poorly and have nothing left. What happens if Manning reaggravates his injury or is not old Manning? We know we can succeed in the playoffs with Sanchez, we can do it in the future also. To your initial point, nobody has ever suggested wait on Sanchez for 10 years. The most I read is for 2 years until his contract ends. The majority opinion is get him a new OC and judge his improvement next year. Not sure where 10 years comes from? You think we sign Sanchez for a 10 year contract or he plays well enough to receive a long extension? Only way that happens is if he becomes elite or wins a super bowl.
Getting Manning simply isn't realistic or rational. To begin with the Jets do not have the cap space to sign and fit Manning in. They'd have to cut half their team. Secondly, they'd have to give up most of their draft for probably the next two drafts, so couldn't address any of their other needs or the new ones created by having to cut starters in order to fit Manning under the cap. Giving that much to take a QB who, at most, will probably only play 1-2 more years anyway, and is only one hard hit from being sidelined again for the whole year (or maybe the rest of his career) is simply insane, particularly with the Jets' OL. I doubt Manning would even be willing to come to NY play behind that OL, in the circus that is the Rex Ryan led Jets, and under Schottenheimer. Add to that the Colts would probably never give Manning up for anything less than a King's ransom (so he can tutor Luck for a year or two), and this idea is absolutely ridiculous without even one shred of validity. Saying that Hunter was bad because of Sanchez is equally wrong, asinine and ridiculous. Hunter has never started in the NFL for a reason. He sucks. It was his being a matador/revolving door that blew up so many plays. Sanchez never had time to screw them up because Hunter's man was usually on top of him as soon as the ball was snapped. As displaced says, no one is suggesting giving Sanchez 7 more years. He has made some big plays for this team and played very well in the playoffs, even as a rookie. He deserves another year under a competent QB coach and competent OC and with an OL again that has an NFL-caliber RT, not the two incompetent doofuses that he's had to play under the last 3 years.
I think it really depends on if Manning is 100% or not. If he is, then I think there is no reason to think he cant mask the deficiencies of the O-Line (if they even exist). Aside from Saturday and Tarik Glenn, he never had great lines. But the lines seemed great because it has always been common knowledge that if you blitz Manning, he will get the ball out quick and destroy you. He prevented sacks and made the line look better because he understood what the defense wanted to do and how to approach it. As for Manning getting re-injured. If it happens, you move on and draft a new qb next year. But you have to take chances in the NFL when you have them. And with Sanchez, you need to basically rebuild a whole roster. With Manning, all you need is about 5-6 pieces. As for my 10 year comment, it just seems like some people get attached to guys just because they have been here. Just like when Herm was here, no matter how bad he was, people still kept saying give him chances. And Sanchez is basically becoming the new Herm - the guy who needs to go, but has enough support where it probably wont happen as soon as it needs to.
