So whose your top realistic choice for the Jets?

2 things, what are the chances Barron falls to us in round 2? And what are your thoughts on Whitney Mercilus being able to transform from a DE to a 3-4 OLB? A deep, thought out response would be awesome.

i cannot say it enough - NEVER EVER use a pick to draft a kicker/punter. years ago u could maybe use a late day 2 pick or round 12 pick or whatever but with 7 rounds these days NO team should have this position on their board.

 

Its fine if your taking one in the late rounds, its just that the Nugent pick was laughable on so many levels.

 

I agree with you, but for one time Al Davis got it right with Janikowski and the punter who led the league for about 5 years running (Lechler was it?)

 

What was laughable, we gave up a 1st Rd pick, added a 2nd rd pick for Doug Jolley.

Al Davis is still laughing in his grave, he screwed Bradway.

We drafted Justin Miller & Nugent in Rd 2.

Both bad picks, Miller was a terrible CB, good KR. I hate Clemson players they all suck in the
NFL.

But really they are very much under achievers. I hope Sammy Watkins pans out in the NFL, he is a beast and I think will be one of the best players in the country soon.

 

I'd go with Upshaw. A true 3-4 OLB. You can build around him and Mo Wilkerson for years to come.

 

I love Kuechly personally. With the news about Scott being cut we are going to need another ILB. Kuechly has Brian Urlacher type instincts. In terms of tackling (fundamentally) i think he will be the best on the team from day one. He also has very good pass coverage skills. We need a LB or S that can cover RB/TE, he could be it. This also allows us to use Harris as a blitzer more on pass downs because he wont be the only one who can cover a capable RB/TE. He will not overwhel with his athleticism, which is why i think he may fall to us.

Other guys I like a lot are Mercilus, DeCastro, Rieff, and definately Martin if he falls.

I dont think WR is good value here at #16, however i would not be disappointed if we land Jeffery or Floyd. I would rather see us get one in rd. 2-3 since this is a very deep class. For Rieff or DeCastro maybe we can trade down some spots and pick up an extra 2 or a 1 next year, like some teams have been doing recently.

 

^Lost with all due respect, wideout is huge value if we can land Jeffery at 16. That kid is going to be a stud.

I keep hearing DeCastro get compared to guys such as Faneca and Hutch. If that's the case and he's THAT safe, I think he should be the choice.

I see where you are coming from with Jeffery. I agree that he will be a stud, he may turn into a top 15 WR or even eventually a top 10 guy. He has great size, good enough speed, quality hands, but im not overly sold on his route running (which to me is most important), which cold be due to lackluster QB play and not getting the ball thrown his way enough.

I dont think the value is quite there for a few reasons. There is great depth in this draft. I think some of the guys in rounds 2-3 have just as much upside if not more than both floyd and jeffery. Guys like Dwight Jones, Kendall Wright, and Mohamed Sanu (all could end up sneaking into round 1). Then there are guys like Streeter, Randal, Toon, McNutt, Jenkins, Fuller, Hilton, White, Hill, Broyles all can turn into quality WR. Then in FA there are guys like D. Jackson, Wayne, Meachem, Colston, Manningham, Bowe, Berrian, and Garcon. There are alot of options out there to make our recieving unit better. Now im not saying these guys will all be better than Jeffery but i think most would definatly upgrade our current WR's.

I do think DeCastro is that safe a pick. I feel he would come to the NFL and barring an injury he would instantly be a top 20 G maybe higher. I also think Kuechly is one of the safer picks in the draft. Pass rushing OLB are almost always the most risky, but like you i like Mercilus and Upshaw (leaning toward mercilus).

 

For the reasons you named, it would be hard to pick a WR in the 1st. There's plenty of options that would help improve our WR group. Unless we trade or cut Holmes, it would be a really tough pick in the 1st.

You draft a guy like Fuller or Jones and add a FA like Meachem and the group is fixed long term.

With Brandon Jenkins staying at school, it would be hard to pass on Mercilus or Upshaw. It would be really risky counting on a guy to drop to their pick in the 2nd round (Vinny Curry or Nick Perry).

 

I'd be willing to bet the Jets only draft a WR if its Jeffrey, unless Floyd looks awesome at the combine and the BPA is himself. I think we go OLB 75% unless Decastro is there.

I would love a wideout like Floyd but i think this staff wants other things.

Perry could definitely be there in the 2nd though, he's a early day 2 prospect and I'm expecting some good players to drop. If not Bruce Irvin should be there at 48 or whatever.

I actually could even see Currys stock falling , he has no true position. Most teams hate that.

Unless Mark Barron is there in the 3rd no safety should be taken by us in this draft unless the value is overwhelming.

A tackle in the 3rd I definitely agree with though.

 

What are the Alabama tackles' stock as of now? And also Mike Adams? Could they be available in the 2nd for us/is there value in that pick?

 

I'm assuming you are talking about their OTs. DJ Fluker is staying from what I've heard. He's a big time prospect though, next year he should be one of the top tackles. Same goes for Barrett Jones who is also staying.

Mike Adams right now is a second round prospect. His stock will vary after the combine but he should be avaiable in the second IMO. I see better Tackle prospects to target in the second though. Like Matt Reynolds, Levy Adcock, or one of my favorites Zebrie Sanders.

 

I see Adam's as late first / eraly second. The red flags against him are not as big of a deal as some may thing and he's played at a very high level over his Ohio career. Tackles beign at a premium will keep his draft stock high.

 

Don't get me wrong , I like Mike Adams I actually think he is a great fit at RT but I think Zebrie Sanders and Mike Reynolds stock is going to boom soon, they should have great combines and interviews. They will be early second round picks, thus pushing down Adams. I think our most realistic choice though is Zebrie , if a team needs a LT he wont be their man, he is a 4 year starter at RT. But for a team like us he is perfect.
