Ochochinco wont be a Patriot next year,Holmes would be a walk on for the Pats.Thats the last thing we want
I'd rather trade him for a 5th like the Steelers did. Some team will be arrogant enough to think they can handle him, like Rex did.
is that really the extent of your cognitive ability? do you really think simply cutting him for no other reason than to make a statement isn't a bad idea simply because signing him was a bad idea? very basic logical reasoning would lead to the conclusion that one has nothing to do with the other and you don't exacerbate the mistake of the signing by making an equally dumb fuck decision to hastily cut him because it makes you feel good and proactive. carry on.
A team like the Pats is the only type of team that could deal with a player like Holmes. The Pats have the most important things needed in dealing with a player like him which is a veteran locker room overflowing with leadership from top to bottom. The guys in that locker room would never stand for his bullshit and neither would their coach. BB commands a certain type of conduct from his players and conversly they expect that from each other. They are held accountable for their actions. Rex is the absolute worst coach to handle a player like Holmes. Rex holds no one accountable. What kind of message does it send the rest of the team to hear their HC and GM making excuses on radio and in print for their prima donna "me first" WR? Not to mention making him a fucking CAPTAIN! I think we are going to see a reversal in what we are used to hearing about how "everyone wants to play for Rex" FA's that take winning seriously and aren't just out for how much $ they can make are going to shy away from the circus the Jets have become. I know it's not a popular way of thinking on this board but I for one wish Rex would be the one shown the door. He is an embarrassment to this organization and nothing more then a glorified DC in HC clothing. He knows nothing about assembling a TEAM and Tannenbaum is no better. How many HC's do you hear saying "i didn't know what was going on in the locker room because i realize i didn't have the pulse on this team"? ARE YOU FUCKING KIDDING ME? I'D FIRE HIM FOR THOSE WORDS ALONE! "I'm getting more involved in the offense". How,BY HAVING FUCKING ICE CREAM SUNDAYS?!! Again, ARE YOU FUCKING KIDDING ME?!!!!! He's been saying that for 2 FUCKING YEARS! There's areason Baltimore didn't hire this clown when they were looking for a HC. They knew he wasn't HC material. The guy's a fucking joke and now so are the JETS. It's fucking pathetic.
He wasn't a cancer in 2010. Perhaps leader Rex needs to step up his game and put players like Holmes in their place, instead of bestowing "Captain" status on his sleeve and seeing if that would change things. Holmes behavior was inexcusable. However, the team was already critically sick. The offense when it mattered had completely lost any vertical passing game, and its once promising QB was exhibiting David Carr-like "Battered Wife Syndrome" from continued shotty (no pun intended) O-line play (and lack offensive adjustments to address said deficiency). Plus, the Jets would have $9M of dead cap hit to endure in 2012 and have to replace Holmes (and Burress) with some quality at the WR slot. Much better to invoke a "tough love" plan for Holmes and try to get him involved in the 2012 offense since the team desperately lacks playmakers.
HE has a cap hit the team can't take. that is entirely the point, it isn't financially possible to cut him and improve the team where it desperately needs it- O-line safety etc.
They are running a multimillion dollar business, not a jets forum. They won't cut him for the same reason they don't want to fire BS, it's a bad business decision. I'm sure they would love to make both of those decisions and have a clean slate on the books.
He wanted to get paid in 2010, he knew he had to be a good soldier. The cap hit is obviously the problem.
The Jets are unable to cut him because they do not have the cap room before March 1st. His 2012 salary is guaranteed meaning if they cut him it accelerates to 2011. They do not have enough cap space in 2011 left to cut him. But what makes matters worse is if he is on the roster March 1st another $7 million from 2013 becomes guaranteed. The Jets have no good options on Holmes except to hope he rehabilitates himself or he gets a year suspension for another substance abuse violation. A new QB could do wonders for his career and his attitude. Winning seems to make everyone a nicer person. Unfortunately losing seems to bring out the worst in people which seems to be whats happened with Holmes.
It's not popular because it's an incredibly foolish, tremendously shortsighted, knee jerk reaction. As I said last night, posts like this make me think Jet fans deserve to have an endless cycle of Edwards/Mangini/Kotite types running the team.
I think that there is more to it than that. Holmes was a good soldier but also used much more in the downfield attack. What is different in 2011? Hunter vs Woody, Plax vs Edwards, more Mulligan, worse seasons by Mangold/D-Brick
I don't care if he's frustrated. He should work harder to beat double teams if he's so frustrated instead of acting like a dumb fuck. How often was he used in the downfield attack? He had Braylon on the other side taking the top off the defense and taking attention away from him, yea. He's a #2 WR, not a #1. He needs someone else to take attention away from him.
No you are the one being short sighted. You are blinded by the fact that we went to 2 AFCCG and thats enough for you. You don't realize that this team is not being built for the long hall. It's just a bunch of under achievers and malcontents that nobody else wants lead by a coach that doesn't know anything about what it takes to build a "team". Name 1 coach that ran a lose ship and won anything? I'm sure you can't. Coaches labled "players coaches" never win anything. I'm not sure how old you are but i've been around for the guys youve mentioned and more. I think i know what it feels like to have a coach that isn't right for the team and Rex isn't the right guy. He talks a better game then he coaches. His team is rarely prepared to play a big game with the exception of the NE playoff game. Open your eyes and see that this team has fallen apart and Rex had no clue. That is not the kind of coach I want for my team.
I highly doubt Belichick would want any part of Holmes after the destruction he caused in Pitt and for the Jets.
wide receiver is one of the most expendable positions in the nfl. the problem is the salary cap hit they would take but if there was a way to get around that via a trade or whatever it should be done and it would be addition by subtraction. some of the best wide receivers of all time got traded or let go because their diva act ran its course and the teams that traded them improved afterwards. if randy moss and terrell owens could be let go and their former teams recovered just fine, then getting rid of a glorified number 2 receiver disguised as a number 1 receiver would be the good long term decision. team chemistry is important, it don't matter the sport but way better teams then this 2011 jets team that had championship aspirations fell apart and imploded due to poor chemistry and a negative locker room.
