I have a problem with this argument. Plax, Turner, Kerley and everyone else still hustled. You have Reggie Wayne hustling for the 0-12 Colts. You had MJD hustling for the terrible Jags. Just because you have a QB that can't get you the ball doesn't absolve you for not hustling or trying. Maybe Sanchez wasn't throwing at Tone because he was running lazy routes? Or no you assume right away that Santonio was open and Sanchez didn't throw it to him? It also didn't help the last time we focused on Tone he fumbled, let a pass go through his hands for a pick, and then taunt the other team down 20+ points. The lack of hustle is all on Tone, you cannot blame it on anyone else. He quit.
Plax was sulking and running BS routes in the beginning of the season. How soo ppl forget he was the one isolated on the bench and pissed off for not gettign the ball. It pisses me off that people act like Holmes is the 1st diva WR.
I'm not saying Tone is the only diva WR, but with the game all but over Plax was fighting and so was the rest of the team. Even though Plax didn't get the ball, he was still blocking down field and laying people out. Helping when he still wasn't getting the ball. I understand WR is a diva position, but that doesn't absolve Holmes for giving up since other players do it. My biggest issue is people saying since Sanchez wasn't throwing to Holmes, he can quit. That is the most ridiculous response ever. Just because ou aren't getting the ball means you can quit.
I hate quitters. I hate whiney crybaby quitters more and don't want to see that type of player on the Jets. Players like Wayne Chrebet played during the lowest times this franchise has ever seen and did he complain? No. NEVER. That being said, I don't think there's much you can do about Holmes. His cap hit would be too great if we cut him and I don't think we'd get much for him in a trade. Here's what I think the Jets should do. Cut Plax. He's not effective anymore anyway. Find a new #1 receiver, whether it be in free agency or the draft. Make it a priority. If not, resign Braylon because at least they got along and Braylon could stretch the field vertically. I just don't think Holmes thrives in the #1 receiver role. He can be a good player when surrounded with other talented receivers.
Re-watch the game, Holmes was getting open all day. Sanchez would look his way for about a half second then immediately dump off the ball, I'd be pissed too if I were him. I have no problem with a player showing his emotion on the football field. Something had to be done, and Holmes knew it. It finally got to the point where he couldn't take it anymore. When your QB has you in position to win the game, then throws a pick down 6 in the redzone late in the 4th, what do you expect him to do? Suck it up and walk off quietly? If that was his first INT of the game I could understand, but it was the third and a horrible pass at that. If we had a competent QB and OC, Holmes wouldn't be complaining. He's a playmaker that he needs to be thrown the football, and Sanchez failed to do so all day, throwing INTs to defensive lineman instead. He has every right to bitch, moan, or whatever until we get a QB that can take advantage of his strengths. That is why Rex has an open-media policy anyway, right?
He does not have a right. Then Sanchez has a right to complain about Wayne Hunter since he can't block everyone? Should Sanchez complain since Tone fumbled and dropped a cathc that turned into pick in Philly? Should Revis complain since Smith can't cover anyone? Something had to be done does not mean to complain. It means to approach your QB and OC on the sidelines and let them know your open and they should run plays. Braylon did this in Indy inthe playoffs last year. Went to Rex, Schotty, Mark and said I'm open hit me. We did and Folk kicked the game winner. And Holmes was not open all day, I'm not sure what fantasy world you are living in. And guess what, people said Holmes was doing this back since before or right after the Philly game. Holmes quit, it was his own fault he did, and he should have not quit. There is no way you can blame a player for quitting on anyone but himself. I never said anything about emotion, I'm saying quitting is the primary problem and should not be blamed on anyone but Holmes himself. Sanchez picked himself up after getting drilled time after time but Hunter. Holmes got pulled for running lackluster routes, and players said it started a while ago. Go ahead and blame one pick in the last game for the lackluster effort 2-3 games before it happened.
And he was gone the second the attitude came back. See how that works? I think they need to accept the loss and cut him. The money is gone regardless, a sunk cost. The question is, are the Jets better with Holmes or without him? I think they're better without him, because he would have to have Megatron-like numbers to make up for the cancer he introduces in the locker room. A guy like that doesn't just take himself out of a game--he hurts the entire team. Any coach or GM with more than two brain cells to rub together understands that. That's why T.O. still doesn't have an offer, even though he probably could have signed for cheap and instantly been a top-10 WR. Even elite players are not worth it if they make the entire team worse.
Thats what I'm thinking though, we take the cap hit just to get rid of this cancer, its obvious a lot of people don't want him back including our fucking rookie QB who shouldn't even be talking even though I agree with him. We both know thats not going to happen though because that would include Tanny admitting he was wrong in signing Holmes to more than a 1 year deal.
I'd love to see some video of Holmes getting open and Sanchez looking away from him. I don't believe it for a second.
Thats because its a lie, I actually focused on Holmes a couple of times that game and saw him get destroyed/blanketed by Vontae Davis.
He is too good to let go. I haven't forgotten how many games he has won for us I don't care if he is a giant asshole as long as he comes back with a better attitude. If Schotty is gone I think he will be good to go.
Maybe I'm dead wrong but what did Holmes do this year that Kerley couldn't do? I like Holmes' talent but he's far from a top flight receiver.
Go back to Holmes' TD catch in the SB when he was with the Steelers and he won the MVP, and go back more recently to his TD catch when we defeated the Pats in the Playoffs. I may be dead wrong, but I highly doubt Kerley makes either of those catches (and FTR, I'm a big supporter of Kerley).
he does not have the right to constantly "bitch, moan, or whatever" ... he played in this system last year and knew what he was getting into with BS and sanchez when he signed
Ftr, that debate is now settled. Tanny picked the wrong guy to stay. Another bad decision by the bean counter.
