Anybody who honestly didn't think Peyton was going to stay in Indy is deluded. It was pretty much a pipedream thinking he might come to the Jets. Our QB is fine, anyways. Ditch Schotty, beef up the oline and we're golden.
Hah... well, Manning sure isn't old and busted, but I just think the team has tried the approach of going out and renting a high-end veteran QB. We would have to change the offensive system completely and there will still be a learning curve of a year at least, and how many years would we get out of him? 2-3?
I'm a big believer of building through youth and letting players develop. Not everyone on the team, obviously you need some experienced guys. Manning would be good for a year or two (depending on how he's healed from his injury) but then what? Sanchez might not be THE guy but at least we have some time to figure out whether or not he is THE guy and let him develop a bit. If he's not the guy then it's still a bit of a "now what" scenario but to give up assets to trade for Manning even if he was available (which I doubt) for a year or two doesn't make sense to me...unless it guaranteed us a SB win but it wouldn't.
Wow. Are you serious?! I didn't know that. I thought for sure he wanted to stay his senior year, and after knowing the Jets had the first pick, it made his choice even more certain.
basically if Parcells would have sent word to Archie assuring him he'd take Peyton he would have come out.
If Matt Ryan flops this Sunday and goes to 0-3 in the playoffs, is he still a better QB than Sanchez ????
Well yea but that doesn't take anything away from Sanchez. Ryan is a good qb with much better weapons around him.
up until a few weeks ago Sanchez had very similar #s to Ryan. Ryan has been better in the reg season, Sanchez better in postseason.
Sanchez was a big contributor in the Jets collapse to miss the post season this year. He obviously wasn't the only culprit and the o-line didn't help him out too much, but I can't look away from what he did with the playoffs on the line this year.
He stunk no doubt about it but I can't forget what he did the last 2 years like so many are. He's still a young QB, he took a step back. He'll get better, I have no doubt about that.
I think the Jets should go after Matt Forte instead of Manning. Period. Matt Forte would be an HUGE instant boost to our offense
I remember what he did, I'm not as sure as you that he'll get better though. I'm not giving up, just looking from a bit of a different perspective than I used to after the late season collapse.
Aren't the Bears just going to franchise Forte and take the one year cap hit? It's definitely not in their best interests to sign him to a huge deal but I'd think they want him back for another year to make one more big run at the Packers. They'll be heavily outclassed next season without him.
If Peyton Manning fell down the stairs of his house, and was never able to play again, I wouldn't mind it one bit..
If if the Jets DID get him and win it all, will you sing a different tune? I think you will. (FTR I can't stand him either)
If Peyton came here and we won a SB I'd love him forever BUT he barely won one in his prime(a postseason he threw 3 TDs and 7 INTs) w/ better talent around him- why would he all of a sudden win here past his prime and coming off an injury that we have no idea if he'll ever be able to recover from?
