Or they draft luck, trade peyton for a 1st and 3rd, then rebuild a team that way ?

Considering they literally have nothing with Wayne/Mathis gone.

They have an old OL, old bad defense, no wrs, 1 old TE, and thats really it .

This team cant even compete with Peyton anymore.

Their choice is basically be a 7-9 win team with Peyton for 3-4 years until he retires and become a 3-5 win team. Or trade Peyton draft luck, be a 3-7 win team for 3-4 years, then eventually explode once Luck has become a stud and theyve stockpiled talent.

Its a nobrainer to me, if you can trade Peyton you absolutely HAVE to

nobody knows whether he is actually a sure thing, so that isn't a realistic discussion point.

beyond that, my entire point is based on them drafting Luck. if they decide not to, nothing I stated would apply to that scenario. of course they wouldn't trade out of the 1st pick and get rid of Manning.

Where did you get 10 years from? If Sanchez is here for 10 more years it means we won a Super Bowl. Nobody here has ever suggested we stay with Sanchez for more than the length of his contract (2 years). Would like to know where you think people want him for 10 years?

That's the mentality of of the Sanchez bashers.

It's either cut him right now, today, or you have to keep him for the next decade.

Manish Mehta of the New York Daily News firmly believes the Jets will inquire about Peyton Manning if his surgically repaired neck checks out and the Colts make him available.

Mehta tells PFT Live that the Jets would "make a legitimate inquiry" into Manning due to coach Rex Ryan's "affinity" for him as the game's best QB. The Jets insists they are firmly behind Mark Sanchez, but that commitment would be put to a strenuous test if Manning hits the market. The Jets are set up to win now, and Sanchez appears to be regressing rather than improving

Even if the Jets were interested in getting Manning, I don't think he would be interested in coming over. Wasn't it because the Jets had the first pick that year is why he decided to stay another year in college? Well, it doesn't matter because we would never give up that much to get him, anyway. I mean, what would any team give for a 37 year old QB who's neck injury may or may not allow him to play another game, never mind a full season. It's too much of a risk. We pulled this stunt with Favre, and look where that got us. Let's not repeat the same mistake.

Besides Luck; who else is there in the draft this year?

The Jets are not set up to win now.

And, the mentality that they are is going to keep them old, slow, and out of contention until they realize that they are not a "win now" team.

    Not exactly.

He wanted to come out of college and go to the Jets as the first pick, but Bill Parcells wouldn't guarantee that he would take him #1 overall, so he stayed in shcool for another year.

But, you're right about him not coming here. From every interview I've heard or seen with Peyton, Eli, or Archie, it's pretty clear that the Mannings don't like Rex Ryan.

Heres where the problem comes. If we pursue Manning and fail to get him, Sanchez's confidence will be beyond shot. I dont think Sanchez would survive it.

The one positive is Rex has praised Peyton since day 1, that could help alot imo.

Jim Isray and Peyton are going to meet. I believe this meeting where they cut ties. Its over in Indy, even Mike fatcessa said its dead, its over. Peyton will probably ask to be released. Its impossible for Manning-Luck to co-exist. This isnt Favre-Rodgers because Rodgers was drafted very late in the first round and wasnt the first pick in the draft and wasnt being paid close to the amount that Luck will be.

Peyton Manning will be the biggest free agent in the history of the NFL. This will be nuts.

If he's a free agent he's going to go to Tennessee and they will grab him at whatever cost just to try to beat out the Texans next season.

FWIW, I now think there's a 20% chance of Manning leaving Indy -- because of the Polian departure (Bill, not Chris).

Peyton and Bill Polian were VERY close.

According to Archie, Peyton wanted to play for the Jets in 1997. Archie talked with Parcells and asked Parcells for a guarantee he would draft Peyton before Peyton would declare for the draft. Parcells would not do that so Peyton stayed a additional year.

There are many reasons Peyton would want to come to the Jets:

    1. To play in the same city with his brother
    2. Marketing
    3. The Jets would be the best team by far he has ever played for.
    4. The Jets OL is much better than any line Manning has ever had.
    5. With the Jets defense and a healthy Manning the Jets instantly become the best team in the league and SB favorites.
    6. The Jets would give him the best chance to add more rings.
    7. He would get to play Tom Brady twice a year and prove who the better QB is. Not to mention he would get to toast the Pats defense twice a year.
    8. With a couple of rings he can make the case for being the greatest QB of all time.
    9. He is Mr. Commercial what better place to be in the spotlight. With the possibilty of him breaking Favre's passing records he will make a lot of money in NY.
    10. With Tom Moore the Jets have the ability to convert their offense to Peyton's offense quicker than any other team.

If thats true then Parcells blew it. Parcells could have owned the NFL for another decade. I always thought Peyton didnt care which team he went, he just wanted to play another year in college.

If we chase Peyton, we have to get him. I dont want to be sitting at the end of the 2012 season saying "why did we chase Peyton, we coulda resigned our core group" similar to the whole asomougha thing last summer.

The beauty of starting Peyton Manning is that you wouldn't have to hire an offensive coordinator..he'd handle it.
