Would be the stupidest fucking decision since O'Donnell. What happens when/if we shell out all of that $, that fucking retard gets sacked/hit and he practically dies? Will we still be built to "win now?"
We're not built to win now if you made the QB the Almighty hisself. The line is still in decline, the backs are still an issue, the WR's are average at best, the defensive front seven still can't get pressure on the QB and they can't stop a strong edge runner. The safeties? Maybe the worst set of safeties of any contender in the league right now. Into this we'd import a 36 year old QB coming off of multiple surgeries and a missed season and we'd be making him play outside in the northeast in the fall and winter? Really?
Sad thing is if we sign Peyton I'm not completely sure that we're not going 4-12 next season anyway due to an offensive line collapse and an aging defense.
Our defense was still #7 considering we had the most incompetent offense leading to the most points off turnovers in the nfl as well as a hundred billiony 3 and outs putting more pressure on the defense Fact is Wilkerson is solid, Devito is Solid, Revis is the best corner in football, Cromartie/Kdub are still above average corners, Harris is a top 5 mlb,Its not like our defense is shit. As much as you can complain theres a 99% chance its a top 10 defense for the next 5 years. And hell we still have the best center in football, and a top 5 LT, plus a serviceable LG. This teams not terrible, it just has some holes
If the Jets signed Peyton with the current o-line, they could probably get convicted of murder in the 1st degree when Peyton gets his neck broken in week 1.
Luck is a play now QB. unlike Aaron Rodgers, who the Packers drafted because he was too good to pass up as a late first rounder which they knew they would need eventually, the Colts are drafting Luck to play immediately, not wait his turn. sitting on the bench an entire season doesn't hold any great advantage, even behind Manning. You want him on the field his rookie season to learn by playing, and there is no way in hell they pay Manning $28 million to play a few games ahead of him before sending him on the field. if the Colts keep Manning that organization has lost its mind.
There's nowhere near a 99% chance this is true. The odds are probably more like 1%. The Steelers and Ravens have been the best defensive teams of the last 5 years and both of them have been out of the top 10 at least once in that span. The Jets, BTW, ranked 1st in yards allowed in 2009, 3rd in 2010 and 5th in 2011. They've been declining a bit each season despite adding major reinforcements at CB.
What if the Colts don't know Luck is a sure thing? What if they'd rather trade down a few slots and pick up somebody like Griffin and a boatload of other stuff and play Manning for a year or two until Griffin is ready to play and Manning is ready to retire? Is Andrew Luck > Peyton Manning + Robert Griffin III + a couple of 1st round picks?
In 2011 we had to have two UDFA start @ OLB, lost our starting safety, and had another no name scrub udfa @ safety. Our defense was decimated by injuries this year
The defense will most likely have a new face at SS and Maybin will have a full offseason to improve and put on a few extra LBs. I cant see Wayne Hunter being brought back as a starter. Even with the current Oline, Manning alone makes the entire unit better. His football IQ is just off the charts and he can read defense like no other. His Oline in Indy isnt anything to brag about. Peyton just makes them look good like he would our Oline. The defense alone would make sure this team wins more than 4 games. Even if it drops to around 10ish...
Did you guys not watch the Colts last year? Peyton can single-handedly carry any team. The Jets have a half-decent team, add Peyton and we are a real threat. The risk comes for Rex and Tanny is that their fate would be tied to Peyton. If they fail with Peyton, they will be fired. Peyton would probably be here for 3-5 seasons which is enough time to get the job done.
The only way Peyton leaves Indy is either he doesn't want to play there or he physically can not play football anymore because the owner already said he loves Peyton and wants Peyton to remain a Colt for the rest of his career.
If Peyton wants to play another 3-5 years its not going to happen if they drafted Luck #1 overall. And considering how bad they suck without Peyton theyre not passing on the next Peyton for their next 15 + years
I love Manning, but I would be so pissed if we acquired him and let Sanchez go. Sanchez will have a monster year next season.
Yes it will happen because hes the best QB in the history of the NFL, I don't even think they are going to draft Luck I'm leaning on them trading the pick for the 3 1st rounders and 2 2nd round picks for it so they can actually build a team not reliant on amazing QB play. Anybody stupid enough to think Luck would have any success with Indy's current roster is nuts, as much as people like to compare Luck to Peyton there is no comparison and hes not going to magically turn the Colts back to Superbowl shape. I'm thinking they draft a QB in the later rounds and have that QB sit behind Peyton for a few years until Peyton is ready to retire.
Its tough, ill be happy if we go either route. The one thing I dont want to see is someone like Matt Flynn starting, cant believe people are suggesting that....
