Everybody seems to want different players this offseason and there doesn't seem to be as much cohesiveness with everyone's opinion like say 2010 when we all wanted Kyle Wilson. So I'd like to gauge where the board is at collectively regarding our 1st round prospects. If your prospect isn't listed up here then explain your choice in the thread. I'm keepin this to realistic options, not like Blackmon or RG3.
DeCastro will be a stud for a long time along the Oline. Moore is old and on the way out. Probly my favorite if available. Both Floyd and Jefferies should be able to provide a big target for Mark long term if taken. WR in this draft seems like a must, but we may wait till later. Upsahw is a complete 34 OLB, Ingram and Perry have very interesting potential there as well. I really want one of those 6. A mix of them should be available at 16.
Three different players at three different positions Id be more than pleased with: At WR Michael Floyd, he's a dynamic WR with excellent hands, great size, and superb body control. The only thing that comes into question is his speed. IMO his 40 time could have a huge impact in his draft stock. BTW, I'd love to get Jeffrey over Floyd but I think where we are at is right around Floyds stock, Alshon should be long gone. At OLB Courtney Upshaw, this kid is one hell of a talent, he is crazy strong, has a great bull rush, collapses the pocket frequently, and rarely misses tackles. He's a complete OLB and also should be right around 16. At OT Jonathan Martin, yeah he's suppose to be a LT prospect but I think he can also do well at RT . His stock is about Top 15 so it would be cutting it close but he could be there. Imo he's a can't miss tackle prospect and would sure up this line for years. I'd certainly be excited about drafting. I wanted to add Burfict but I think Rex has too much pride in Bart to not keep him as a starter. I understand just how good Burfict could be on this team but Rex seems to hold a lot of pride in his loyalty. Especially one of the bigger motivators and vocal leaders on this team
Burfict to me is still my number 1 choice if all these players were still on the board. DeCastro is a very close second. Imagining Burfict and Harris next to one another for the next 5 years makes me cum with excitement. We all know about his temper and over-aggresiveness but I believe that he would be an instant stud in our D. Upshaw to me seems solid but IMO just doesn't have the speed we need for our D. Mercilus looks like a better prospect for what our D needs in our OLB than Upshaw does. Granted he'll have to work on learning to control the edge and his run support but his power and explosiveness is exactly what we're lacking. We're def goin to have to go OLB next year as well if we don't double-dip this year as Pace is gone for sure after next season. I want an Orakpo/Kerrigan type OLB duo and Mercilus would go much further in accomplishing that than Upshaw does. I'm not very good at watching and evaluating OL prospects from what I've seen and read DeCastro is this year's Dareus, which means safest pick in the draft. I'm always cool with that and he'd fill a need big time. I'd move Slauson to RG and let DeCastro man the LG position for the next 10+years. Let Moore and Slauson battle in camp actually for RG and loser provides solid depth. Jeffrey while a big target with elite body control just doesn't scream superstar to me like Michael Floyd does. If both were on the board at 16 I'd prefer Floyd. But that's more of personal choice over any sort of stats and observations. I'm interested to see both at the Combine.
I really don't understand some of you guys. Wanting to take an OG at #16?? To most draftniks that's considered heresy. It's even worse when you consider the fact that the Jets already have 2 first rounders on the OL, and consider their lack of speed and playmaking ability on both sides of the ball. That's what first rounders are for...playmakers and speed. The Jets have had practically no pass rush. That is their biggest need. Period.
...and running backs rarely see the top ten. Except this year where Richardson is pegged to go. Its about the over all talent and DeCastro is the best guard to come out in a long while. In years past inertior linemen did not go in round one or get big FA money. Thats shifted over the last decade and more and mroe interior lineman are going in the first. DeCastro is one of 3 guards that could go inthe first this season. Yes I would love speed and talent at receiver and OLB, but DeCastro would shore up an aging Right guard spot and at a very high level from Day one. As I stated there are also several WR and OLB's that I like. As for the number of first round Picks. The apts have 2 first rounders and a High second startign on thier line. Lets face it, you build from the line out and our Line has stepped back this year. Moore is aging and hunter is not a fukll time starter. We need someone there as bad as anywhere else.
Realistically I went with Jeffery. If infact Schotty is comming back we need all the help we can get on offense. The fact that their are a few solid pass rush prospects in the 2nd and 3rd round solidifies that. No if Schotty does leave I would be more inclined for a guy like Mercilus
I went with Mercilus. This team desperately needs a pass rush. Do you guys think that Burfict could slip down to us in the second? He had a bad year. Hell he wasn't even starting at the end of the year.
Little shocked at the fact only one person chose Johnathan Martin. He'd be an elite RT for our line and could possibly do more for us than Decastro could. I'd still take Decastro over him but still a little surprising to me
Martin is going to be a top 10 pick, I dont know if I would describe that as realistic pick. Though if he is available we shouldnt hesitate to take him
From what I've been hearing is that his value has dropped into the mid-teens area. Sure he could absolutely still go top-10 but now it may not be a guaranteed certainty. That's why I added him into the list.
I think its still realistic. Here's the order and who I think will/should be picked(* means a tie) 1. Indianapolis Colts (2-14) Andrew Luck 2. St. Louis Rams (2-14) Justin Blackmon 3. Minnesota Vikings (3-13) Matt Kalil 4. Cleveland Browns (4-12) Trent Richardson (Could go Blackmon as well) 5. Tampa Bay Buccaneers (4-12) Mo Claiborne 6. Washington Redskins (5-11) RG3 7. Jacksonville Jaguars (5-11) Alshon Jeffery 8. Carolina Panthers (6-10) * Quinton Coples 9. Miami Dolphins (6-10) * (Could trade down at this point) Landry Jones 10. Buffalo Bills (6-10) Courtney Upshaw 11. Kansas City Chiefs (7-9)* Dre Kirkpatrick (Could take Martin for sure but supposedly their forum says CB over OT.) 12. Seattle Seahawks (7-9)* Zach Brown 13. Arizona Cardinals (8-8) Whitney Mercilus (Could also take Martin) 14. Dallas Cowboys (8-8) Alfonzo Dennard 15. Philadelphia Eagles (8-8) Vontaze Burfict 16. New York Jets (8-8) Jonathan Martin/Michael Floyd/David Decastro/Riley Reiff Just some picks off the top of my head. There are two in front of us that could definitely take him from us BUT we have a great shot at the kid for sure IMO.
A lot of "draft nicks" on another site i visit have us going OL in the first. Edit. I think last year (maybe in 09) we had 5 first round picks on the line. Could be wrong.
We have to go OL in the first round, anything that can solidify our running game and pass protection. What does it matter if we have a defense that can get the offense tha ball back if we go three and out and give it right back? We need to sustain drives and keep the opposing defense on the field as long as possible, and the only way to do that is with a strong Oline.
Just saw this mock draft on Fox sports 16. New York Jets: Mark Barron, Safety, Alabama: Jets fans are far more concerned about the quarterback position this week, but safety was a sore spot all year, too. Offensive tackle is an area of need, as well, but after the first offensive tackles on the board this year, there’s a significant drop-off. I can’t see New York reaching. Barron’s a tough-nosed hitter who can make an impact in the pass coverage game, too. He can start right away. Get him in green IMO I think he would be a good start to the offseason Because TE killed us all year but the Jets need alot of help.
Jets should really try to address the lack of speed at linebacker and WR in the draft and address RT and safety in free agency. From everything I've read the Jets will not find a safety early in the draft they can slide into the starting lineup. I don't have any interest in drafting a right tackle in the first round. That position needs to be solidified with a known quantity. Draft: OLB/ILB, WR, TE Free Agency: Offensive line and safety upgrade.
Thats the nice way of saying it. Barron would be a reach at the end of rounf one let alone the middle. If we address S in the draft it needs to be roound 2 or later.
