But you can't have it both ways. You can't put up penningtons numbers and claim schotty sucks because he had career lows. Then by that logic Sanchez had career highs under schottys system so since you're basing this strictly on numbers.
Yes you can because Chad had career highs in another system. Sanchez has only seen Schotty's system so saying Sanchez put up career highs only under Schotty is completely misleading.
With shotty = last full year under the shitty shotty system After shotty = first full year out of the grasp of the shotty system. Chad Pennington with shotty: 3352 yards 17 tds 16 ints after shotty: 3653 yards 19 tds 7 ints 8% increase in yards 11% increase in touchdowns 56% decrease in interceptions Brett Favre with shotty: 3472 yards 22 tds, 22 ints after shotty: 4202 yards 33tds, 7 ints 21% increase in yards. 50% increase in touchdowns. 32% decrease in interceptions
Umm Chad was very limited in his final Jet years. How can you deny that? The year he had in Miami was amazing but he was still just a game manager. He won the same way he won with us in 06. Good reads and smart accurate (short) throws. He basically had the exact same year (but with a better running game) right down to being exposed in the playoffs. Sanchez cant even be relied on to be a game manager half the time.
And with all those flaws, he won 4 road playoff games and was NOT the reason we lost in either of the 2 AFCCGs. And he beat Tom Brady and Bill Belichick in Foxboro. The talent is there, the consistency is NOT.
I'm not claiming that. I'm claiming (no, pointing out...this is just based on facts) both Favre and Pennington had higher interception rates, lower completion percentages and lower touchdown numbers than they had one year after getting out of his system. Furthermore, I'm pointing out that Pennington had a much better touchdown to interception ratio away from shotty than he did with shotty. No. By that logic, Sanchez's high turnover ratio could be expected to improve if he gets away from Brian Schottenheimer
I also find it funny that Sanchez gets so much credit for the playoff success over the last two years but Shotty is never mentioned. Wern't they both here? Arn't those Shotty's wins also? Its called blinders people.
NY Jets 2006 O scoring rank 18th. 2008 Dolphins scoring rank 21 Brett Favre last 6 years in the NFL average td's 22 average INT's 23. Under Shotty 22 and 22. Stats are a bitch. Anyone who didn't think our O played well with Pennington in 06 during the season and with Favre in 08 prior to his arm going is a liar.
If you can credit schotty as the defacto reason for Brett and Chad having career lows, then why is it misleading to credit schotty for Sanchez "career highs"? It has to go both ways.
Because we are comparing those career lows to another system and their stats in that system. If players spend their whole career under one coach their going to have their lows there also. If you want to argue for Sanchez's career highs under Schotty then argue he had career lows under Schotty also. Its a pointless argument under one OC because its always going to go into a circle. We are comparing Chad and Favre under Schotty and then to another system. This is why using Sanchez does not work because he is not in another system to compare to Schottys system.
Another good post. I took another step in this evaluation: 2006 TD / INT - 17 / 16 2007 TD / INT - 15 / 19 2008 TD / INT - 22 / 23 2009 TD / INT - 12 / 21 2010 TD / INT - 20 / 14 2011 TD / INT - 26 / 18 I think Schotty is really holding Sanchez back. Despite Schotty's ineptness at running an offense Sanchez has had some success. Get rid of Schotty and give Sanchez a legit target (like he had with Braylon) and watch Sanchez explode next year.
But why was he so uncharacteristically turnover-prone in the two Schotty years? Those are the ONLY two years where he played at least half a season and had such poor INT numbers. Just a coincidence? Also, his yards per attempt were the lowest of his career those two years. These are the same problems plaguing Sanchez right now. Turns the ball over too much in a dink-and-dunk passing game. The OC has nothing to do with this?
To clarify, in seasons where we had injured QBs, is that the overall of all QBs or the QB that played the most snaps/starts that season?
So how do you explain Schotty's failures with Pennington, Favre, Clemens, and Drew Brees? Didn't think so.
Sure, you can cherry pick random stats to try to make a point. I'm simply pointing out without shotty and with. I'll let everyone else judge. Sure. We can give it the eye test. But did they play well because of Shotty, or in spite of him. Or, did Shotty get the best out of a future hall of fame QB (Favre) and the most accurate Quarterback to ever play in the NFL? I'd say no, based on their performances before and after shotty. In fact, I'd say Shotty's system made them worse.
Maybe if you actually read the thread you would know. (Clemens - really) BTW - Sanchez is in no way shape or form Favre Brees or Pennington. But you can keep dreaming once we change OCs he will be.
But...you just posted that our Offense in '06 ranked 18th in scoring. And they were 25th in yards per game. That's not playing well. In fact, Schotty's offenses have finished 20th or lower in yards per game in 4 of 6 years.
