^^^ THIS. I am not a Sanchez lover, but he's played pretty well when it really counts. You can't deny he's played big in big games and he didn't crumble or be a negative on 6 road playoff games. I hate being redundant cause it doesn't add to the intelligence, but you can't disregard Sanchez until he's under another OC and system.
Stafford is a better player when he's on the field but the quality you want most in your QB is availability and behind this O line this season Stafford would be in a body cast.
Stafford had a much higher ceiling coming out of the draft than Sanchez and I believe that still holds true. He has all the tools to be a great QB in this league and has an absolute cannon for an arm. Not only can he make all of the throws, but many QB's in this league couldn't dream of making some of the throws that Stafford can make. The kid still has tremendous upside. He has only started 24 games as a pro and has played unbelievably when he's on the field. I would take the upside on him over the risk of injury 10/10 times.
Stafford also has the best wr in football right now. If Mark had Calvin Johnson to throw to he would be putting up better numbers.
Stafford's shoulder is an issue for me. Other than that I would be very happy to trade them for each other and get Stafford. Not that I'm unhappy with Sanchez I just see a much better upside.
This. I love Sanchez, I'm happy with him as our quarterback, I think he'll eventually be regarded as one of the greatest Jets of all time...but Stafford looks like a guy with the potential to become one of the great, pure passers in the game. His shoulder injuries are a bit scary, but he seems to have put them in his rearview mirror this season. Offered Stafford straight up for Sanchez, I'd have to do that deal.
And Stafford has led his team back from 17+ point deficits 3 times this season. Noone else in history has done that. And you can blame the OC for shitty plays, yes, but he isn't forcing Sanchez to throw the ball into double coverage constantly, not ever play only has 1 WR running a route from the endzone like his most recent INT, and he doesn't make Sanchez any less accurate than he is.
2 of the 3 teams are Vikings (2-9) and Panthers (2-8) - stellar teams, right? I'll give them credit for the comeback against the Cowboys. Sanchez has beaten Brady, Manny, Palmer, & Rivers on the road (No other QB past/present have won 4 playoff games on the road either)...Nacho over Stafford any day of the week
The reason I'd take Stafford is because I think he's better with his pre/post snap reads. It's not all CJ just like Mark's success isn't all defense, OL, or running game.
Sanchez' 4th quarter comebacks include: DEN, DET, CLE, HOU in 2010 SD, BUF in 2011 All of those teams were horrid during the season listed. I'll give him props for PIT in 2010 and Dallas this season, they both were/appear to be above average teams. But if you want to discredit Stafford for overcoming 17+ point deficits because of the team then you must also look at the level of competition and the number of points actually needed that Sanchez came back from. edit: misread some info, the amount of TD/FG sanchez provided could be off. regardless, I still cannot think of a game where Sanchez came back from more than 1 score, might be wrong there, though. removed that part.
I agree, they weren't stellar teams either, but i wasn't trying prove the sanchez is a better comeback kid than stafford. I'm saying i would take nacho over stafford b/c of what he's done in the playoffs. i would like to stafford do as well in the playoffs b4 i would ever pick him over sanchez
Well you can bump a lot of threads to make people look silly today. This thread started in 2009 when neither one of them had proven a thing. Hell you could make the case that going into this year you'd take Sanchez over Stafford, coming off of two AFCC appearances for Sanchez and a career of not being able to stay on the field for Stafford. But yeah after this year it looks stupid.
