I can see this happening, considering the ridiculous loyalty they showed him. They'll sit around waiting for his failure trying to get a HC job, while allowing the best candidates to replace him to get hired elsewhere, then they will either stick with him or fire him too late and hire a replacement that is an even worse fit.
