The number one, top dog, super number order of the day for our offense is CONSISTENCY!!!!!!!!! This offense has lacked consistency for the last 3 years. It starts with the Coordinater (see the coaches thread) and lands squarely on Sanchez's shoulders. I've seen a lot of threads about Holmes et al...but honestly...if we had Andre Johnson or Calvin Johnson...I don't care who...with the consistency this offense has shown we, still, are a 53% completion team with the same problems. Is it all on the QB? No...a good percentage, yes, but all no. Schotty's un-canny ability to call a disjointed game, at best, is as good as any of a point to start. When there is no logical rhyme or reason in your play calling as well as predictability then you set the table against yourself all the time. To not understand your quarterbacks limitations and what he excels at sets you up for failure. Has anyone noticed that Sanchez appears to play better OUT of the pocket? Boot legs...rolling left and right. Where are those plays, consistently, in a drive? Not only that but it does open up the play action when it comes time for that...of which, Sanchez is top 5, in my book, as a play action QB. The running game will reap the benefits as well. Few stacked "boxes" for our guys to run against etc... Sanchez has GOT to get better with his decision making process. I don't know, at this point, if it's coaching or preparation. I'm betting coaching...why? Because you never read about Sanchez being the first to leave the building. On the contrary, apparently he is a fabulous teammate and puts in the work. The question remains is he seeing the right type and amount of coaching? He is never going to have a rocket arm but I've seen enough to know that the 20 and 30 yard throws are well within his capability and should be consistently sprinkled in throughout every game. The announcers of the last game hit the nail on the head at one point when they said there is no fear of the Jets going down field so why defense for that. What a waste of someone like Plaxico's talents. Edwards too, for those that want him back. For any big receiver with vertical abilities. Coaching, also, can and would help with his accuracy problems. Where is the coaching for that? Summation: Outside of getting offensive line depth, which is the NUMBER 1 key, Sanchez must be the priority once a new Offensive Coordinator is hired. <------that HAS to happen. Someone needs to sit down and decide is Sanchez the future? Can he be worked with and made to be a serviceable and average/above average QB in this league? Right now he is below average/border line average. If he can not be worked with then who? Is McElroy someone who might be an answer. His pre-season work, in my eyes, says he should be given a shot...but I'm no QB guru. Is there someone in the draft? A FA available. Personally, I would look at a couple of guys. I think the debate about bringing Tomlinson back is moot. I saw a guy running his ass off in the last game. He's got plenty in the tank to be our 3rd down back. I'd pay him $2 million to do so...veteran minimum my ass. His leadership alone is worth it. In fact I see no real need to change our backfield now that I think about it. Greene, Tomlinson and McKnight work for me for next year. Holmes attitude needs to be addressed, that I absolutely agree with. BUT, he is a premier WR and anyone who doesn't think so needs to have their head examined. He was NOT utilized properly in this offense. Period. Add Sanchez's accuracy problems into the mix and there you have it. We do need to address the #2 spot as while I would be fine with Burress as maybe a one more year option, I would rather see them bring in a 1A prospect. Keep Kerley and Turner and utilize all of them better! Offensive line...depth, depth and more depth. Key number one priority for the off season. That includes TE. Keller is fine...we need someone other than "false start" Mulligan. The entire right side of the line needs to be re-done.
Interesting read, but I just have no faith in Sanchez at this point - he apparently prepares really well, is a really hard worker and good team mate, but when he gets out on the field he just makes so many really really awful decisions that you would expect a 4th stringer suddenly called into action to make - not someone starting games now for a full 3 years and on top of that he throws the ball badly, constantly behind his targets or gets passes tipped. he just seems really bad now i freely admit not to be an expert and there are probably lots of things i am not seeing, but what i do see depresses the hell out of me considering how much we have invested into this player
I want Tomlinson back. I understand that he probably won't be but I think it'd be a mistake not re-signing him
I am intent to agree with both of you. I WANT Tomlinson back and personally feel we will NEED him back and his leadership in what is going to be a very tumultuous off season. On Sanchez...he is very maddening. End of story. I do believe, if given the chance, he deserves an opportunity with a different offensive coaching staff if it comes to that.
Why is the defense getting such a pass for this mess? It seems they didn't stop anybody all year when the game was on the line.
for one, Sanchez isnt going anywhere. It is obvious he will start next season but this time if he sucks midway through, hes done (benched for the backup, whoever that is, will step in). The Jets will do their best to keep L.T, especially after this whole Holmes drama that has unfolded. The Jets need leaders and L.T is one and must to stick around. Plax, although has been slow, has shown a lot more heart than Holmes this season. Especially in the last game of the season. Throwing blocks and actually running routes effectively unlike Holmes. If the Jets can keep him around while also picking up a legit number 2 WR, that would be a plus because Plax is mostly effective in the redzone and should be used in the RZ only. He would also be cheap to keep around.
Fire Shotty, release Mark Sanchez, get Matt flynn or Peyton Manning, Replace Plax with a speed receiver and theres our offense.
LT has more heart in his pinky toe than Santonio Holmes. I don't know if I'm more pissed that Holmes is such a douche or what an absolutely idiotic move it was to make him a Team Captain.
I want Tomlinson back as well, as I do think he has enough left in the tank and is another leader we can't lose. Problem is we used 2 fourth round picks on average running backs who are staying on the roster and I think its becoming more apparent Greene should not be our everydown back. Think its possible we'd look to trade Greene? I continue to believe LeMichael James would be an amazing addition who plays bigger than his size, and could probibly be had round 2. Trade Greene for a round 3, draft LeMichael, keep LT, and hope Powell can be what Greene was in his first year.
First off, I'm not so sure Woody Johnson beleives in Sanchez anymore. I don't. Sanchez has become Chad Pennington but with less accuracy and less on field smarts, not to mention leadership and being able to command the huddle. Noodle arm. WJ likes to make big moves. I wonder what he'll do after this debacle in Miami. Holmes clearly has to go. Keeping LT around will not right this ship. Letting go of other team leaders like T Jones and Cotch were big mistakes, and should we talk about how badly this FO has drafted lately? This FO repeated the mistakes of Herm. No backup C. Throwing in a so what ORT and thinking they can still ground and pound. Hunter is beyond awful. Maybin, afdter being cut by both the Bills AND the Jets is our best pass rusher. How pathetic is that? Matt Moore looked like a better QB than the Taco today.
We need LT back. He won't help out that much on offense, but in the locker room he is greatly needed. He is the ONLY leader this team has. Not Sanchez, Holmes, Revis, Scott, Harris, Mangold, Brick or anyone else on this team. LT is the only leader that gets how to lead his team and control a locker room. If you are going to keep guys like Cro and Holmes who are diva's, then you need guys that can put them in their place when they get out of line. Its as simple as that. Pay him what he wants. He is a needed back.
So now you are a Flynn fan??? Flavor the week??? You don't realize that Flynn's game today says more about the Packers offense then it does about Flynn. Funny how easy the game looks when you have a well coached offense with tons of weapons.
100% agree about bringing back Tomlinson. Let's not lowball by offering him the minimum. The guys pick up the blitz, is a grate pass catcher, and still can be effective in the run game as long as he is not the feature back.
fix the Ol and the O is instantly fixed, also some continuity w/ WRs and our QB would be nice instead of changing every year. I'd love Plax back and to get Braylon. That would be huge for the development of our QB. We need a RT in the worst way, make these moves and our O is a top 10 O next year.
Would like to bring LT back. Seems to make good decisions when blocking on passing downs. It's rare that a blitzer blindsides Sanchez on 3rd and long & LT just whiffs on the protection. LT also has good hands & Mark doesn't have the best accuracy/touch on short passes. My guess is that LT is not gonna require a big contract. $1.5-2.5 Million should be enough to bring him back.
And he is a 'friend' of Sanchez which is most important if you want to continue with mark at the helm. He cannot battle the huddle as well as struggling in the game.
only one thing is required to improve the Jet offense GET RID OF OUR moron offensive coordinator hopefully Mr Johnson orders that to happen TODAY
