After watching that 58 yard fg, I thought the Jets have had huge amount of 50+ fg attempts made against them the past few years. I checked to see if that was correct and it is... 2011 - 6/7 2010 - 2/2 2009 - 0/0 2008 - 2/2 2007 - 1/1 Over the past 5 years teams are 11/12 from 50+ yards!!!! Now I know why I keep saying to myself that these long fgs are always good. Incidently, this year opposing teams are a fantastic 27/28 (96%) in fg attempts!!!
There isn't a single kicker in the NFL -- and I bet going back to 1970 there aren't more than 1 or 2 in NFL HISTORY !!! -- who have that kicking % overall and from 50-yards. That we have it combined with every other kicker we play is bizarre. Almost as bizarre as the RZO data I posted (see thread).
Remember when we blocked like six kicks two years ago to get into the AFC Championship game? I think this is karma.
Bad decision-making, not bad luck, is the reason why the Jets lead the league in a more important statistic: Opponents' points off turnovers. But yes the long FG's does seem a bit bad karma.
I thought another poster in another thread said kickers missed 1 FG all year against the Jets. If true, that's crazy considering all the 50+ yarders.
