While line coach Bill Callahan does not have a contract beyond this season, the drama will center around offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer, who this year signed a two-year, $3.2 million extension through 2013. As Rex Ryan said this week, Scottenheimer may get a head coaching job, but if he doesn't, sources say the Jets will strongly consider Norv Turner and Josh McDaniels to replace him as coordinator if either is available.
Either of those two would make me very happy! Particularly Turner, but I don't see him working with the big mouth who insulted him.

I think that is a legit concern with turner, but personally I'm not sure if it's that big, because Rex immediately called Norv and apologized. I think Rex has a lot of respect for Norv and I think that will definitely help in trying to get him to NY.
McDaniels is going to have to ripen on the vine for a bit longer before he gets another shot at a head coaching job. Running Cutler out of town in Denver was a huge heads up for potential employers. You never hire a guy who might cause your talent to leave suddenly in a manner that reflects poorly on the organization. He'll get another job at some point but people will want to know that he's not going to come in throwing bombs all over the place on the way in the door.
I don't think that's even remotely close to an issue. It was a silly thing that the media and fans made more of than two grown men probably did. I think Turner is the right guy. McDaniels could end up back in NE if there OC goes to the Penn State job.
if we even make the playoffs it will have been in spite of him, so i doubt even a playoff run will save him if hes not already severely handcuffed at this point.
I would die to have Josh McDaniels here, it would make sense for him too. If he's able to turn Sanchez into a good QB he'll get a HC job somewhere, if not he can blame it on Sanchez's shortcomings and try again elsewhere. Norv would be great too.
Turner please, the Wade Phillips of offense. An incredible coordinator, but when it comes to controlling the entire whole of the football operations, offense, defense, special teams, and leading 53 men and a dozen or so coaches, he seems to be slightly in over his head.
I like either choice. Both great OC's, and can't really carry the burden of being a head coach. Plus if they turn Sanchez around, jobs galore.
I would not have thought that a guy with an ego like mcdaniels would want to go back to NE with his tail between his legs.
Someone else can probably speak to this much better than I can, but from my understanding McDaniels system comes from completely different roots than Turners. Turners will be a lot more familiar to Sanchez and the rest of the offense and make for an easier transition. Give me Turner please.
McDaniels made scrubs like Orton and Cassel look like Pro Bowlers, he can do the same thing with Sanchez, a much younger and more talented QB
Holy shit sounds like our coach right( Not to be a down but... IJS )? Were gonna turn into the 85 bears where the team is divided in 2 and compete aganist one another and I think this would be best for the future

You have to remember though that the offenses he did this with were the spread that New England has popularized at the same time that it's defense has declined badly. The spread is like a slightly less frenetic version of the run and shoot that Mouse Davis used to run and it's not conducive to long runs in the playoffs because it gasses it's own defense way too much and it is overly reliant on having the QB excel in order to win. I'd rather see a more vertical attack installed with a heavy emphasis on running the ball to bring the safeties up in run support. Something like the Ravens and Steelers offenses for much of the last decade.
Norv Turner would be awesome honestly but don't see it happening. I have my doubts about McDaniels though.
Norv, like any offensive coach is great with a Hall Of Fame caliber QB, Troy Aikmen and Philip Rivers. Without them his offenses are 11th, 15th, 24th, 17th. 21st, and 26th. In Washington he was 17, 18, 9, 16, 15, 2, and 11. Not exactly great. You would be better off keeping Shotty, fill in the gaps on your OL, and pounding the football again.
There's just no way the Jets are better off next season bringing Schotty back for his 7th season without a clear top 10 offense anywhere in the first 6. You can argue that the talent hasn't been here and you might be right but the history is still what it is: the Jets have been nothing special on offense since they hired a very young offensive coordinator in his first shot at the role in 2006. It's possible that Schotty will turn into a good offensive coordinator somewhere else but the way the NFL (and any competitive environment for that matter) works is that he needs to move on from here after not succeeding for the length of time he has.
