draft 1. zach brown olb north carolina 2.mark barron ss alabama 3.markelle martin fs oklahoma state 4.joe adams wr arkansas 5. blair walsh k georgia 6.jeff demps rb florida 7.drew butler p georgia zach brown gives us the edge pass rusher we have lacked since john abebram departed. love courtney upshaw but doubt he drops to us. safety play was atrocious this year and im sick of bringing in vets at the position ala sam garnes and steve atwater that shit the bed and have to be cut after a year. this is why although unconventional i draft safeties in rounds 2 and 3. also you dont need me to tell you that this is becoming more and more of a passing league so it doesnt hurt to have 2 studs back there. much has been said about the lack of explosiveness on this offense which is why have us taking joe adams and jeff demps later on in the draft who are amongst the fastest at their positions in this draft. folk digressed this year and i dont think anyone was happy with the job conley did either. we bring in the best kicker and punter to help shore up our special teams. i know i did not address the rt position but we already tried filling that void through the draft and we flopped with big vlad. Free Agency RT Kareem McKensie: we cant sign a huge money guy for the rt position cause we already have big bucks tied up with brick and mangold but big reem is a great value buy here. we bring him back on a 2-3 year deal while we continue to groom vlad ducasse. this brings stability back to the line with a proven vet. WR Braylon Edwards: prob clicked with sanchez most out of any reciever we've had. acheived success here did shit last year so will come back on the cheap. QB Sage Rosenfels: gives us a capable backup that isnt a senior citizen. Resign Brodney Pool: knows the system dont have a problem signing him to a one year deal to backup the youngns. Sione Pouha: throw him 2-3 years. hugely underated guy that will hold the fort while we figure out what we have in kendrick ellis. Aaron Maybin: pass rushing specialist/depth for aging/injury prone calvin pace. jamal westerman: good lb depth/special teamer. donald strickland: good backup knows system maurcice cole: good special teams/depth guy. robert turner: line depth capable backup patrick turner: progessing nicely Cut Wayne Hunter: dont even want him back as a backup ill take the cap savings Eric Smith: atrocious year. 2 mil in cap savings if cut. see ya. Final Roster QB: Sanchez,Rosenfels,Mcelroy RB:Greene,Mcknight,Powell,Demps FB: Conner OT:Brick,Mckensie,Ducasse,Howard C:Mangold OG:Moore,Slauson,Turner,Schlauderaff TE:Keller,Cumberland,Baker WR:Holmes,Edwards,Kerley,Adams,Turner NTouha,Ellis,Tevasau DE:Wilkerson,Devito,Pituitua,Dixon ILB:Harris,Scott,Muaga,Bellore, OLBace,Jones, Maybin, Westerman,Mcintyre CB:Revis,Cromartie,Wilson,Strickland,Cole,Trufant FS:Martin,Pool SS:Barron,Wilson K:Walsh P:Butler
I like Jarvis Jones (out of Georgia btw) but he has already said he intends to go back to school. As for the rest of the mock, don't love it. Taking a kicker and a punter would drive me crazy
At this point I agree. Jones is still raw. But he does have a lot of potential and I expect him to go very high next year Edit: And the reason I was talking about Jones was the OP originally had him mocked in the draft. I know he is not declaring
Mock aint so bad, Zach Brown isnt really a 3-4 OLB but more of a 4-3 OLB. I like Barron and Martin but not at the rounds you draft them in, I could see 3rd and 4th round not 2nd and 3rd, honestly. Also, I dont know how good Id feel about putting two rookies at starting safety, that would be a bit to much for our D to handle and could force the squad to take a step back. Which is exactly what we dont need. Another thing, Folk has been decent, a rookie wouldnt do better than him, as well as Conley. I dont like TJ but a rookie punter wouldnt come in and do any better. Lastly, we dont need another late round RB, its either extreme value with Trent Richardson or a Vet.
Like WW85 said, starting 2 rookie safeties would be potentially devastating. Also, I don't want to spend a 5th round pick on a kicker....we have other needs.
I believe we sign a cheap FA RB such as Jason Snelling. He is a great player but knows he hasn't done enough to earn the big bucks. Then we sign a blocking TE and were stacked @ TE depth with Keller, Carlson (the one I hope we sign), Cumberland, and Baker
does anyone know tannys address kinda want to send this to him also my friend taped his jets drive in madden and would like to send a copy to shotty
Sorry, dude but not in love with this at all. I'd probably wonder if Tanny was in a coma during the offseason. The only draft pick I am lukewarm to is Martin in the 3rd round. Zach Brown is a full time 4-3 OLB. I'm with you on Braylon Edwards. I'm OK w/Rosenfels. No interest in McKenzie --- none at all. The guy has 1 more average season at best in him.
Not really a fan of this mock offseason. 1st of, Zach Brown is a 4-3 OLB, and there will be plenty of other better prospects- Upshaw, Melvin Ingram, Mercillus, Jenkins, Alshon Jeffery, Michael Floyd, Riley Rieff, Birfict and Decastro. Second, like Johnny said, 2 starting rookies who are overdrafted would definitely hurt this team A LOT. IMO, the best thing we can do is have smith take a pay cut so he can play special teams and 46 packages, resign Jimmy to a real cheap contract, and sign Micheal Griffin or Dashon Goldston. Im not a fan of not drafting any OL at all. Just not a good idea. I want to draft a RT in the high rounds and would rather help the line get younger, not older. I like the other signings (especially Edwards)... Not terrible, but I wouldnt be real happy if this happened.
Well we've seen that starting two slow white safeties is also devastating. We need players with NFL speed in the backend.
But throwing in two rookie safeties in a defense that asks the safeties to make a lot of pre-snap reads/calls, its not a smart move. The best option for this team is to sign a FA safety, and possibly draft another in the middle rounds... There's about 3-4 safeties hitting the open market and Tanny has to make a move at one of them. Im not against drafting a safety and starting him, just mainly starting two rookies.
Funny, I don't see where I said I'd want to start two slow white safeties next year. You are aware of the magical system called free agency where you can sign players right? Starting one rookie safety is fine, but two would be terrible. Remember how bad Wilson was last year in the secondary and how everyone was screaming how he was a bust and all that jazz? What do you think would happen with TWO rookie safeties (who would more than likely not be as skilled/highly touted as wilson was) manning the back end of our D?
Exactly. Starting two safeties, despite their physical talent, in Rex's defense is a recipe for disaster... FA is the place to look fro this position.
How old is Kareem McKenzie these days? For that matter, how old is Moore? While I do like the idea of bringing back Turner for depth and a shot at a starting job our problems on OL run pretty deep. Slauson has done OK but has the luxury of playing between two pro bowl players. Moore who has been solid for us is getting older and didn't exactly have a great year next to Hunter. Just because our last OL draft pick flopped does not mean that the draft is the answer to our problems. I know most of you want to draft the next Lawrence Taylor at pick # 15 but we used pick # 6 on Gholsten and look how great that turned out. The Packers, Patriots, and Saints all used high draft picks to build their OL and we are home watching them on TV this year. If we don't want to do so next year we need to fix our OL instead of applying band aids. We didn't go to the AFC Championship beacause of our QB, our RB, or our WRs were all that great. We got there because we had an excellent defense an the best OL in the NFL (or at least top 5). Our mediocre RBs looked like pro bowlers and our QBs had clean uniforms. Against Arizona, Favre had 6TDs in one game. Coles even caught three of those passes. Now both guys aren't even in the NFL. OL - Do it!
My point was that I don't think it could be worse than what we saw this year. I didn't mean to imply that you wanted us to start those two.
dont know why you think moore didnt have a good year not only did he not give up a sack he did not even allow a man to knock down the qb this year. also yes gholston sucked but we have no choice but to draft a olb as we need a lb that can get to the qb and play every down. teams dont let players like this go via free agency and if they do they come at a tremendous price. this is why i think we draft a olb and wait for free agency to sign a good value guy like big reem who you are right is not a young guy anymore but still more than serviceable.
