for what it's worth, I think Bill Parcells and Herman Edwards did about as well with this team as Ryan as done so far. Sure he's taken the team to 1 more AFC title game than the other two coaches, but lets be real here, Parcells had to rebuild the team, to get to his AFC title game. The players that went to the title game under Rex Ryan were mostly hold overs from the Mangini team. Now, going forward, we will start to see how awesome a defensive mind Rex is as he will be getting more and more of his own drafts and free agents on the defensive roster.

You think it's smart to talk like that? True or not.

Parcells completely changed the franchise, and to this day it is relevant due to what he brought. I will always be grateful to him for that.

But he didn't finish the job. He got discouraged after an injury riddled season whre he had to get a team on the cusp of a championship to fight back from a 1-6 start after losing Vinny - and then went into the front office. And for that I will never forgive him.

Asinine? You're funny! Rex got lucky by being gifted a playoff spot two years ago, coached a talented team to the AFCCG last year, and coached a talented right out of the playoffs this year. His body of work is not quite as big as his body, and his body of work pales in comparison to his mouth.

Any way you slice it, he can't deliver on his incessant gum-flapping.

You can't spell for crap either :)

He used to make some stupid mistakes while handling the time clock. Last year's game in Indy I thought he was going to accidentally let the time run out on the last drive.

Rochesterjet is right on. You see it through the eyes of a non-Jet fan, and I'd like to know where he coached the Jets out of the play-offs last year.

Oh.....Okay....In the eyes of a Jets fan Rex can be the queen of sheeba, in the eyes of the rest of the world he talks and doesn't deliver.

    Browns fans have similar eyes:)

During his autopsy, doctors discovered that Elvis' colon contained 40 pounds of impacted feces. Your posts remind me of that.

Too many people give Rex credit for making the Jets relevant. Parcells was the one that did that. He brought back the classic uniforms and damn near got them to the SB. I still maintain the '98 team was the best Jets team I've seen. If they had gotten past Denver in the AFCCG they probably would have won the SB that year. They CRUSHED Atlanta in the regular season (28-3 I think).

The Jets have made the playoffs I think 7 times since the late '98. That's a pretty consistent, fairly successful, "relevant" organization. Granted, no SB's which blows it to hell for me, but whatever.

The other thing I hear often is Rex gave the Jets an identity. What is that exactly? Right now, any non-Jets fan I know says the Jets are a team coached by a loudmouth who makes predictions the Jets don't live up to.

I like Rex, and think the Jets can win with him, but I don't agree that he made us relevant and I really don't know what identity he has given them.

Rex's biggest flaw is that he's too fucking loyal to his coaching staff and some of his favorite players on the roster. Schottenheimer should have been gone after last year's AFC Championship game. Instead we made a lot of lateral to poor moves with our roster, gave players who don't deserve starting spots starting time, and kept Schottenheimer. He then had the gall to say that this team had the best roster he's ever coached, which everyone knew was total bullshit.

I love Rex and I think he's a great coach but he needs to get his shit together for next year. Jettison the garbage like Eric Smith, Matthew Mulligan, Schottenheimer and learn to control both sides of the team and not just the defense.

Belichick is in on EVERY meeting giving his opinions and telling people what the fuck to do. Rex needs to do the same.

Enough sugar coating and deflecting, we have a good team and we need to get to the next level.

Parcells made the Jets relevant. Herm turned that into a joke during a time when the majority of the conference was a joke, excepting a few elite teams, so he gets a pass because of some very fortunate playoff berths, followed by predictable exits.

The Jets stopped being relevant the moment the Pats walked up to them and started kicking sand in their faces.

    Rex brought sexy back.

The only thing I didn't like about Rex was the superbowl Guarantee this season, but other then that he has done a superb job all around. Why is he a loud mouth for actually setting goals for this team. We SHOULD be a superbowl contender and its not like Rex goes out his way to bash other coaches/teams in this league. All he really says is that he believes this team is better then every other which I want him to say. I hear him complement other coaches/teams all the time the NY media just blows everything out of proportion.

    oops!

Then I'd like to know how he coached a "talented" team out of the play-offs this year

    1. Who cares what the rest of the world thinks?

    2. Why would you come on a Jets board and stir up the pot?
Because someone dissed your precious Steelers?

    3. You're like a Yankee fan. Your self worth is derived from the team you root for:)

Just like its not fair to compare a 3rd year Sanchez to an 8th year Eli or Drew Brees, its extremely unfair to compare a 3rd year Rex to a 15+ year Belichek

Where was Belichek in year 3 as a head coach? For that matter, where was he until Tom Brady came on the scene?

36-44 in 5 seasons as Browns HC, 5-11 without Brady as Patriots HC.

Don't ever put Herm in the same category as Parcells and Rex.

I'll never forgive Herm for the Pittsburgh playoff game where instead of "playing to win the game," he played not to lose. We could have gone to the SB that year.

Thank you! That series where the Jets were driving and he purposely stalled the drive to give Brien a better angle for his fg attempt still haunts my dreams. He took them out of comfortable fg range and into "beyond 40" range, which had never been done on that side of that stadium.....on purpose!!!!!!
