Exactly, unless you're changing your draft strategy to go after queer looking 135 pound QB's in the 6th round please don't use Brady as an example. In year 3 I agree. Going into your rookie year it is significant experience and gives you a bit of an edge over a guy without many college starts.
Brady still sat for a year behind Bledsoe. And yes, you found one quarterback of 400 QBs drafted in the last 10 years. So that's a pretty good chance of success I'd say. Oh, about .04%
Here's OP, which sets forth the point of this thread, but it has degenerated into a thread for Pats fans to tell us that Sanchez sucks. They offer no plan, no suggested changes, no roster moves, since they obviously don't give a shit what happens to the Jets. They have offered nothing of value to this thread and are clearly trolling, but they are allowed to continue.
So you are saying Brady learned his great decision making skills, not to throw into double and triple coverage and smooth pocket presence from Drew Bledsoe?
Vick started 19 and Flacco 26 (at a low level) and Rodgers 21 and Newton 13. I'd bet anything that the number of college starts you have makes a difference on year rookie performance but oodles of good pros have less then two years of starting experience in big time colleges.
thanks to the entry of the troll, this topic has become UNREADABLE the more you respond to the troll, the more he likes it.... It's like hitting a tennis ball against a handball wall --- it just keeps coming back to you again --- and in this case the troll and the wall have roughly the same interest in having a rational football discussion
i grew up on the island, but then again, this is a football forum for all fans, not just jets fans. to be clear, i wouldn't completely classify myself a jets fan as much as just a football fan. i've lived and traveled the country and don't hold loyalties to any one team, per say. always liked the jets and remember as a kid joe willy's playing days. jets are a hard luck outfit but team owners have been a joke over the years and why i became a football fan in general. to be locked into one team and not being able to enjoy the nfl as a whole is crazy in my mind. some here take jets football to far and forget it's just a game, life goes on for most. sadly, some jets fans let it become too much of their lives and then like loyaljetsfan, get nasty when the team/qb isn't what they had envisioned. time to do some work, it's great being your own boss and getting paid while pissing some over zealous fans off. lol
go post on the boards of ALL those teams you love then, Frontrunner , not on a Jets message board of a team you obviously despise
Always? Have you always used the terms 'we' and 'our' when speaking of a team that you have 'always' claimed no true loyalty to? I didn't say 'we' when speaking in terms of the 1999 Rams, even though I enjoyed watching them and rooted for them ni the Super Bowl.
So we are 9 pages and 167 posts into this thread and not one Sanchez critic has offered up a future plan for the Jets QB position post-Sanchez. If you are going to make the argument that Sanchez is not the answer and the Jets should move on, you need to finish that argument with a concrete plan for going forward that takes into account reality - the Jets cap situation and likely draft position. It's easy to criticize without offering up the solution. OK arm chair GMs - Let's hear some names. Who is the Jets next QB and what is the long term plan?
I wouldn't say they are meaningless. Every QB is different. For Brady it meant little. For Mark it could go either way. The key here is you can't really compare QB's because they all have a different learning curve. Look at some of these guys. Eli Manning won the super bowl in his 4th year and he wasn't very good that year until the playoff run. Since he has been one of the better QB's in the league. Rich Gannon was a career journeyman never starting more than 12 games until he was 34 and had a 4 year run where he was one of the better QB's in the league. Drew Brees sat most of his first year. Was middle of the road his next two years and then in year 4 took a big step forward but it wasnt until year 6 that he became the Drew Brees we know today. Manning made some big plays his rookie year, threw for a lot of yards ,and threw a lot of touchdowns but his comp% was low and he threw 28 INT's. In his second year he made a nig jump. Rodgers sat 3 years and from the get go in year 4 he was one of the best in the league. Rivers sat 2 years. In his 3rd and 4th year he was a middle of the pack QB. Year 5 he blows up and is one of the elite QB's. You already mentioned Brady but the point here is that each guy is different. You can't say for sure when and if Sanchez will make that jump. But no one can say for sure he won't either. I want to see a new OC in here and let him play out his rookie contract before we determine if we move on.
Ehhh, if we may get back on track here, I don't want Sanchez to be gone. I still think under the right OC and QB coach that he can be fixed. Look at Alex Smith, he's finally having a solid year under a coach who's playing to his strengths and understands his limitations. Schottenheimer's system is too rigid, it allows Mark no wiggle room. He's essentially confined into this dink and dunk short pass shit. We have no variety and like I said earlier we keep putting Mark into a tough situation on every passing play. We need a coach who will take advantage of his strengths and when we do get that guy I think Sanchez will improve and really become the centerpiece of this offense, because right now he's nowhere near a "franchise QB"
football fans are football fans. this board should be for all football fans and not just jets fans. hell, the pats/giants'bills/duphin fans actually make it interesting, otherwise it would just all be jets fans whining mostly, as they are known for! did the boards originator tell you personally (jetaho) that only jets fans were allowed? because i didn't get that memo. jetaho, if you don't like it, go with the rest of the mean spirited jerks that tried to run this board like mr.E and the others.
Honestly if he's not the solution, the coaching staff has to see what they have in McElroy and then take it from there. I think if we're in a situation where we want to draft and we're 8-8 or 9-7 we'd have to trade up. I'd rather not cut Sanchez and just let him play out his contract if the dead money is going to hurt us in the long run, BUT if they wanted to get rid of him immediately that's what I would see them doing. Giving McElroy a chance and trading up if they're not in position for a QB.
Let's face facts. McElroy was a nice story in the preseason and might make a good back up, but he has a very weak arm. He is no solution to the QB issue. He was brought in to, under the best circumstances, replace Brunnel.
