Yeah, and those are about the only two. You make it seem like other college QB's are just spewing out of nowhere that are franchise QB's and are better than Sanchez. Cam Newton is a freak of nature and has more talent than 98% of the QB's in the league and Andy Dalton was a four year starter that was drafted with the best WR talent since Calvin Johnson and onto a team with a good OL, run game and defense.
QBs taken in the top 50. Only a handful of SHOWTIME guys here 2011 1 Came Newton 8 Jake Locker 10 Blaine Gabbert 12 Christian Ponder 35 Andy Dalton 36 Colin Kaepernick 2010 1 Sam Bradford 25 Tim Tebow 48 Jimmy clausen 2009 1 Matt Stafford 5 Mark Sanchez 17 Josh Freeman 44 Pat White 2008 3 Matt Ryan 18 Joe Flacco 56 Brian Brohm 57 Chad Henne 2007 1 JaMarcus Russell 22 Brady Quinn 36 Kevin Kolb 40 John Beck 43 Drew Stanton 2006 3 Vince Young 10 Matt Leinart 11 Jay Cutler 49 Kellen Clemens 2005 1 Alex Smith 24 Aaron Rodgers 25 Jason Campbell
Are the Bengal receivers that good? The Jets receivers aren't great but they aren't terrible. Let's see who else has shown more upside then Sanchez after three years. Christian Ponder. Josh Freeman Ryan FitzPatrick and TIM TEBOW!!!! (LOL) To be fair Sanchez looked better earlier on in his career but he's playing pretty bad now. A lot of it's self-confidence. I think he's lost a ton of that this year.
OK, sure, but how many of those guys are truly fearless? Maybe ESPN can come up with a rating for that. Call it QBFR or something.
DVR will tell you everything you need to know about Sanchez! Tape does not lie! He does not have heart nor the respect of his team. THAT is why Derrick Mason was let go. He called out what others were afraid to. The cracks were Shotty and Sanchez.
Maybe that's why Mason was let go, but maybe he was let go because he sucks. He has, what, 19 receptions this year? He's just not very good any more.
Let's see what cam and andy do over the next few years. Cam's team is under .500 and isn't going to the playoffs, which Sanchez did in the first year. With week 17 yet to be completed, we don't know if andy will take the bengals to the playoffs let alone afccg. They might be "better," but if they can't take their respective teams to the playoffs w/ the players they have why are they "better" than Sanchez?
I see people still like to bring up the back to back AFC championships as defense for how good Mark Sanchez is and has been. Someone even has a stat showing his playoff passer rating on the all time list. I must be the only dumb shmuck who really believes that this team got to the AFC title game in spite of Mark Sanchez, and I truly feel that we would've won at least one SB if we had a different QB in those two AFC title games. At least we would've played for a SB. I thought all along from jump, that moving up in the draft to take a unproven QB to be a "game manager" was as dumb an idea as anyone could come up with. Sanchez was drafted because the coach is arrogant and wanted to put his stamp on the team from the very first day. Lets draft a QB who will be our franchise QB for all the countless SB rings that we're gonna be collecting from our frequent trips to the White House. Knowing all along that they were looking for a "game manager" calling him a franchise QB is an oxy-moron. Franchise QB's are the kind of guys who can dictate to a defense, exploit a defense. Has a sixth sense in the pocket AND!!!! they are usually rather accurate. Any journey man QB can be a good game manager. Arrogance got the better of the coach on this one, and before long, it will cost him his job.
I'm not saying that we should've picked anyone instead of Sanchez. I'm saying that a game manager is a dumb reason to move up in the draft to select a QB 5th overall. How many games did Kellen Clemens start before it was decided he wasn't a good game manager? It wasn't about that. It was always about flash and razzle dazzle with bravado where this coach is concerned. If we were going to be a ground a pound team, we needed offensive line men, and defensive studs. Not a 5th overall QB who is a suspect game manager. And a project at QB no less
Hmmm, reminds me of Eli Manning who's putting up some pretty impressive numbers. The Giant fans were ready to run him out of town in his 4th year, claiming he sucks. Unfortunately, our fan base has the same impatient fans. Of course there are Qbs that come out of college and perform well. Is it luck? Is it not having enough tape on them? Is it the schedule? There are a myriad of factors. Sanchez is still young and I still think the CS handcuffed him a bit from day 1. He needs an OC that plays to his strengths. Lets see what happens in year 4 & 5. I'm in favor of letting him play out his rookie contract.
Kellen Clemens sucked and couldn't get a starting job with any team. Drafting a QB is not about razzle dazzle, its about making a good decision for the franchise long term sustainability. Brunell would be getting a shitload of snaps if we had drafted Stafford - its obvious he's injury prone. Should we have held on to Favre? Trade for Palmer? Josh Freeman? We needed a QB. He fit the bill the best based on our needs at the time and the decision making of the FO. I trust them more than any poster on this board.
"He has career highs in touchdown passes this season and could come close to 3,500 yards, and he also has ran for six touchdowns this season, as the Jets are the best team in the NFL at converting in the red zone." While Sanchez does have his flaws, so many people here are out to kill him. TOP NFL team in the redzone. I sure like that. 30 (6 rushing) touchdowns this year with 15 INTs, that is some serious improvement over the the past 2 years. Completion % up every year. He is getting better and better. Now we just need to work on his progressions and decision making outside the red zone and he is doing this with a sub par RT while the FO plays musical chairs with his WR. How long has Aaron Rodgers/Drew Brees been working with those same recievers?
Understood, but w/ a new regime a new qb was needed. If Rex has stated he wanted to be a pound n ground team, prior to the draft, then we shouldn't have traded up. If he didn't then drafting a qb that high, in my opinion, is fine. There have been lot of qbs drafted early in the first round have been busts, but I'm not ready to call Sanchez that just yet. I believe w/o Sanchez being at the helm, we, the Jets, wouldn't have gotten to the back to back afccg. Yes, I'm still bragging about this b/c it is very recent. I dont recall back that far, but did Rex say we are going to be ground n pound team as soon as he became a hc or after the draft was over?
I might be biased in this, but I think he said it at his introductory news conference when he got hired. I don't mind moving up in the draft to get a player, but to do so just because there is no other player available is a bad idea. Meaning, the talent at QB was weak in that draft. So, because we needed one, we traded up to get one, one with only 11 college starts to his credit. With all kinds of accuracy decision making concerns. WE would've clearly been better off giving our 1 rnd pick to another team for one of their back ups. As an option of course... But I'm sure that was looked at as well.
This is totally riduculous. The Panthers were one of the worst teams in the NFL last year. Sanchez's first year he had the #1 ranked defense and the #1 ranked running game to work with. Newton >>>> Sanchez
Sanchez is kind of a weird fit for a ground and pound team. The classic QB for a Northeast running team is a big guy with a thundercannon of an arm-a Simms/Testeverde/Bledsoe/Big Ben type-so that when you're playing in a cold outdoor game and you've set up the run well you can drive the ball through the weather halfway down the field off of play action, and so you can stand in there in the pocket under heavy pressure before launching a deep pass, knowing you're about to get smashed. Sanchez is more of a Brees-Montana type-he's an athletic guy with a nice but not remarkable arm who's at his best as a rhthym passer in a short to intermediate passing game. Totally different style for a totally different offensive system.
Why do the Jets continue to draft weak-armed QB's who can't throw deep when almost every elite QB in the last 30 years has had a canon for an arm? I know a strong arm doesn't guarantee success (Browning Nagle anyone?) but it obviously helps.
