Can someone post some stop-action photos ? I just saw the play again and I didn't realize that Smith was RIGHT ALONGSIDE CRUZ, PARALLEL TO HIM !!

I think if Smith lunges at him, he definitely forces him out of bounds....instead, it looks like he wants to get closer to push him out. Instead, Cruz passes him and then Smith lunges as the bad angle. But he had his shot a second before.

    Thoughts ???

I'm sure Rex will comment soon saying how lucky we are to have Eric Smith and the play wasn't his fault.

He would have been flagged for "launching".

Cro was busy trying to swat the ball out of his hands.

Cromartie is a stupid player, and has no heart to boot. He's like Deion Sanders only with a lot less talent. Afraid to tackle anyone. And if I see his dumb ass take a ball from 9 yards deep one more time.......t take a holding penalty because he can't defend a guy......or fumble a kick.......the list goes on with this overrated dummy.

cromo was busy trying to figure out how to avoid getting hurt by the big bad wide receiver.

how a guy who is such a fucking homo can have so many kids is beyond me.

Cromartie made a stupid play not going for the tackle but he went to a knee and got up to chase Cruz. Eric Smith had a 5 yard head start and still got burned.

Eric Smith was using his supercomputer brain to calculate the prime trajectory and velocity needed to drive the ball carrier from the field of play, and forgot to carry the one. Oopsy.

Followed by big blocker telling us we don't understand football.

I'd like a safety with NFL speed instead of an ivy league brain. Is that too much to ask?

The Jets officially have the two worst players in the league at their respective positions: Eric Smith at safety and Wayne Hunter at RT

Cruz shouldve been down way before Smith got to him. To blame Smith for actually trying to tackle (looking at f'in Cromo) is really pushing it.
I think Smith takes a lot of blame deservingly but that missed tackle is def not on him!

I'll agree with you there. It's on the two worst tackling corners on the team before it's on Smith. I think most people are just sick of seeing a safety being totally blown away by every TE, WR, RB, and Tebow. Fuckin Smith

Physically hes right on par with Deion so I disagree with that aspect but everything else hes nowhere near Deion. Deion couldn't tackle either but at least he blanketed his receivers lol. Eric Smith is a lifetime backup, anyone who disagrees is just a fucking fanboy. He has amazing work ethic but just does not have the physical attributes to play safety in the NFL(mainly speed).

Sure he should have been tackled before he got to smith, but as the last line of defense he should have at least have been there to attempt to wrap him up. It looked like they were in simple man coverage with 2 safeties over the top. When Wilson and Cromartie flop on the ground like fish out of water the Safety has to be there to at least attempt to clean up the mess. Him being slower than DeVito doesn't help either.

They call the position 'safety' for specific reasons. The fault of Wilson and Cromartie have been acknowledged.

But Smith not closing that deal is unforgivable.

+1 but I give a lot of that blame on Cromartie since he absolutely looked foolish on that play and I've seen him fall down on way too many plays AND it was his assignment in the first place. Granted Wilson failed as well but IMO Wilson has played outstanding this season in the slot and we all know Smith has physical limitations.
