It would definitely solve part of our OLB problems if he can become an every down player. He can become a double digit sack guy a season and we might not need to draft an OLB or go after one in Free Agency if he can become an every down player. Will he put on some weight in the offseason? Is he good enough against the run? What do you guys think?

He needs to get bigger and work hard in the offseason on his technique. He doesnt seem to have the best football IQ and unless he is given all day by our coverage he is not getting any pressure.

ATM no... going forward who knows. I'd say no though. He's a valuable passrushing specialist, let him do what he's good at.

No. He's a solid role player who has been useful as a pass rusher and shown potential, but there's no way we can trust him in an every down role going forward.

If he ends up becoming a good enough pass rusher to become an every down player, that would be awesome, and exactly what we need. I don't think he'll ever be big enough to be a great run stopper.

He has the ability to be an every down LB I expect him to be starting by 2013.

    Not right now.

His improvement over the last few months has impressed me a lot so I won't rule out the possibility that he goes at the weight room like a fiend all offseason and comes back next year big enough to take on blockers in the run game but I doubt it will happen that quickly, if ever.

Maybin is an athletic freak. If he could play the same way, with the same burst, at twenty pounds heavier, he'd be a force.

he should play more next season. The Jets will boost him up a little this offseason for sure.

i think it's a moot point-- he's likely cheap enough and enough value to keep on the team as OLB pass rushing depth, and STs. A true all-around OLB is still needed. Pass rush is a liability right now but an even bigger liability is OLB coverage of RBs and TEs.

Watch Maybin. He's easier to see about 42 sec in on the replay:

No, he is probably not. But I bet he would be an amazing role player to back up a real pass rusher.

    If only we had one...

Maybin was the only one to get near Manning on that play ...

He's fine in his current role. He'll get run all over if he's in a base 3-4 on first down.

Right now he is a very one dementional player who has a role as a situational pass rusher and special teams cover guy. As a speed rusher he can be blocked by most competent OTs, but where he has some value is if they can match him up on RBs or slow TEs. He also has value as the kind of pass rusher who is fast enough that when they get run by the QB, they can still get a sack when the QB holds on to the ball too long. He a good coverage sack rusher.

Bottom line - since he cost you little in either cap space or salary. He's an excellent pick up with upside down the road
