Hey Santa, can we get Peyton Manning?

    after reading this article-----

    http://www.nfl.com/news/story/09000...dly-unsure-if-franchise-qb-is-on-their-roster

----and watching another putrid offensive performance by "the sanchize" don't count out mr.t and woody concocting a plan to snare peyton manning if the colts draft andrew luck.

we know rex idolizes the man.

and if the giants advance to the playoffs and do well, then the jets will need to overcome that. the only way to "be on top" again will be to have this incredible off-season signing.

hey, whoever thought we'd sig brett favre?.... is this a fantasy??? not so sure.

I don't think it will happen. If we were only a QB away from being world beaters maybe, but we have more needs than the QB position and trading up has left us with no depth we can't sustain any injuries at all right now.

    This.

The Jets have too many holes right now. They need O-line help, receiver help, safety help, and LB help to name a few. No QB is stepping in next year and even getting the Jets to a division title, no less a SB.

That may be true, there are a lot of holes that we need to fill on this team.

However, look at the success of the Colts and Patriots the last 10+ years with Manning and Brady under center. Those teams had weaknesses and holes to fill as well, and in some years, serious glaring holes. Just look at the Patriots pass defense this year, they are an absolute mess. But guess what? Odds are they will be the #1 seed in the AFC, again.

This team needs a lot of help. We need more speed on defense, we need true pass rushing d-lineman, we need safeties, we need a RT, I could go on. Nonetheless, if you were to put Peyton Manning on this team right now, without changing a thing (and of course there will be changes to improve those positions), it would still raise this team to a whole new level. This year we will finish 9-7 or 8-8. If hypothetically we had Manning at QB for this season, no way we win less than 12 games.

I'm all for it, go get 'em Tanny.

    ^^ this

it will never happen but looking at the pats and the Colts its clear that if you have an elite QB you can get away with a hell of a lot with the rest of your team. if we had a top 5 QB on our roster we would almost certainly have won a SB over the last couple of years and could well be on our way to another one this year - sadly we have mark sanchez instead.

Very likely the reason Moore was brought in was to lure Manning here if he is cut by the colts in March.

The Colts need to decide if they want to pay Manning a $28 million bonus this March. if they draft Luck Manning may not want to stay. Look at the Jets talent compared to the Colts. The Jets are stronger at every position especially OL. A healthy Manning would make Keller great, the WR's much better, the OL much better, the running game even better and the defense would be able to play wiith a lead. The jets would have a real shot at going undefeated.

The Jets are loaded at every position but QB. Manining may only be here a couple of years but the upside for tbose couple of years is tremendous. Tannenbaum is not afraid to take risks and I would gues he would go all in on Manning. remember Manning wanted to be a Jet before the 97 draft but stayed in School because Parcells would not commit to taking him. We would be a very attractive team for him with Moore, our talent level and he would get to beat Brady twice a year. Beating Brady twice a year would afford him the oppurtunity to show everyone that he is the better QB. Not to mention he would get to be in the same city with Eli. It is a very good fit for Manning.

The downside to Manning is affording his contract and the new contract for Revis. The money could be deferred and pushed out through signing bonuses but eventually it might mean cap hell similar to what Parcells/Tanny did during the Parcells years. Which resulted in us having to decimate the roster prior to the 2002 season and then essentially remain in cap hell for 4 years pushing the money out each year until a new CBA gave us relief in 2006.

Peyton Manning is old, expensive, and coming off a big injury. It would be insane to set us back like that unless we were a lock to win it all with a better QB.

Either get manning or trade our whole future for luck. Would a 1st round pick in 2011 and 2012 and 2 second round picks get Luck if Colts decide to keep Manning?

Doubt full. When the Giants traded for manning they gave up the 4th pick in the draft, a 3rd round pick next years 1st pick and 5th round pick. All to move up 3 spots.

If we had the 15th pick looking at the draft chart to go from 15th to 1st to get equal value on the draft chart if we gave up all our picks the next two years and we would still be short in value. The reason being is future year picks are valued one round lower. With the new rookie wage scale top picks now are worth more in value as they cost half in salary cap of what they were pre-cba. To bad that was not in effect when we signed Sanchez and Ghoulston. Luck being one of the most highly coveted picks in quite awhile he might be worth in even more. He is simply to expensive and likely way beyond our reach.

Talent-wise in terms of offense, Jets Offense is a lot more talented than Colts offense except at QB. If Manning does come here, Jets can use all top 4 picks on defense and the offense will still function with authority. (It will help the defense a lot too.)

If Manning does come here, I suspect Patrick Turner will emerge as his favorite target. (That's his favorite type of receiver, it seems - WR with good height - 6'0 or better - with good speed. Everything else, Manning can teach and handle.) If Braylon is brought in, then Jets are set at WR (Turner/Braylon/Holmes/Kerley). Instead, if there is one guy that needs to go, that would be Holmes or Kerley (he is not a sure-handed WR that Reggie Wayne is - and Kerley and Holmes will both be splitting the slot WR duty.) Keller will be resigned and will start being a black Dallas Clark for Manning - so that's one problem down. OL-wise, the only position Colts can have some say is the C position (Jeff Saturday). Other than that, Jets OL is much better (maybe not Hunter, but then free agent RT should be available too.)

why would a hall of fame QB coming off neck surgery play behind our OL? He's not an idiot.

Idiocy. This team obviously needs a RT, 2 safeties, an OLB with speed who can seal the edge on running plays, a WR with speed to spread out the defense, a blocking TE, OL depth, 2 new kickers (both were awful yesterday).

So let's go out and spend $28 million against the cap for a 37 year old QB coming off neck spinal fusion surgery and not leave any money to fix the dozen other problems that became obvious this year. And then when Manning proves he doesn't have anything left, the OL continues to deteriorate, the defense ages, and Sanchez is the QB of a team like Washington or Miami, where does that leave the franchise??? Back to the mid - 90s, that is where.

Are you comparing Peyton Manning to Boomer Esiason and Neil O'Donnell?

A team without holes doesn't exist in the NFL.

The salary cap just doesn't allow you to have an average-or-better player at every position.

We have a significantly more talented team than the Indianapolis Colts.

All depends how much he costs. If he costs a first rounder, I would say no, too much risk. Anything less and its worth taking a look at, especially if there is any trade market for Sanchez. I think Mark would have value, but if we started shopping him, it would hurt it because teams would wonder why we were giving up on him so soon.

I doubt we end up getting Peyton, but it is fun to think about. If he's still the old Peyton, we are automatically legitimate SB contenders, much moreso than with Sanchez. If they really don't think Mark can be the guy long-term, its a good idea. I think its too soon to judge his long-term prospects, but I don't see him at practice every day. If he practices like he plays, then that is not a good sign
