Dude, you're way off. Sanchez was 18 for 28 in the first half. After hitting Keller in the face mask, the earhole, and the hands. that should have been 75%. mark ain't the problem. oc,rt, and underperforming te and wr (though part of that is play design, lack of touches) are the problem
Fellas...no point in arguing who blew this game. The whole team sucks. Top to bottom.* *except Revis.
The play calling and play design just absolutely sucks. Does anybody see the pass patterns the receivers are running. There must have been 10 passes today thrown to receivers or backs who were running 1-2 yard outs where the pass is thrown over their heads towards the sideline. What is that play designed to accomplish? What is the best result that can happen with a pass like that? A two yard gain? Schotty's system just plain sucks. No judgement can be made on Sanchez until he gets to play with another OC. And the OL sucks also. We all know that Sanchez is not Rodgers, but he has been beaten to a pulp this year and today was no different. The reason there are no long passes is because there are 1-2 linemen who can't sustain a pass block long enough for the long pass to develop. And two reverses? Why? This game was lost on the series when the Jets had the ball on the 50 with 5 minutes left and ran an offense like they had 50 seconds left. A nice sustained drive with some running plays runs the clock down (the Giants had 1 TO left) and potentially wins the game. Instead, it's pass, pass, pass, punt. I am so tired of the Jets averaging close to 5 yards a carry under Schotty with a run/pass ratio that is pass heavy. It makes no sense. Greene was gaining 5-6 a carry in the 2nd half, but instead we get 31 passes and about 36 attempts when you throw in the sacks.
Exactly You're saying you don't ever see jets fans saying that they should let Sanchez take more shots down field?
Well said bro, and after all this the guy got an extension. Look at Tebow, who is a rb who throw on occasion, what does his OC do? Create an offense to make use of his skills. Everything get stale and old after a while Shotty's playcalling is no different.
Just remember: a Jets offense that does well running the ball does nothing for Schotty's resume - nothing at all. So much of the pain we've gone through on offense over the last 6 years has to do with the offense carrying the dual load of not only doing well but also doing well in a way that they are not suited to play. The playoff runs in 2009 and 2010 gave us the clear pattern for how this offense worked the best: run the ball, use the run to set up play-action, run some more. The problem is that the hyper-efficiency of that offensive set up in terms of ball control is offset by the fact that defensive failures become magnified since any kind of real deficit forces the Jets out of their optimal game plan. This season the optimal setup was never available because the offensive line wasn't good enough to run it and so we have shifted back and forth in a bewildering maze of schemes that look nothing like each other from week to week. Not surprisingly every player on the offense has had times this year when they looked terrible because when you're jekyll and hyding the scheme all the time the players are really likely to be having consistency issues too.
I could be wrong but i think Greene was hobbled from the previous drive (limped off on 3rd down) so that could of affected the pass happy playcalling right at that moment.
"Taking more shots downfield" does not equate to Throwing 60+ passes in a game. The fact is many of us have said we have to stretch the field. A few fly patterns a game to open some space but Shotty refuses to do it and has 3 receivers at a time running patterns withing 10 yards.
Peyton Manning's highest number of pass attempts in one game was 57 vs the shitty texans in 2010. He was sacked twice, so he dropped back a total of 59 times. This is the long as fuck career of Peyton Manning. His record was set when he 34 and coming off an NFL MVP season. WHY THE FUCK would Schotty have Mark Sanchez in his 3rd year, attempt something Peyton Manning hasnt even done with a shit line like we have and the pass rush the giants have. Something just doesnt make sense. Hey REX. WTF happened to ground and pound.
Throw the ball down field to who exactly? Plaxico? He takes forever to even get off the line and he's slow, and Santonio Holmes lacks elite speed and doesn't get separation. Then there is the offensive line, who couldn't block if their lives depended on it. It's so funny that whenever they show the whole field to where we can see what's going on with the receivers, they are never open. Blame the routes, blame the play calling, blame the receivers, it doesn't matter. These dudes just aren't getting open. We need to work McKnight and Kerley into the downfield passing game more.
Exactly, I couldn't believe it when it happened. When they took the punt back to the 50, I thought for sure they were going in for a go ahead TD. I even said I'm glad they have enough time to run the ball and eat the clock. I could not believe the 1st down pass, which of course, set the stage for the next two incompletions
If you seen the game you would understand why he had 60 attempts. They were down 20-7 in the 4th quarter so running the ball in that situation made no sense.
18 throws to Keller...9 to the next guy down the list. Really? REALLY? 4th and two, no backs and a 25 yard pass into triple coverage. Why
But with the ball, 3 time outs with 5:48 at 50 yard line? Running the ball makes no sense there too? How? Why? Care to enlighten me? How do you plan to do so anyway?
I'm not defending that either, because I was watching the game and asking why were they throwing on 1st down. I understood that they wanted to exploit the giants secondary, but at that moment they should have ran the ball. What also got to me was that we didn't even sell the idea of a run. They had Sanchez in the shotgun damn near all game.
Nothing this guy does makes sense. There was a sequence in the first half that had me screaming at the television ... up 7-3 with 5 minutes left we have the ball at midfield after a big return by Kerley. Perfect opportunity to go up 14-3 at the half. LT gets 6 through a GAPING hole on first down ... and then on 2nd and 4 from the Giant 44 he calls an idiotic end around that loses 2 yards. Why are we getting cute there?? just line up and run the fucking ball!! 3rd and 6 turns into 3rd and 11 after a false start. We end up punting, and three plays later Cruz goes for 99 yards and we trail 10-7. just another small example of why I can't take anymore of this.
So you have an option of: 1. Gigantic vagina right up the gut 2. Suspect Secondary that's tightened up during 2nd half. What do you attack first? Schottenheimer says #2
Agreed with the general consensus that Schottenheimer is an idiot for not trying to run more, and not enough screen plus play-action. Sanchez is a PA passer, I cringe when I see an empty backfield.
great post, and just to add a little more perspective ... Drew Bree's threw 38 passes against the Giants. Aaron Rodgers threw 48. Tom Brady threw 49. Mark Sanchez threw 59.
