Am I in Jets homer bizarro world or do you guys actually think the Jets played well in the second game against New England?
i'll tell you why the jets are 8-6 and don't have a better record, the team clearly misses the performances of Braylon Edwards, Cotch, Brad Smith, they lost some very good players that meshed very well together last year. I don't understand why they fucked so much with the team they had last year. I know you can't keep everyone on the roster but those 3 guys were difference makers, and the absence of them has shown itself in full view as we head into the must of all must wins against the much hated Giants.
Actually in the very start of the 4th quarter plaxico scored a td and the game was 23 - 16 It was an one possession game, so yeah, both games against the pats were close in the 4th quarter
it was a late blowut, like our blowout vs. Washington. We were very much in that game in the 4th qtr. Didn't play well but the other poster mentioned how we can't han w/ elite teams and having a chance in the 4th qtr of both NE games means we hung w/ them.
But that wasn't the original argument. Junc said that they hung with the Pats in both games. With 8 minutes to go in the game the Jets were down a score. That seems to me that they "hung with them". Do you not think Skins hung with the Jets 3 weeks ago?
precisely _____________________________________ Actually, reviewing that pats game you can spot a lot of similarities with last week's disaster I mean, in the very start of the third quarter, our D holds tom brady, everyone's like "all right here we go! time to win this bitch!" and Mcknight fumbles the punt creating a mood killer turnover Also sanchez first interception on that game was also a tip, by greene who could not get a hold of the ball even though it went right in his chest
It isn't really comparable considering the Redskins are a bad football team. Hanging around doesn't mean anything...its a 4 quarter game. The Jets have been "hanging around" for 40 years. Where has that gotten them? Just because they're down 7 points in the 4th quarter to Brady doesn't equate a moral victory. The defense then proceeded to get pummeled and then Sanchez throws an idiotic interception. Bbbbut it was close with 8 minutes left! Who cares? You could make the argument that the first game was us playing tight...but even then our defense couldn't get off the field.
You're right. All final scores are created equally. No circumstances of the actual events that preceded them should be discussed as they are inconsequential.
The Giants blew the Packer game, we hung w/ the Pats and they took control late. We had many chances in thos games.
The knee jerk reactions here are insane. Last week the Jets were the best team ever, this week they suck. Sanchez does not suck, Greene has been running the ball extremely well, Keller doesn't get enough targets and well Eric Smith does suck, I'll give you that.
I disagree. This season has done a really good job of exposing every single one of our weaknesses as a team. Preparation. Mistakes. Lack of depth. Aging veterans who will soon be leaving us. Bad management of draft picks. Lack of talent development. Bad offensive coordinator Unreliable QB (likely tied to above) Defensive schemes without the talent to support them Injuries Bad offensive line (partially due to OC) The list goes on. Instead of resting on our laurels the team needs to start working on correcting these issues instead of being so apathetic.
If the Jets were 4-12 last year, we would all be happy to be at 8-6. But after two Champ Game appearances, the expectations were high this year. The Jets are at real risk of not making the playoffs at all, so that is a drop off for sure. Why wouldn't fans be upset? To answer the OP, yeah it could be worse, and I don't agree with maybe half the purported negatives. But there are real problems with this team. Perhaps the most troubling, since it seems to indicate a team wide problem, not something we can hang on any single player, is how the Jets seem to have these unravelling games. Go back to the 45-3 game against NE last year, I count four of them. Then there was the Champ Game against Pitt, the Ravens game earlier this season, and now the Eagles game. These were not mere losses. These were embarassments, where the team found itself in a downward spiral, and nothing could be done. The loss to Pitt was probably the least severe of these, since the Jets did make an attempt to get back in the game in the second half, but as a practical matter, being honest, that game was over before halftime. How come the Jets have games like that? It is a real concern.
I agree. There's no question that this team, regardless of whatever BS spin Rex wants to throw out there, is significantly worse than the team that the Jets fielded last year. Our OL, WRs, and defensive backfield have all taken a step back. And really, one of the most underdiscussed losses to the Jet roster was Dwight Lowery. Is there any question that Lowery would be starting over Smith if he were on the roster right now?
Is it mediocrity or is that 80% of the NFL? The league is designed to be this way with a few exceptions, the problem for us is one of the exceptions has been in our division for the past 11 seasons. Anywhere else except the NFC North and we're fighting for the division and a home playoff game.
