No tackles? I wasn't able to watch the game closely yesterday. Did he even get close to Vick? It's very disappointing that the guy could disappear for a whole game.
Because Maybin isn't that great a pass rusher. And unfortunately, he might be our best one. And flopping around in the backfield doesn't work against a running QB like Vick, who is even more athletic than Maybin.
Go back and watch the Vick 11 yard TD run. The Jets line up with 3 down lineman: Maybin playing RDE, Wilerson at NT, and I think it was Dixon or Devito at LDE. Wilson is in the slot, lined up where an OLB would be faking a blitz. Maybin stunts to the inside -- the problem is that he looks like he was responsible for outside contain on the play. Wilson dropped into coverage as did Cromartie. This was either the worst defense design ever -- no OLB responsible for contain to Vick's strong side -- or Maybin blew his assignment and cost them a TD.
both the tackles got on his inside and pushed him and all Vick had to do was step up and maybin was like 10 yards back.
Maybin was running about 20 yards up field then trying to catch Vick on the backside.....Vick wasn't hanging around like a slower quarterback might.....look at some of the replays...Maybin takes the tackle out of camera view on just about every rush!
Yeah I saw this. Maybin was running straight up field like 10 yards and then trying to come back around.
Maybin should be a lot better matchup vs a less mobile QB like Eli who might stay in the pocket looking for a big play. Maybin has a great motor, but he doesn't have great technique, and if you're taken out of the play, Vick will kill you. Against Eli, he won't run and take advantage of you being out of position, so I hope he can make a big play or 2.
Thanks for all the responses. It's very disappointing that he wasn't effective yesterday against Vick.
he's hardly alone. the entire defense was out-to-lunch yesterday, especially against john mackey, opps, i mean brent celak.
Does anyone know how many snaps he played? I didn't notice him very often but maybe I just wasn't paying attention - that game was really difficult to watch. When I did notice him he was generally taken out of the play (or taking himself out of the play). I was pretty disappointed that his speed didn't turn out to be an advantage this time around.
I'd like to go back and review his performance against the Eagles, I just don't think I'll be able to. I noticed a few times he seemed to be doing what the rest of our d-linemen were doing which was to get into the o-lineman and hold his ground seemingly to maintain 2 gaps and contain vick. I also noticed him fly around the edge on his infamous around the world rush once. Maybe I'll have time early next week but I doubt it ...
