I don't care what he says in public or private to the players at this point. He needs to start chewing out coaches and Tanny. Act like it's your damn team! You're not a coordinator anymore. Act like you have some say-so.
The only problem I have with Rex is he is to loyal to players, Many Coaches would have benched Sanchez, Holmes,Cromartie, Braylon Edwards(last year for more then 1 quarter), etc. He always sticks with the same people no matter what and doesn't make players play for their jobs.
Prince Amukamara got burned twice in the 1st qtr. He got benched immedtiately after. Eric Smith gets burned every game....he's still a starter.
I dont remember the ex player, it was an interview on WFAN 2 months ago and the player said Rex is like Bill Parcells when the media isnt around.
Also im tired of Rex being a Media whore he thinks he is in Hollywood, shut the fuck up stop predicting superbowls and worry more about coaching your team. Your not a player your a coach so act like one.
There's a long-standing theory that disciplinarians have a very narrow window of effectiveness and that the same is true for player-friendly coaches. The disciplinarians have a short window because by the third time you have chewed someone out they have started to tune you out. They know they made the mistake on the field and they know they're going to get yelled at and the whole point of the yelling is diminished. The friendly guys just keep building people up, but again by about the third time somebody has been let off the hook for a mistake they know they made the effect is diminished. They know they screwed up on the field and they expect to get let off the hook and the whole point of doing that (guilt) is diminished. The way to go for a coach is to be unpredictable and keep people on their toes. You get twice the mileage if you chew somebody out one time and let them off the hook the next. They never know what is coming and so they're always looking to avoid the confrontation at all costs (like playing better.) Really good coaches figure out what makes each player play better and do different things depending on who they are dealing with. Some guys pick their play up after a poor series when they are in the doghouse (screaming), others rebound when they are left alone (guilt).
Yeah, who the hell does he think he is with his post-game press conferences? If only he took your advice, then he'd have multiple Super Bowl wins like the other 31 head coaches in the NFL.
Hold on, so Rex takes the Jets out of perpetual suckitude to 2 consecutive AFC championships and higher popularity than the Giants, and he has to answer to Coughlin? That's bullshit, Rex will get his super bowl eventually but what he's accomplished so far is absolutely exceptional
No ring dude. And for the record, the Jets had been out of the perpetual sucktitude long before Rex......Parcells go tthe out of that. And they made the playoffs pretty often throughout the 2000's. Twice Rex put out slightly above average teams his first two years and had two great plaoff wins both years folllowed by disasterous championship games. I dont care. Get a ring r he needs to shut his mouth.
Really, you'd rather have a guy like Mangini? New York is a media town. Everyone and thier brother wants a second of his time and for once we have a guy thats not only a good football mind but adept at dealing with the NY media.
Who gives a crap what he says in his post-game press conference? You think that will make the team play better? Rex has guided our team to two AFC Championship games and is on the brink of another playoff berth. He deserves our respect and gratitude and frankly, he has earned the right to do whatever the Hell he wants when it comes to coaching this team.
There is such a short turn around to these games. There getting ready for the Giants today. If you sit there dwell on the loss you can't focus on the next game. Its no different then a pitcher you got to have a short memory. I also love the randomly benching people suggestion. Lol lets bench Sanchez for Mark Brunnel...or lets bench Eric Smith for the guy we just picked up off waivers...
Before Rex, the Jets/Titans had made it to the conference championship 3 times in 48 years (since 1960, counting '68). He's done it 2 times in 2 years and unlike many people like to think, this season isn't over yet.
Here's my Monday vent on the subject of Rex Ryan - a guy who I absolutely, positively believe is the best coach for the New York Jets: sometimes you need to shut up. So, today, after a galling loss to the Eagles, he makes the statement, "I recognize that they’re an excellent football team, but I think we’re better." Fine. I think so too. But that's why the NFL scheduled a motherfucking game this week - to find that out for sure. The chest thumping can be fun. After a 49-19 loss, it's tiresome.
I believe what Devito was talking about was a post game speech in the locker room to the entire team, which is not what people are talking about when they say 'behind closed doors.' That doesn't confirm anything.
