Listen we are constantly calling out Schotty and Sanchez and now I'm hearing rumblings of Pettine being questioned but when does the fact that this team seems unprepared to play in too many HUGH games start to fall on Rex? That lard ass big mouth needs to fucking stop sucking his players dicks and start to get tough on these underachieving assholes!
In no particular order: 1) No team speed on defense, epitomized by the great E. Smith 2) Wayne hunter 3) no answer for McCoy, inability to get Vick on the ground (see #1) 3) all the costly turnovers 4) ducasse sucking at every opportunity 5) penalties, especially false starts in the red zone 6) Brian "slants all day" schottenheimer
I think if Holmes doesn't start the game off like dog shit we have a fair shot. We got derailed from our gameplan by being down so early. If we would have came out strong running the ball we could have won handily. The beginning of the game was key for both teams and in that area we totally shit the bed, so its no surprise we got our asses kicked. Its disappointing but there wasn't nothing that really jumped out at me today, no surprises, just shitty football.
Jets still control thier own destiny, that is a miracle. Giants game should be a test. Now just hope the Chargers win and it will be a perfect weekend.
Yeah, unfortunately it is. We've all gotten kind of tired of hearing the endless stream of promotional verbiage (abbreviated BS under other circumstances) coming out of Rex's mouth. Imagine how the players who have been listening to it in the locker room feel? Getting your players amped up for a game is great, and Rex definitely has changed the culture around the Jets. The problem is when you hit bumps in the road all of that talking can begin to get really grating. I could easily see players tuning a lot of it out at this point.
You really can't say that Edwards' season with the Jets would have turned out exactly like his season with the 49'ers. The possibilities of how his future would have unfolded here in NY are countless in that he just as easily could have improved here and NOT have gotten injured. Edwards' problem here was that he couldn't handle the nightlife, not the game. Secondly, he actually wanted to be here unlike a particular FA the Jets chased until the Eagles signed him. I also disagree that WR isn't a problem. We don't have anyone to stretch the field. Burress and Keller sometimes vanish for long stretches. Holmes, when he can get open, seems to lose focus on occasion and every now and then, does something juvenile like perhaps the wing flapping nonsense that cost the Jets 15yds. This team has so many holes to fill that I don't think one offseason is enough time to do it. We may be looking at 2013 until this team truly is ready to make a real SB run.
I consider myself a fan and supporter of Ryan. Yes, he risks looking foolish with pre-season SB predictions. But the reality is he has the team playing better overall than the Jets have been in quite some time. I also don't think it is only talk from Ryan that is the problem. While I do think the Jet roster at certain key places is weak, there do seem to be three areas where the Jet CS is at fault, and that ultimately has to be laid on Rex. They are: 1. Ongoing Problems that the CS seems to have No Answers for. These include the inability to cover decent pass catching TE's. Celek yesterday had 156 yards. That is the most for an Eagle TE since 1965. And the Jets are supposed to have a great, even very good D? I didn't see that yesterday. And don't tell me this is all Eric Smith's fault, either. The Jets can't seem to come up with any scheme to cover those TE's. The second huge problem is one I had hoped was being improved upon, and that is covering for Hunter's weakness. Again, the Jets CS seemed to have nothing, no plan, no approach, to help Hunter out. This probably goes mostly on Callahan, but also Schotty and, yes, Ryan. 2. Questionable Personnel Moves. I know Tanny has his supporters here, and he has had his victories, to be sure. But there are several glaring problems with the roster, and the CS shares the blame for that. Here the issues relate directly to the problems indentified above. Lack of speed at LB, and, other than Cro and Revis, overall in the D. Too much dependence on Mangold and Ferguson on the O, while the Jets gambled on Hunter while Slauson is still mediocre, Moore is getting older, VD sucks, and they didn't replace Turner. What is the CS, what is Ryan, saying to Tanny as they look at this roster in the off season? Add the disappointment that is Burress and how Mason was certainly not an answer at #3 wideout, how Conley is a downgrade from Weatherford, how expecting Leonhard to last a full season worked out, how the Jets have no real backup Qb, add your own to the list, and I don't see the CS working effectively with the GM on the roster. 3. Mistakes. The dynamic here is complex, because in most instances mistakes are due to poor execution by the players. But... when the frequency is too great, is worse than average, you have to question the role of the CS. Bone headed throws by the Qb, poor ball protection by the skill position players, stupid penalties, apparent lack of adequate preparation, they all add up - this is quite simply not a disciplined team. As others have pointed out, Ryan does not seem to put players in the dog house as quickly as some other HC's might. I know he thinks he is loyal to his players, and they return the favor with loyalty to him. I didn't see much of returning the favor to Ryan by the players yesterday. Overall, I still am generally in Ryan's quarter. But he's not perfect, and if he fails to address all three of these areas, the Jets will not be going anywhere, this year or in the foreseeable future.
As time goes on BB, Rex will become a more polished HC. He might not hit his stride here in NY, but one day he will. Right now, he's only a 3rd year HC and even though he's been in the league for decades, he's only been a HC for 3years. He's still has a learning curve and that might explain the stubborn refusal to bench players for lack of production or dumb penalties. Fumbles will get you benched but dumb penalites and countless sacks won't? How the hell does that work? Holmes should have been benched. Hunter should have been benched. There are times when Sanchez needs his golden ass benched too or at the very least, yelled at publically. Rex will learn these things eventually. Its gonna take time though and at some point, the clock will start to run on Rex's tenure here to back up the talk with the walk.
Well, I get your point, but benching Hunter? With this roster? Who would they put in there, VD??? Hunter may suck, but the level of suckage that is VD is far greater, a whole different league, than Hunter. I think I would have benched Holmes after the unsportsmanlike conduct penalty, though. And benching Sanchez points out another roster problem. Brunell should not be the #2 Qb. But on the rest of it, I agree with you. I think no matter what happens the rest of this waning season, Ryan has to start fresh in the off season by working more effectively on personnel issues with Tanny. That situation just is not an effective one this year.
I hate to say it, but it's difficult for fat people to preach discipline and consistency. It just is. I know whenever I've had a fat boss, I never listened to a word he said because in the back of my mind I was always thinking, "You can't even control yourself, you fat slob, why should I listen to you?" Unfair? Maybe. But that's just the way life is. When your head coach's most famous quote in life is "Let's go get a goddamn snack", you know you're not going to have a consistent, discilplined, focused football team. There are going to weeks where they just take the week off and hit the proverbial cookie jar. Obesity is a sign of lazyness and an inability to handle stressful situations without turning to food for comfort. Who was the last really fat coach to win a Superbowl? John Madden? That's ONE fat coach in 40 years! And, he wasn't even that fat back then. I'm not saying Rex Ryan CAN'T win a Superbowl, I'm just saying he probably won't.
We just really aren't good. Period. You can't even say we're underachieving. Bottom line is, before we had the talent and defensive scheme to cover up the fact that our safeties and O-Coordinator are among the league's worst. Now, we are a middle of the pack team and those guys foolishness are magnified. I'm just looking forward to this off season. I want to see whether Rex and Tanny are going to continue to be loyal to losers or will they bring in ppl that put them in the best position to win. I've defended Rex and I love my Jets but if he continues to put the same guys out there, then he's clearly showing he'd rather be loyal to friends that do his job.
Sorry, I don't buy this part. Bill Parcells got the Jets to 12 wins two seasons after 1-15. Herm Edwards got them to 10 wins twice. Eric Mangini got them to 10 wins after 4-12. Rex Ryan inherited a team that had just gone 9-7 and took them to 9-7. They won 11 games last year and are probably headed for 9 this year. He hasn't done anything special with the talent he was handed other than get on a run at the end of the season each year before his defense collapsed in the AFC Championship game each time. Is he a good coach? Yeah he's a good coach, but the notion that he's doing really well with what he was handed is just malarkey.
speaking of parcells, there was a fat coach who won a superbowl. mike holmgren was no miranda kerr either.
It should be obvious I am talking about having gotten the Jets to two Champ Games in a row. Lemme see, the last time that happened was.... Uh never.
