ScotsJet has is right on the money. I guess my explanation wasn't good, but what Im saying was that if we are to spend $91 mil this year, then we have the luxury to spend $109 mil next. The difference from our this years cap to next years cap is $18mil.
Santonio and Plaxico are exactly what Rex wants to bring in, and they are comparable to Sanchez. Big time pressure players who come up in big moments. You can argue that they are not elite, but not that the philosophy is wrong. AFCC 2 years running. Pressure players may not win you a fantasy championship, but they will win you Super Bowls. Both Burress and Holmes have proven that.
Tanny is saving money this year in what was a poor FA pool and will upgrade next year with this years savings, his ability to manipulate the cap is why this franchise will never mortgage the future as so many like to spout about our fa and draft philosophy
I'm really not sure how all this rollover talk works. I doubt that anyone who hasn't read the final CBA really does either. I haven't seen it explained well, though many have speculated. However your explanation seems to make a lot of sense, if that is how it actually works. I also appreciate that you are one of the few Jet fans who understands that the Jets FO has in the past back dated contracts to the point where most of whatever cap space the Jets seem to have will be taken by increases in cap cost to players like Sanchez, Holmes, Cro, etc What I DO know is that starting in the 2014 season, each team will have approximately an additional $17MM in cap space because of the new CBA. Simply its been reported that the new deal is going to bring an additional Billion dollars in revenue to the teams. 55% of that money goes to the players. Divide $550MM by 32 and it will come out to just over $17MM per team. The cap space now will remain about the same the next 2 seasons, and teams that are close to the edge now will create space by moving cap costs into the 2014 season and beyond. So if what you say is true and most of the cap space the Jets have will be taken by the increased cap cost coming due next season, the Jets SHOULD be able to create enough space with a series of restructures to be able to have SOME flexibility in the 2012 FA period I'm willing to bet that when the details of Mayo's new extension comes out the bulk of the cap cost will be deferred to the 2014 season and beyond. I wouldn't be surprised to see a Brady restructure to reflect that reality. And when Welker's new contract is revealed, we see that kind of structure implemented.
That's NOT happening. Didn't you read Jets n Boys post. Most of the "supposed" $18MM in cap space is going to be eaten up by increases in cap costs to the likes of Sanchez, Holmes, Cro, Pace, Scott, etc, The only way for the Jets to get one of the "impact" FAs due on the Market will be for them to cut Pace, Scott, Thomas, etc. And if you do that, the savings will be eaten up just to replace them. The Jets will have "some" room in FA next season, but the only way a "big FA is coming to town" will be to replace one of your big FA's who is leaving town.
hey ken how are things going? oh BTW as part of my charitable joyous holiday season preparations, I am officially releasing you from the $1000 bet you lost to me last season regarding Matt Hoyer Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to you and yours
I couldn't possibly agree more. As a Pats fan, I want Rex and Tanny to continue to bring in more selfish, whinny, malcontents who are with you win or tie. If that's the case I will NEVER have to worry about the Pats losing its hold on the AFCE crown to the NJ Jets.
seriously Ken --- your quarterback (and one man team) will be 35 years old next year. 35 year old immobile statues like him are ripe for injury. Look for this to be your last division championship for probably a decade or more considering the abject lack of talent Smartypants the Draft Guru has brought in since 2006. Next years standings Jets Bills Patriots Dolphins and after that, third place will be the Patriots best finish for years
SG, I see that you are still posting the same malignant pestilent disinformation over at JI. Here's hoping that the above post is the height of your disinformation here at GG. That being said, things are well with me, and I hope your family enjoys a healthy, safe, and happy holiday season
Ah, are they giving a crown now for division championships? I was wondering when they would change it from the golden beanie. Seemed antiquated for some reason. Anyway, I'm glad you agree and hope your team does too, and continues to compile the big stat non-performers that have gotten them so far in the playoffs since Saint Tyree plunged his fist into their chests and tore free their beating hearts.
Pats r not the Colts. We all said Pats r a one man team when Brady was IRd in 2007. Then Matt Cassel took over and they went 11-5, good enough to make the playoffs in about 95% of the years. Tough luck, 2007 was not the one. If they had went 5-11, then yeah, I'd call em a one man team.
C'mon SG. This is what happens when you attempt to embark on an actual football discussion. What in the last 2 years would lead anyone to believe that there will be a significant regression in Tom Brady's skills. Have you seen any lessening of his competitive fires. Are Gronk and Hernandez going to get WORSE? No, SG,. for the next 2 years AT LEAST the Pats will have the benefit of one of the top 3 QBs in the league. He will be more than adequately protected by a talented OL and offensive blocking system that, unlike the Jets, allows them to plug in, not just a back up C, or a 3rd string C, but a FOURTH string C and start him for 2 games and still get over 400 yds of offense in both games. Compare that to the Jets who lose their starting C for just 2 games and their entire OL falls apart. No, SG,, what I want to dwell on is what the Pats offense is going to look like when the defense goes from the bottom of the the league to just the middle of the pack....or better. Think about what will happen when players like Chung, Spikes, Dowling, Barrett, Pryor, Fletcher, etc get healthy, and adding 4 more players from the top 50 players in the draft, AND adding at least one FA impact DB to the secondary is going to make. We have seen how just making a few changes to a defense can transform a bottom dwelling defense like the Texans into one of the top Ds in the league. How scary will the Pats offense and Tom Brady be, if/when that comes to pass. No SG, I listened to this claim that the Pats days of dominating the division is over. Its been going on since 2003. In a year when the "one man team" didn't even play the Pats won more games than the Jets. No SG, If I were you, I would stop worrying about getting past the Pats and spend more time worrying about keeping ahead of the Dolphins and Bills.
As much as I want that, we won't be getting any home run hitters this year unless we put ourselves in a lot cap tension for 2013 after restructuring several deals. The $18 is vanished after the jumps in cap charge for Holmes, Cro, Scott and Sanchez. Six contracts have a net increase of about $24mil I believe. Sanchez's contract most likely will get restructured and a lot of his base will be cOnverted into bonus. Unless Jets release a major player, we wouldn't be signing any. The players we will pick up would be to replace our own, such as Jim. Now we might be able to add an extra coue mils to the $2mil a yr Jim signed for. We might make a push for Landry and it's still possible we keep Jim Leonard across from him as well. We need to hit on our draft picks this year and pick up some immediately producing rookies, such as an LB.
No crowns, A, just a measuring stick. There truly is only ONE crown and 31 teams ending with disappointing seasons But for what its worth, I find it kind of hypocritical that you'd berate me for mentioning "division crowns" when my team has competed SIX times for the actual CROWN, over the past 25 years, something the Jets haven't done ONCE in over 40 years. Sounds like a "pot calling kettle" scenario
what act of god is going to take place to raise the Can't Stop a Nosebleeds from the absolute BOTTOM of the NFL to mid pack?? certainly, based on 2006-2011 drafts NOT the brilliance of Billy the Draft Whiffer
All those supposed whiffs by the Pats, and all those supposed hits by the Jets, yet all you have is one significant win over the past six years. BTW I think it would be more than fair to state that Solder has been a more productive rookie than Wilkerson. That Dowling in just 2 games was more productive than Ellis has been the entire season. That BOTH Vareen and Ridley have had more productive years than Powell has. In fact, using your standard of instant gratification, the Jet have NOTHING to show for their 2011 draft but a solid run stopping DT, (who isn't any better than Brandon Deadrick has been as a 7th round pick), and a nice slot receiving prospect (who isn't any more productive than Julian Edelman was his rookie year. You and every Jet fan can lord that olayoff win over me all you like. But it can't mask the reality that with every passing game, it looks more like a fluke than a trend.
