Dishing pain doesn't make you a beast, although it is effective against defenses late in the season. Real power backs, beasts, DO maul over linebackers. If Greene is for real as a dump off man and can keep improving with his screens and blocking, he will be an effective starter, but that is the only way he will take over games, because his running ability is not strong enough on it's own. Beasts can take over a game. He really hasn't.
Greene is a complimentary back not a feature back, he is really suited to coming in as the change of pace back. I wouldn't be surprised if a rb dropped to us in R2 that we picked one as with LT prob gone and Powell showing little ability to cut we really need another presence out of the backield alongside McKnight and Greene
best running back to play for the Jets since #28 retired and up there with McNeil, Martin, Snell and Riggins for top 5 Jet running back all time
Agreed about Greene and about LT leaving, although I still don't think we have seen the last of Powell, because they saved Shonn's legs until the playoffs in 2009, Rex is very forward-thinking so that does not surprise me. Unrelated side note, after watching Schotty's presser and hearing him nonchalantly refer to "Throwing a little Ground and Pound in there," I am beginning to think that the term Ground and Pound is the name of a specific playbook that they revert to when Sanchez falters.
That's going a little too far. Greene's body of work doesn't touch theirs and he's got a long way to go before he's a special back like Curtis was.
Greene's Competition for # 5 all time: Boozer & Hector He's better than Hector but not Boozer Greene is a good late-in-the-game and late-in-the-season back where he can overpower worn down defenses Jets seem to use him well He does need a better compliment than what McKnight and Powell have shown so far
He's a good RB that at least 29 of the other 31 teams wish they had -- he's not Adrian Peterson or Arian Foster but he still was a great draft steal in the third round by Mr T
Shonn's from South Jersey, so I expect a big game from him in Philly Sunday. Maybe he was an Eagles fan as a kid. Jumping in late here, but I think his stats have regressed, but not his ability. Could it be that he needs a blocking TE? I think year two of Shonn/ John Conner, with an improved O-Line next year and we'll get a big year.
Every time he gets up from a run up the middle, I initially think he is injured. His ribs are probably still hurt, which is not surprising considering the types of hits he takes. But it is nice to have a lead blocker like Conner. And the line is definitely coming around.
People keep saying Greene isn't a "feature back". Ironically, he's at his best when he gets more touches.
"He's a good RB that at least 29 of the other 31 teams wish they had -- he's not Adrian Peterson or Arian Foster but he still was a great draft steal in the third round by Mr T" Jags wouldn't want him
