I guess that makes sense, but it's a very odd way of putting things. Really all the new rule means is that the unused cap space is rolled forward. The cap will probably be more next year anyway with the new TV contracts so how much more we can spend will also be impacted by that. $9 million is $9 million whether you spend it this year or next year.
It would make more sense if the jets were on the hook for the same amount of salary going into next year but that isn't that case.
This whole Manning Crap is so Overblown as long as Rex is our HC there will be no manning under center... Period
Good, a precursor to the move we all know we need. He needs to be cut. This bum isn't even as good as Aaron Rodgers yet.
If Sanchez hadn't taken some huge steps forward this year, I would think Manning was possible. But the season isn't over and we have much bigger needs that QB for a change.
i believe the salary cap starts directly tying to the tv contracts in 2013 ... i dont think the cap will increase much next year, if at all
You're right, Santonio is self explanatory - A #2 receiver without elite speed and who doesn't get open nearly enough. He's supposed to be our #1 guy. Plax is our #2 receiver, but he's just a possession guy/red zone threat. Those are our receivers. Just painfully average. You have two guys who only get open half the time. But you also have a Coordinator who doesn't maximize the talents of our receivers, so it looks even worse. It's an receiver corp that's almost complete, it's just missing that true #1 guy that makes everything else fall in line.
I can't help but stop laughing at this. Sounds like your more than a bit bitter about your name sake gettign dumped twice this season because that write up on Holmes is just silly.
People overrate just how good Holmes is (though a good chunk of his lack of production is on Sanchez and the scheme), but Holmes is a fantastic route runner. Nobody else on our team is that threatening, except for Plaxico in the red-zone.
If we are $9 mil below the cap this year, assuming all contracts remain at the same cap charge, we would have $18 mil to spend next year. I gave a simple example of 100 mil cap. We are at 91 mil. Again, assuming all cap charges for all players remain constant, we'll be 91 mil next year as well, while our salary cap would be $109 mil. $9mil saved this year turns in to $18 next year. Now of course cap charges increase and occasionally decrease for players, and I believe that entire $18 mil of cap space would be gone by all the heavy increases in Santonio, Cro, and most other major players contracts. This salary charge increase question on major players came up earlier in the season as well. Somebody mentioned that we have just $9 mil of space but we have increases of almost $20mil on about 6 players cap charge for the next year. That's where the $18 mil gets used up, while we restructure some deal. That is why Sanchez' $500k for 2011 salary was moved to 2013, and not 2012. Moving it to 2012 made zero sense since we would still have to count that half a mil. Tanny is preparing for 2012 off season already as he knows that he'd have some tough decisions to make in the upcoming season. I doubt if we see a blockbuster deal for us. We might pick a couple of decent players, but forget about a huge pick up in 2012, not until Pace and Scott's contracts are off the books.
